Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
dazzledavey36 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Considering they have just upgraded Turner to the senior list on a 2 year deal I would suggest that the coaching department are supremely confident he'll make it. He'll play as the 3rd tall defender next year. Bookmark it.- 174 replies

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore

You'll get a lot of haters for this post but I totally agree bar Hunter and Billings. Thought Hunter was serviceable and a much better option then Jordon who we had previous year. My biggest concern once again is that we go into another year not addressing our outside speed and skill. We have Hunter and Langdon on the wings with zero to no depth of anyone coming through and overtaking them. Langdon has been poor the past two years and whilst Hunter was okay this year, I can't see much improvement from a 29 year old mid paced wingman. The Collingwood pick up of Oleg Markov is one of the great bargain pick ups in years. Collingwood identified speed off half back and immediately saw that Markov would be suitable to at least come in and make an immediate impact. As much as I was/is a fan of Marty Hore, I really am confused by this selection. He doesn't address a glaring need at all and he's practically depth behind Turner, Tomlinson and Adams. The ruck depth is another one of our biggest concern on our list and you'd think they would have added depth in this department instead of another half back flanker. If Gawn goes down then responsibilities are left up to poor Will Varrell.- 174 replies

Charlie Constable, Aaron Clark and now Blake Schlenslog are 3 fantastic pick ups. They really lacked the height and physical size all year and o think these guys really give them some flexibility.

These highlights against senior WAFL men is seriously very impressive from the kid.

Appreciate the honest thoughts based on your own observations mate.

Strange? The club rates him purely as a rookie prospect.. not only that, he barely got enough nominations from opposition clubs to qualify for the state combine. That in itself would explain why he's rated as a rookie prospect. It's just Melbourne, bit other clubs also. I'll happily back our gun recruiting team on this one.

I like buzz and x factor Tholstrup brings. I also think he has far greater upside with enormous potential to transition into midfield role ala Petracca. Wilson is an absolute workhorse who is incredibly driven and is the ultimate professional on and off the field. He is another that will play round 1 purely because coaches will be blown away but his high work rate. He's very similar to Ollie Hollands and I think there's an element there that says there is zero depth after Hunter and Lamgdon which makes sense if we select him. I'm bias and will say Wilson, but my god I would be stoked with Tholstrup

I love him. He's an absolute brute and isn't afraid to shoe that even at senior level. Genuine x factor that I think could turn out to be a Zac Bailey type player who can really give you flashes of brilliance up forward until he builds his capacity to play more midfield minutes. Strong and powerful who's got a good penetrating kick on him.

Max Promises Tough Love this Preseason
dazzledavey36 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I still reckon David Neitz was certainly the beat I've seen in my time. For a club that went through so much off field turmoil his ability to galvanise the playing group and achieve what we did with little to zero assistance from the AFL, no training facilities and a coach that was always under internal scrutiny. I also loved how Neitz was such a fierce presence on the field and was the first to run in and stick up for teammates at all times. Him and the Ox were very similar in this approach. Any defender that sat in the hole would cop an absolute knee from a charging David Neitz and you could tell that would lift his teammates. Some would say that before that Garry Lyon was one of the best Melbourne Captain we've had since the 60's also. -

For people having a sook about Eddie McGuire, it was the Barrasi family that actually specifically requested Eddie to MC the event as he is a very close friend of Ron and the family. Regardless of what you think of Ed, respect his family wishes in all of this. It was indeed a beautiful service. -
Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore

I thought it was a harsh decision to delist Hore at the start. He's been in absolutely terrific form at VFL and his numbers are through the roof. In saying that, I would have thought a mature age ruckman would be the biggest need ahead of another half back flanker/tall defender. I hope Will Varrell is ready next year. -
And Watson

Casey have also recruited ex St Kilda Leo Connelly who was delisted this year. Played 7 games at elite level all back in 2021. Played all year in the VFL for Sandy and averaged 19 disposals playing as a half back/midfield.

Few moves happening. Unfortunately we've lost George Grey who's been a solid contributor for the last number of years. He's off to Frankston. Talented junior prospect who was incredibly unlucky to miss out in last year's AFL draft is joining Casey from Frankston. Was in the AFL Academy and played at Dandenong Stingrays as a big bodied midfielder.

Loved Jack. I backed the club in trading him out the year as I believe it was best for both clubs and turns out it's been a massive win for us. As other have said, had he been drafted 3 years back he'd be a weapon because he's exactly the kind of player we're lacking across half forward with his ball use and polish inside 50. Also, he kicked some serious clutch goals in big games mind you. For a guy that was perceived as soft he could certainly play in the big games.
