WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
hemingway replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
Linking the name Weideman with Melbourne is a bit like linking the name Barassi with Collingwood. Polar opposites. Lets hope the Dees checked his blood type, did a genetic screen and used hypnosis or the Rorschach test to ensure that all traces of disordered black and white thinking can be removed. I have a splendid vision of a wet Grand Final against Collingwood when the Pies go in as raging favourites only to be softened up and beaten into submission by a team of Melbourne enforcers led by The Weed and Hulk Hogan. The sadistic pleasure would be something special. -
The good thing is that it tells us that Jackson wants to see it through. He has not taken the opportunity to jump ship. It tells us a lot about the man and the direction of the club. Reassuring to the club and supporters.

. Yep it was 1967 and DDDBMT were the warm up group for Eric Burden and the Animals at Festival Hall. They were disappointing and the crowd totally underwhelmed. the animals were great but played for about 50m. I was only in short pants but still have a strong memory of a disappointing night with a lifeless crowd. However my schoolmates and I thought we were pretty tough going outside to light up and travel home on a red rattler.

uhmm Middy, a wonderfully expressive and ambiguous sentence left hanging.

solid start but maintain your equanimity as time goes on and your contributions bring responses and more critical comment. Beware the end of the honeymoon. -

well done in sharing your goals without embarassment. Just don't let journalism school get in way of a creative natural writing style. Think Hemingway or closer to home Flanagan. -

Very happy to read your line about Kent. His hammy was a shocker so to read that he is up and about is great news so early in the season. -
massive confession to those old enough to to remember.....pure nostalgia. Like looking at old photos.

Time to move on. I am more interested in current and future postings about football. Most of the time posts reflect a variety of opinions that are worth reading. The Essendon drug saga was a case in point. Sure it dragged on to saturation point, but there were many well informed and intelligent views expressed on this the matter. However, material life is temporary and posters life on this site is temporary. People come and people go. However, I suspect that many lose patience and depart this site due to the ridicule and at times trivial criticisms of others. It's just a waste of time. I have never met Saty nor do I wish too. Assuming he has left this site for greener pastures its time to forget him. He seems to me just an ordinary guy who had his faults but was trying to do the right thing by posting training reports. Some liked them some didn't. . But it really is a waste of time to spend time talking about the past and dredging up the same old stuff. This is of course part of the deal with social media. If you don't like it don't use it. However, with Saty or whatever name his goes under its time to forget the past and move on. Forgive and forget.

Agree OD, absolutely done to death. There is really nothing that has not been said many times in many different ways, but is all amounts to the same thing, over and over and........

Very discrete Nut, who would that be, owner of a large shopping centre in Chadstone? Very well disguised. not even ASIO could work that out. My school never had millionaire parents let alone billionaire parents. In fact the rich kids distinguished themselves by having scalextric car sets, only one in my grade. Oh yes, one kid's parents had a swimming pool.
-
true OD thanks for your balance and common sense.

I find it hard to believe that an ex Scopus student is on this site. Would have thought they were way too smart. I thought they were all brain surgeons, rabbis, successful businessmen or checking out their next investment property.
-
Agree, he has the potential to be a great pick-up. Looking forward to seeing his attack on the ball and pace.
-
Jetta had a disappointing 2015. Whether he is a permanent player in 2016 will be a reflection and an indicator of our improvement. He has his limitations and I can't see him holding down a spot in a more offensive attacking side that starts to gets it act together.

As well as past foot problems, the name Weideman and the MFC do not go. They are polar opposites. Like linking the name Barassi or Flower with Collingwood. Call me old fashioned but any association would end badly . Important that we maintain proper standards here and give thought to the long history with our mortal enemy. Very bad karma to select Weideman..

Lots of non MFC players fall below my radar. I am amazed at all those Demonlanders who know so much stuff about players from other clubs. Hats off to you. Bugg's highlights on the MFC site are exciting. An aggressive and competitive left footer with pace and footy instincts. He looks a natural. I love the fact that we are getting players with that aggressive streak.

True indeed, however, you can be a dummy and still have common sense as well as proper standards of personal behaviour, You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know right from wrong.

I was feeling a little underwhelmed however this is against hoping for a "big fish". However, I am reassured after seeing the final wash-up. As others have commented, we have a group of blokes who show that they know what they are doing. They have the skills, know how and ability to get the best result. I have wondered about Mahoney, but this draft has shown that he is an intelligent and competent operator. He is clearly no dummy. As with other football matters this year, there are no damning media stories about us. Our guys clearly have done their homework, have a unified view and keep their cards close to their chest. What a difference from the past. Mahoney's comments in today's media reflect a realistic view of our position and what we can hope to achieve. You can see that we are slowly and surely building a list that has the potential to grow into something better. I have never felt so confident that we have a footy club that is going places. .

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY
hemingway replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes he is. My nagging concern is that Collingwood never willingly let go top players or players with the potential to become top players, but they are prepared to let go players with deficiencies. -
Our judgement call on players is usually based on potential. Many players seem to have potential but are not able to translate that into consistent good form at Casey or at AFL level. They get dropped back to Casey but are not able to dominate at that level. It is hard to justify a return to the AFL without consistent good form at VFL level or outstanding form on the training track. I reckon 5 or 6 years is long enough to gauge if a person is worth persisting with. After 5 or 6 years, the football club can hardly be said to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

You have a way with words BB. So eloquent. -
I am glad you know who he is. I did not know he had any best days or any days at all.
