Jack's back (Trengove, that is)
Bang Bang Bang replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's awesome, whoever thought of that deserves a big pat on the back. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 19
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He might be approaching 40 years of age but Boomer [censored] Harvey always has a picnic when he plays against us. Send Viney to him. -
Almost! His only saving grace was getting Howe (pick 30), TMac (pick 53) and Gawn (pick 34). He was the Mark Neeld of recruiting. Scary to think we had both working at the same time, along with Schwab as CEO and Harrington as List Manager. 4/5 of the most important people at a football club totally incompetent.
-
No we don't. That's speculation and innuendo at best. Much more likely was that all the recruiting team (including Todd Viney) felt Toumpas was a "can't miss" prospect and would compliment Viney Jnr at pick 26 better than Wines. Obviously it hasn't worked out but Neeld shouldn't get the blame for everything. It was always going to be easy for Jason Taylor to look better than Barry Prendargast, but I think he has done a really good job so far. Pretty much all his picks have been nailed or at least showed early promise.
-
He'd be a good replacement for Howe.
-
I'd say Jetta and vandenBerg are the hardest players to tackle in this team. In the modern game, that's a great skill to have. He's not the world's greatest kick but makes sensible decisions. Good player.

The optimism always returns to Demonland after a win. Carlton and one of the others would leave me content. I'd say beating the Dogs at Etihad is unlikely, they're pretty much unbeaten there this year from memory. I give us a sneaky chance against North, a tiny sneaky one against the Dockers, and likewise GWS (they seem to match up well on us and on our bogey ground). Next year will be a big test for the club. Internally, we expect to make the 8. It won't be easy to meet those expectations.

Oops. I thought he was playing today. You're right, there's no way he'll play. Just Salem for Michie will do me then.

Tom Scully & Col Sylvia - A Heartfelt Thank You
Bang Bang Bang replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hate to be a spoilsport but I think technically we got Toumpas, Dawes and Barry for Scully. We still probably won that though. Hogan was part of a shifty backroom deal that allowed us to get Viney at pick 26, but he cost us pick 3 (Toumpas was 4, the Scully pick). -
Salem and Kent in for Grimes and Michie thanks. We're nearly back to fielding our best 22 again.
-
I don't think so. Pendlebury got up and kept playing. Had he been concussed, then Jack would be looking at weeks for sure.

Turning into a gun of a footballer. I really like the unsociable side to his game - heckling Williams and Swan with a minute or so left in the game. He's really doing his bit in turning the club's 'soft' culture from earlier years around.
-
He's on track for 45 goals too. Not a bad debut season.

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Bang Bang Bang replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
2013: 2 wins 2014: 4 wins, with an average winning margin of 11 points 2015: 6 wins (already), with an average winning margin of 30 points We are improving. There will be moments of frustration (like last week) but the proof is there. Roos has made us a much better side than the Neeld era. It was never going to happen overnight, and there's still a long way before we can even talk about finals let alone a flag, but we're improving. -
Even though we were inaccurate in the last quarter, I thought we employed a deliberate and clever tactic to milk time off the clock. Jetta's charade of lining up for a goal then doing a sneaky pass to Jones was the best example of this. Vince and Garland took shots that were beyond their range in normal circumstances. We missed most of the shots but were able to lock the ball in our forward half for pretty much the whole quarter. I think the coaches should be commended for this if it was a deliberate tactic. Collingwood never looked likely.
-
I'd take him ahead of Gibbs, Kreuzer and Scully if I was starting a new club from scratch. For someone that's been maligned so much, he's actually turning into a decent player. Something has clicked.

First time we've beaten them since 2007. I enjoyed that. Watts is a beast! (And I'm only half-joking).

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Bang Bang Bang replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
He had a pretty good strike rate last year with Melbourne-related news. He was the first to tell us of Hogan's back injury, then the setback with the injury, then Mitch Clark's stunning decision to seek a trade. He's a [censored], and his 'opinion' articles are horrendous, but I don't doubt he has good sources at Melbourne. -
If we beat the pies I will ...
Bang Bang Bang replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
Then we will get thumped by North and lose to Carlton and it will be back to square one again. That would be so Melbourne. -
Essentially you hope to get a player of Prestia's quality at pick 4. He's 22 y/o so pretty much the perfect age, early development done and no guesswork with what he might become. Every draft year, some of the touted gun mids turn out good some don't. I think he's worth more than pick 4. As for Howe, the pick 6 that was touted for him last year was overs at the time and his patchy form this year has diminished his value. I would certainly test the waters with GWS before packaging him up in a Prestia trade but I'd have no problems if we have to throw him in to get Prestia. Some questions have started to emerge over Paul Roos' tactics and general performance, but one thing you can't question is how good he is in October. I expect him to improve our list massively.
-
Howe and pick 4 for Prestia and pick 37 would be a fair swap IMO.
-
Dawes should be dropped. I don't think he's under performing per se, I just don't think he's good enough. Doesn't mark well, doesn't kick many goals, and can't hit targets even when under no pressure. What exactly does he bring to the table? He does try hard and might be important to our forward structure (hard to know watching on TV), but I don't think it's enough. I'm surprised he got 17 touches, apart from that fairly simple goal on the run he kicked, I can't remember him doing anything useful yesterday.
-
Darling? I know everyone on here wanted him, especially over Lucas [censored] Cook, but I don't think BP was ever interested. Care to elaborate?

In the scheme of things it's one game of football, a few things went wrong and some horrible umpring didn't help our cause. The result has no bearing on September. However, To attract players and members over the off-season (and thus give ourselves a genuine chance to improve), we need to show marked improvement on the field. For mine, that's 7-8 wins. We can't afford to be dropping the winnable ones especially in this fashion. Therefore, we must now beat Carlton (obviously) but also *pinch* a game against one of Collingwood, Bulldogs, Giants or North. Can't see it happening. Very disappointing.

Brayshaw has been good. There's no such thing as a 50/50 contest when he's involved because he always wins it. The others sure.
