I would have thought McCartin would be a round 2-3. Talent probably places him in the 2nd, concussions and health/injury issues push him to third... For the life of me I simply do not understand the hype around Darcy Moore and would be flabbergasted if a club surrendered a first round pick for him.
-
That’s the gamble. Id say he has very little value at the moment so would rather keep him and look to build upon his potential. It comes down to whether you think he has what it takes at senior level. I think he has the makings of a decent player and could surprise a few in the next year or two. With that said, I completely understand people who aren’t convinced as he hasn’t had a great showing at senior level as yet. I doubt anyone would offer better than a third round pick.
-
IF that is the case, I doubt we’d let him go unless the trade offer was significant. His stocks are as low now as they could ever be and he’s coming to an age and size that he can start to make an impact. We’ve already invested a lot of time in him and out no 1 forward has just gone down with what is a potentially very serious injury. Contracted to the end of 2019, so I’d hope we keep him.

Agree that ANB had a shocker, but he has some credits in the bank. On the topic of ANB, he needs a big game this weekend. He routinely puts in poor performances against the better teams this year. The same could have been said about Harmes, but he’s stepped up in the second half of the year. Hopefully ANB can be next...

I said at the time that that was the best kick of his career, and I agree, it was the only time he was genuinely involved in the match for the day.
-
Of which he only had 1 inside 50, zero goal assists, 2 clearances and kicked 0.0. He does no damage at all with what little of the ball he gets.
-
Champion Data are rubbish. With that said and looking at the draw, I think we’ll fall over the line by percentage without winning another game. It’ll be absurd, and some may even say undeserving, but we’ll make it.

IN: Hibberd, Melksham, Kent OUT: Pederson, Kennedy-Harris, Spargo We’ve really missed Hibberd down back as an organiser, interceptor and reliable, cool head. Melkshams delivery inside 50, physicality, pace and accurate set shot will be essential in the next two weeks. Kent is in form and kicking goals. He has a mature body and demonstrated earlier in the season that his work-ethic is much better this year than in years gone by. Spargo has a big future at the club and I’ve seen enough to suggest he has the skills, awareness and attitude to succeed at this level. However at the moment, he looks fatigued and doesn’t yet have the strength and body to compete against the mature sides. Pederson is an undersized ruck/ruck-rover- anywhere else at senior level and he is lost. JKH simply doesn’t do enough for someone who doesn’t get a lot of the ball- he needs to hurt the opposition, but doesn’t have the weaponary at senior level. The prospect of Hunt finding form is too much to ignore. If he can start to get some run and carry and apply his old pressure and physicality, we’ll go to the next level. He gets another week to find this form. AVB is kicking goals and moving better each week. I don’t blame him for Aliir’s dominance in the first half as none of the kicks were put anywhere near AVB’s advantage; most sailed meters over his head, straight to his opponent.

I'm going to Perth ... Am I crazy?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perth a great place to visit! (Just stay away from the footy) -
Love watching Rayner play. The kid is a jet and has all the makings of a very, very good player.

Oskar Baker out for 6 weeks with Hamstring
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hopefully the next few weeks is all about getting our better senior players back in the team, rather than looking to blood a debutant. Baker has had a good first season developing in the vfl. Bank it, then hit preseason at full speed. -
Take these stories with a grain of salt, but that is absurd money being offered if true. I rate Polec as a player, but only Nth Melbourne values him that highly.

Who will be the next Dees Brownlow Winner
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oliver has already become a much greater player than I ever thought he could be. He’ll be the best player in the league sooner rather than later. Brownlows though are fickle things and I’d rather have 3-4 players capable of winning one like Brisbane (Voss, Akermanis, Black) West Coast (Cousins, Judd, Kerr, Cox) than one standout player like Judd at Carlton or Fyfe at Freo. -
I thought for a first game back he was great and didn’t notice what some perceived as a lack of pace. He’s always struck me as a natural footballer above all else and I think he adds a unique element to our line-up. His strength and physicality will be needed against a battle hardened Swans. As some others have suggested, I think he stays, with JKH making way for Melksham.

This principle is fine, but who makes this decision? How much time are they given to reach the conclusion? What resources do they have at their disposal? It is a massive decision to make and we rarely ever have consensus in the AFL community over the outcome of match-review and tribunal hearings.
-
I’m opposed. It’s ripe for manipulation from players taking a dive. As much as I’m loath to use this as an example, but would Will Schofield have been carded for his blatant strike on Oliver last year? There are plenty of times where something appears to be terrible, but on closer examination is not so bad. That’s why the system in place is meant to explore the evidence in detail, hear expert and witness testimony, then reach a decision. This due process would be eliminated with a ‘Red Card’.

Currently on the same team as Hamish Brayshaw. He’s got some uncomfortable conversations ahead of him whichever way he turns.
-
Disgusting. Should not play again this season, regardless of finals results. I can’t bear the ‘good bloke’ or ‘not a thug’ excuses. This act cancels out any of that instantly.
-
Has he forgotten his second match? (Round 2, 2016)
-
Hopefully he is 100% aware of respecting every opponent and knows that if you assume a game is in the bag, you’ll get rolled. So... I hope he gives a toss about it.
-
Worrying lack of respect for the opposition here today. Melbourne supporters, more than anyone else in world sport, should know that no win is ever certain. The following wooden spooners have beaten us in my time following the club: We drew with Sydney in ‘92 and lost to them in 93 and 94, lost to Western Bulldogs 03, Carlton twice in 06, Richmond in 07, West Coast in 2010, GWS in 2013, StKilda in 2014, Carlton in 2015, and the Essendon reserves in 2016. We missed the finals with final round losses to Brisbane in 95 and Collingwood in 2017. StKilda ran all over us this year, in a match where the final score did not reflect the extent of their dominance. Talk of ‘record’ scores and margins is very premature. We should respect every contest and bring 100% ever time we play.
-
How exactly does a ‘side trade’ work? Is it inferring that we’d trade a ‘promising young mid’ to them on the cheap, in return for them allowing us to take Gaff as a free agent?
-
Really like what Chris Fagan is building up there in Brisbane and loved the footage of him consoling Rayner after their loss to Nth. Their playing list now seems genuinely invested in the club and they’ve moved miles ahead of Carlton who were at a similar stage on their rebuild.
-
Frawley is a very average footballer. He played his last couple of seasons with us like he'd mentally checked out, and he's playing in a similar way for Hawthorn now they're on the slide.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Dee1987's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love a good trade hypothetical thread, but I feel that people should add ‘How we’d get said player...’ to their suggestions. There are many suggestions here that are in no way realistic if we didn’t trade out Hogan, Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw or Gawn.
