The media don't see it that way and if anything, it adds further pressure and scrutiny on Oliver because his influence is limited due to negating the opposition best mid. Having a tagger with that price tag over his head will bring that pressure on by the media which it already has.

Thanks for this and great insight into our training regime. At least this isn't the same usual stock standard report of everyone being so happy and loving at training that we usually get. The fact that we pretty much have zero structure into our goalkicking especially the basics stuff, sums it all up really. It seems our training standards have dropped significantly due to player driven of wanting more flexibility around more personal time?

I think i was one of a few who were completely gobsmacked by this selection at the time. To me this simply wasn't a standard JT style pick. He lacked the complete physical and intensity aspect of what you need as a key forward. You can get away with it at school footy level which he did, but it simply doesn't translate to AFL level. I know we needed a key forward at the time but I had preferred we just went best available instead of reaching for Jefferson who was very underwhelming for my liking. He has zero physical presence, no intensity, no defensive efforts and has the urgency of a snail. In saying that I was also a staunch supporter of Jefferson at VFL level and have even been strong on my argument that he just needed time over the lasy couple of years. This year I was hoping for a huge jump in his development but I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise Look at Logan Morris last year in his first year last year. Played all of last year as a 18 year old and kicked 24 goals in his debut year. He plays with intensity and urgency. Same as Nate Caddy. Jefferson is in his 3rd year in the system and he looks no where near it. Unfortunately I think JT has butchered this pick.

I haven't enraged once today nor have I been in any of the match day threads. Stop trying to make things up. Supporters have every right to be enraged with our start to the season. It's not how we lost but the way we lost to the likes of North, Gold Coast and Essendon. North was a diabolical loss that completely zapped every ounce of confidence from the players. I'm sure you you were right there clapping them after the game telling them how proud you were. I had us making finals but have rearranged my expectations to it being a development year to hopefully then catapult next year after another pre season into Langford, Kolt, Lindsay, Windsor, McVee etc etc.. I personally thought we had the cattle to push for a top 8 side but soon realised we simply don't and I overrated the list. Oh so now they're maybe a top 4 team? Jesus you changed your tune quick smart from being a top 6 team to being eliminated first up to now maybe a top 4 team. The great Kevin Sheedy once said that there is no such thing as an honourable loss. A loss is a loss regardless of what the margin is. If you Goodwin is telling the players after the game that we were the better team then you are kidding yourself.

Absolutely there were positives. Langford and our willingness to actually take the game on. The pressure we applied was up as well. But we lost by 35 points in the end. We weren't the better team because we lost. Anyone that says that is far too easily pleased and accepts mediocrity which you are well known around here.

I love watching Collingwood play. Key personal out and yesterday they still get the job done because others stand up as a team. Say what you want, but McRea is a brilliant coach and his numbers speakers for themselves. They're 100% premiership contenders imo.

Why would we take Tmac out of his role where he's pretty been rated one of the best defenders in the league? In fact he and Bowey have been our clear best defenders so far this year. No need to stifle that synergy. He hasn't rucked for years and won't be anytime soon.

I'm talking about Sean Darcy from Freo last year when we went into that game with Petty as our number 1 ruckman. He got badly smashed around stoppages and one on ones ruck contests. Matt Flynn is a big lad too mind you. I'm not sure why you've added Melk to this discussion? I haven't questioned him once and understand why he was brought in. After last week's effort i had Fritsch out for Melksham. You either play one or the other really. Having them both simply doesn't work anymore imo. I also don't know why we need two defensive forwards in Sparrow and Melksham?. Honestly, the whole off season change of the game plan was not too be too defensive minded and focus more on our offence and attack. Yes there is an element staying true to our defensive strength but not to the point where we've got multiple forwards having to tag away. Let them off the leash a little but show their opponent the respect when it comes into our forward line or when they have possession of the footy in our D50. If May goes out then similar to pre Freo game, Howes comes in.

I dont see those traits in Sharp at all so we'll agree to disagree. Also, this last paragraph is in my kind opinion, pretty irrelevant on any footy related discussion regardless on what level of footy I've played at. My views on footy should be seen as equal to yours and every other footy head on here Dub. I did after he laid 5 tackles and kicked 2 goals against Essendon. I thought finally he was heading on the right track until Goodwin said he needed to work on his defensive side of the game in a press game interview against Freo.. confusing, but okay.. Thats why each week selection becomes confusing. I then watch him against GWS in the VFL and he barely got out of second gear and laid 1 tackle for the whole game. You then can't tell me his selection was justified off the back of that performance compared to JVR's 5 goal effort against Richmond. Once again this also shows the complete lack of support for Max Gawn regardless of how well he's playing. Matthew Lloyd was correct last week, the fact that we are still heavily relying on a 33 year champ who's got no back up whatsoeveris a huge concern. Petty is not a ruckman at all and we saw that last year when he got absolutely monstered by Darcy, so I have no idea what plan B is when Gawn needs a spell or heavin forbid he gets injured.
