Sam MaClure- "Hibberd to Melbourne, 4 year deal"
SPC replied to Rod Grinter Riot Squad's topic in Melbourne Demons
His kicking will improve, just needs some work.. Sometimes you can see he rushes his field kicking a bit and like most players who kick off one or two steps- he doesn't hit the target. Another one who needs some good education and a better understanding of when to try the impossible kicks or when to keep it simple. -

Hunt will likely move to Wing and Salem will move to HFF or Midfield. White and Wagner will be depth next year and Lumumba may not be able to play on.. That would leave only Hibberd and Melksham. -

You are right, but both Viney and Tyson have improved this part of their games.. Kent is an interesting one, as he hits them well on the run, but cannot do it while stationary. -
Yeah, could be a good one for Bernie to tag someone in the middle.. As for Issac Smith, could be a good learning curve for Jayden Hunt to go to him on the wing.. As for Hawthorns smaller forward line, could we bring in Grimes for OMAC perhaps? Or even Michie? If Garlett is to stay in the side, would like to see him further up the ground, with Ben Ken played deeper.
-
He is our cleanest player, who looks like he has the hunger to get the best out of himself. He and Hunt will own the wings at the MCG for the next 10 years...

Not too sure whether we really have anyone banging on the selectors door, but here are my likely changes.. OUT: Garlett, Vince, Harmes, Hogan (if injured) IN: Kennedy, Newton, Pederson & Oliver Garlett, is so out of form is it hard to see him as the same bloke who was a jet the first few rounds.. Kennedy to take his role Vince, just needs to go back and capture some form.. he is a leader and not doing his role well enough, Oliver to cover him Harmes out for poor disposal over and over again, Newton to come in for him Hogan, should be rested- doing a lot of work up the ground, but not effective where we need him.. His price is dropping by the week, and I am starting to feel he may be slightly over rated, especially when looking at the GCS young forwards.. Pedo to come in for him.

How does Hardwick still have a job....

Was going to ask how Oscar went at training, but don't want to derail the thread..

Perfect game for a debut player..
-
Not sure on the stats, but any suggestion that Dawes comes out of the side, is music to my ears!!!
-
I love colorful personalities as much as the next bloke.. but I am glad the game has moved on from thugs like him!!!
-
Yeah, cannot be understated how young our backline is and how much development they have ahead of them.. Gee when I look through that list, we have some poor kick among them- with the exception of Jetta.
-
It's obvious... We need a Nathan D Brown type running defender... Just not too sure who could fill the role!!
-
Fifty-5, do you know whether he played any junior footy as a backman? Was thinking that either he or Hulett could be trialed as a CHB to give us another option.
-
For the past 2 years has been mentioned as a potential AA, but has never really performed for the entire season.. He is young, durable and certainly a great athlete, with elite judgement/marking/spoiling.. I would say he is worth a top 10 pick, not sure whether we would get any player in return.
-
I didn't see the entire game, due to a family function, so my basis is purely on stats.. But would Harmes, Wagner, ANB or Hunt be most likely to miss out this week? I think that Oscar may also be sore and unlikely to play... Kennedy & Bugg both played well, anyone else a chance from the VFL? Could Terlich get his chance?
-
Could be a handy 2 year signing if he cost us nothing.. I think we have 2 good young forwards at Casey, but they are not quite ready to play AFL yet. Our bigger bodies in Dawes and Pederson are certainly not performing. He could help to cushion the transition for Hullett and Weed and help Gawn to get forward more regularly.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
SPC replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
How was Jesse's back after last week? -
Can't believe I am about to say this, as I was very vocal about this not ever happening again.. but, I would rather move TMAC to CHF than bring in Dawes!!
-
I agree 100%.. We do not have another option.. The ballistic style suits us when we are given room to open up the ground, and Etihad is easy to block up.. When we lose the ability to move the ball fast, we go into a holding pattern and players panic. We have improved our style as a club, but not too sure whether mentally we have improved much!!
-
I would give him some more time in the midfield and see how he goes in there.. West Coast's midfield are not flying, just not too sure who else we can bring in if we drop Kennedy, not too sure Oliver is grabbing his chance as has not engine..
-
Amazing how earlier in the year, we were boasting about genuine depth, now without many injuries to note- we are scrapping together replacements. List is still overrated!
-
He actually isn't slow though, he has genuine pace. Obviously not right and in need of a spell..
-
The key to the loss, was not being able to switch the ball and not having the confidence or skills to make the risky kick to setup play.. We cannot cope if we cannot switch quickly as we are poor at slow tempo football.
-
Midfield were ordinary, but the quality user off half back, who can take the risky kick to open up play is critical.. We were smashed by St Kilda because we were not allowed to switch the ball and didn't have anyone confident enough to take the risky kick in the middle, so we basically played boundary line football.
