  1. Beware Witches Hats bearing 'gifts'...
  2. Now that we have 'All Of The Goals' (crikey, it's like we're in the season proper (he says, on Page 12 of the Post Game thread!) - never have we seen so much interest in practice matches!) I can see MMM let me down (surprise, surprise...) However, I think it's possible the ball bounced vertically just before the post then veered through - or at least that's what the goal umpire determined? It certainly then crossed the line, and the goal umpire gives the 3 chest taps, signalling 'Mine', which would seem to confirm that?
  3. MMM 'call' (I use the word very advisedly) seemed to say it was a downfield free for a push on Spargo after his kick. So not an issue what happened to the ball after?
  4. Bump/liable/nail/head: 🤔 Moses-like would be nice, wouldnt it, Mon! But, no, it was Brian's inspiration I was channelling.
  5. He may have been going for that best-ever, second-to-none part of speech, hyperbole, WCW?
  6. Yes, let's keep it Old Testament. The New Testament image it evokes would be troubling. (flinches, ready for The Project-iles...)
  7. I do like the unfolding deliberate development, apparently, of the midfield/forward 'waxing'(*) between Kozzy and Trac, as a logical up-shift in the team's flexibility and unpredictability and particularly for the increased engagement and centralising of Kozzy in the team and with his brother teammates. (* For you younger folk, that means a turn-for-turn sharing, not a bonding visit to a salon...)
  8. Hopefully our Sim/Practice style and wins - and personnel - will make a few more realise we've got a pretty watchable-live product!
  9. Adem Yze did the presser. Was he game day coach?
  10. L. Hunter post-match: Man of few words, and less emotion: we won't be seeing him in the Smile File, I think! But you're very welcomed, sir! p.s. (Demon Army take note, @WalkingCivilWar ) 'Grawn-dy! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 'Grawn-dy! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 'Grawn-dy! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Etc...
  11. (I very much appreciate - and feel vicarious pride - when sponsors choose us, particularly known and respected brands. So, thank you, Penfolds. However...) Is the $100/$190 'plus delivery', btw? I've found this situation - same item available cheaper elsewhere (and/or not involving delivery) - with other sponsor products, too. I feel 'doing something for members' is just seen as an obligation of sponsorship, the advertising to the wider football-watching world being the main game. Then I guess they rely on 'emotion' to move some product to members wanting to support them for their support. There's the possibility the member will then be a convert to that product, I guess (my one uptake in the emotion/conversion regard has been (lots of!) Haymes paint, getting a 5-10% discount (probably borne by the retailer...) despite not being convinced I've got a better product or, certainly, at less cost). That response isn't likely to 'hold' for wine, though; a highly discretionary, short-life spend in a hugely supplied market. Insurance or cars, on the other hand, might get more permanent member attachment? Mind you, sponsors potentially lose up to 17/18ths (soon 18/19ths?!) of the football-world market. What's everyone else's thoughts? End of my doctorate thesis.
  12. Based on my earlier - albeit somewhat circumspect and tentative! - posts, I now feel borderline entitled to attach the 'my boy...' label to Judd. I've always wanted to be a footy seer 😄 https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1276817/fitting-right-in-mcvee-s-pre-season-development
  13. Indeed. And, dare I say it, that particular thrust of this thread shrivelled to nothing at that very point...
  14. Thanks, all posters, for the updates and informed/invested commentary (I'm presuming you're all continuing to follow the thread and will see this 🙂)
  15. Good on you, Ben. Without being able to see the whole article, it seems the action is about only one (small?) aspect of gambling advertising; i.e., the use of real player images. I'd say that 'loss' to the betting 'industry' (somewhat of a green-washing label, btw...) and consequently, to the AFL, is easily made up for. Ceasing advertising altogether is far from an outcome of the players' actions. Ceasing legal gambling altogether is light years from it. Interesting observations about the US experience, @Hatchman, @La Dee-vina Comedia and @ElDiablo14. Down that path, to replace gambling advertising revenue, might we expect more artificially created breaks in our games for more advertising by alternative big-bucks advertisers - particularly by next-scourge-off-the-rank, the fast/junk food 'industry'?
  16. Yep, pretty specifically stated by Troy Chaplin in his post game (along with '60%')
  17. Some take-outs from the Troy Chaplin post-match (sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - sooo hard to keep up!) * Kossie and Trac developing a forward/on-ball rotation between them (drool...) * Max and Brodie rotating forward (as opposed to any notable backline role) '60/40 or 70/30' Max/Brodie, noting, relatively, M's goals and B's stoppage follow-up work in sim. * Going into the pocket had to some extent been for a reason (unstated...) and will continue but look to increased directness, with speed, into fwd 50, or further up the ground.
  18. Sounding promising! So is there a cliff, still, for him to fall off? - could someone remind me/us, unembellished, what his issues were?
  19. Happy for you to keep us posted, Viper! Take this - 🥈 - to apply in advance to all future postings 🙂
  20. Me, too. With a diehard MCC mate, who happily joined me high in the Southern Stand for that second half. Funny; my memory is of staring into the sun, but it seems quite dull in the footage. Davey's goal: iconic. Wonna's 'frogs' - ditto. Moloney and McLean: Petracca and Oliver on their day (too few and far between). Miller: some ripper games (ditto). The song: rousing (ditto-ditto).
  21. (Umm... Let me know if I need to apologise to anyone for that...😬)
  22. ...and the page's worth that followed... I did try. Though perhaps the prompt return to bananas was an unconscious(?) response to my 'wing and wang'?... https://www.google.com/search?q=austin+powers+giant+wang&oq=austin+powers+it's+a+giant&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0i22i30j0i22i30i625l3.22123j1j4&client=ms-android-samsung-ss&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:816693d4,vid:K1JgMxRm--0
  23. And the collar. And the woolliness. It's quite palpable, the feeling of my childhood this photo briefly gave me. 'Twinkletoes' himself (my mother's name for him), the colour and 'feel' of the jumper particularly, and the sense of the 'simple', winter VFL as was. Memory's tricks say my Gran's bulky hand-knit (envy of the possessors of the 'real'!) had a '31' on it (plastic? felt?) I certainly drew lots of action pics with my Derwent pencils of Number 31, and his teammates, flying over hapless oppositions, particularly my parents' adopted underdog Hawks in the '50s (good times!) Thanks for it all, Ron. Keep on Twinkling!
  24. Missed this. Great minds n all...
