  1. Except Carlton literally finished last...
  2. I think something's gotta give. The club obviously sees the need to add a big bodied defender to the line-up if we're looking to hand over a first round pick for May. McDonald, Weideman and Hogan (with possibly a resting ruckman) is a very, very tall forward line. In regards to a pure, goal kicking forward - I'd take McDonald over Hogan. Coleman medalists very rarely win you a flag - be done 4 times since 1990. Jesse has the capability to be McGovern-like down back and, IMHO, is worth a look.
  3. If it has taken this long for any sort of announcement from the club, Hogan or his management, it tells me that neither player, nor club is chomping at the bit for this trade to happen. They might be 'OK' with it, but there certainly isn't any urgency. - Encourage May to stay at GCS - we have nothing to trade and we will take him next year as a FA. If he can't wait, he can't wait. - Hogan to honour his contract - another year at the MFC where he gets to experience some success and watch on as Freo, without Neale, crash and burn. - Trial Jesse at CHB over the preseason and into the start of the regular season. He will add some defensive skills and versatility to his game and may provide us with a powerful, big bodied, contested marker on the back half. Weideman and McDonald can develop a partnership and prepare for the possibility of Hogan leaving. - If, after some success and another year away from home, he still wants to return, this may open up WCE as a genuine competitor for his signature. If not, then Freo will still have a very decent pick to offer as their list is in big, big trouble.
  4. Whoever was the bright spark at Nth that decided that it would be a good idea to be so public and vocal about the their big recruiting over the last two seasons needs to be fired or reassigned to the Carlton FC social media management.
  5. I cannot for the life of me understand why it’s not played the week before the bye. There could not possibly be a more simple and straightforward solution.
  6. The West Coast Eagles didn't think so. This was on their whiteboard on Grand Final day and was their mantra throughout the season.
  7. Unless we get a very good offer, I'd like Tyson to see out his contract as we wont get much in an trade at this stage. At his absolute worst, he is very good inside midfield depth. At his best, he's a very good contributor at senior level. I'll back him in to improve in 2019. If he doesn't, I'm not sure he'd have reduced his trade value by much. If he does step up, then we've got a good player on the list, or a much more valuable one to trade at the end of his contract.
  8. The puzzling things about the advocates for only pick 5 from Fremantle is the idea that Hogan has somehow gone down in value since he was drafted. Picks 3 and 14 for Hogan, Dom Barry and Pick 20. Hogan has gone on to win the rising Star Award and kick 152 goals from 71 games. With the draft still a lottery, surely Hogan's value has increased over the past 6 years...
  9. I can't imagine how Rankine would be available by Freo's/our first pick...
  10. Exceptional tackler! But can you remember the last holding the ball awarded to him?
  11. Not a particularly memorable stat... I honestly can’t remember the last time Oliver or Brayshaw did either. I can remember when he kicked 47 goals from 20 matches, won 36 free kicks whilst giving away only 16, pulled in 125 marks and 365 disposals all while averaging over 2 tackles a game as a key position forward.
  12. Coincidently, Martin toured the GWS facilities in 2014...
  13. If Jesse could not run away from the press on that dodgy foot for another two weeks... that’d be great.
  14. Giving him a taste of the scrutiny and pressure of life in a two horse town.
  15. I understand the sentiment and frustration but disagree. He has committed to the club when he signed his last contract extension, it would be manifestly unfair if he honoured that contract, yet we demanded an additional extension on top of the one he's already committed to. There are plenty of players on our list who are out of contract next year, yet we're no demanding an extension from them...
  16. This is an excellent get! There’s a risk there with his medical history, but a potentially huge reward if he can get through it. Great value.
  17. Yeah- he knows he’s gone. Jones demonstrates that he’s diplomatic, articulate, a leader and a decent human being in the way he spoke about Hogan.
  18. Can't imagine why he would want to come back to a club whose supporters have made it abundantly clear that he is utterly despised. The booing of him in the early matches was unlike anything I've ever heard from our supporters.
  19. It's not the specific pick, it's the access to the pool of players. The following 'superstars' were taken between 10 and 20 since 2010: Tom Lynch (11), Brodie Smith (14), Isaac Smith (19), Toby Greene (11), Sam Doherty (12), Devon Smith (14), Brodie Grundy (19), Patrick Cripps (12), Lachie Weller (13), Jake Lever (14), Charlie Curnow (12), Daniel Rioli (15), Tom Doedee (17) Jade Gresham(18), Ryan Burton (19). That just in the 10-20 range and there are plenty more All Australian/ BnF winners outside of that range. This of course doesn't include players that would easily be in our starting 18. Draft picks are generally overrated, but there is some genuine A Grade talent available at pick 10, and we're looking at have 2 picks between 6 and 10.
  20. When you’re trading for picks, 5 year minimum imho. You can’t judge a player by their output as a 20 year old. Plenty here have called for the heads of Brayshaw, Weideman, Harmes, McDonald x 2. Olivers and Hogans are the exception.
  21. Exactly. You can only truly judge a trade 5-10 years after it’s happened. Regardless of the picks we get, it’s what we do with them that counts.
  22. Whatever the compensation may be, it’s clear to me from Jones’ comments that Hogan is leaving. I have full trust in the club to maximise the compensation, but I hope we don’t cough-up too much for May. Any compensation pick we send to Fold Coast will hopefully net is May and KK at least.
  23. Rate him! May + Kolo for pick 10 (should the Hogan trade eventuate)
  24. Ive always rated him. He would (or should be cheap) and would happily have him taking Bugg/Kent’s spot on our list.
  25. It's a shame that he hasn't fulfilled his early promise, but I've never been convinced that he'd be a consistent high level performer. Form and attitude have held him back, but in recent years it's been his body that's let him down. Maybe a new environment will see that luck change. We wont be getting a decent draft pick for him, 4th... maybe 3rd if we're very lucky. To tell you the truth, I would have done a straight swap for Goddard or Freeman, but they've been delisted so that's no help now. Billy Longer? Jack Lonie?
