Jesse Hogan and his kicking for goal (merged thread)
SPC replied to Ricky P's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jesse's kicking is a concern, but I am more concerned about how few times he leads to space.. Seems to always just point to put the ball on his head.. If he gets more of it and has more set shots, then his kicking will improve.. 2 set shots is not enough, considering that we were a lot better bringing the ball in this week. -
To give the guys a taste of finals this year would be amazing for next year.. Would probably set them up to aim for top 4, not just a spot in the 8.. I have a strong feeling that we might win our 2 games, but that North may sneak a win in the final round.. They have a few good players coming back from all reports and were good in the last half on the weekend.. For what it is worth, Geelong are pretenders and winning against Richmond was not an achievement as that last qrt was as insipid performance from their leaders as I have ever seen. Richmond are bottom 4 material.

I think if you come off a minor injury, then 2-3 weeks at Casey should be enough to build on fitness base and sharpen skills.. This guy from all reports lost 5kg's and had all his energy drained.. He should just continue to build fitness and form at Casey I think.

It was a great result after the Port game, because we had quite a few guys who didn't play well, yet managed a big win away.. Got an 8 day break, so no change for this week. All the guys who were off a little against Port, such as Stretch, Viney, Hogan etc will play well against the blues..

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
SPC replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
You are right, they are two totally different players. Was just trying to highlight that some clubs are now looking at a larger sample size before handing over the blank cheque to the agents. If anything, I hope that this has worked in our favor in getting a better deal for Hogan, that will allow us to retain the other young stars. -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Binman, I agree with you that he is playing well as a 2nd/3rd year player and the expectation on him is too high... However, he is about to negotiate a massive contract, apparently one of the biggest the game has seen (if you listen to the clowns in the media). There is a lot of 'buyer beware' given the 'Tom Boyd Precedent', I just have a feeling that maybe Jesse's agent was expecting to hear these huge offers, and clubs haven't come to the party yet. -
No, Dawes still being a valued member of our forward line is a myth.. The role of the pure 'decoy' forward is done..

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

I have a very strong feeling Jesse will re-sign on a 2-3 year contract similar to McDonald. To be honest his form has been a little underwhelming this year and his kicking style will scare a few clubs off him. None of the WA teams look like dominating over the next few years as West Coast also have an ageing list. He would be best to commit to the Dees for a few years, play some good finals footy and re-assess in 2019 or 2020. -
I like the idea of giving him a taste, then getting him ready for next week v the Blues if he is a bit sore.. Gee we manage players well these days.. Most players that come into the senior side now take their chance.. Roosy has seen what Weed can do, so Hogan will play with Pederson this week. Pederson is so far ahead of Dawes for that final depth spot on the list.

That missed kick was shocking, but he was so fatigued he never even wanted the ball. One thing about Oscar, his kicking action looks solid and he will become a very reliable kick with some work and maturity.

Don't blame anyone for leaving when Frawley left, we had been a mess for so long. Now we have built a club that is desirable to be at, we have strong development and improved our on field leadership.. It is not our job to try and convince Tom to stay, we have created a strong club culture and from what I understand have made him an offer which is inline with what the club can afford based on other talent we have.. It is up to Tom what he wants to do. If he goes, then we will bring someone else. It is about structure more than individual talent.

That bench for us........ Delicious!
-
Need Garlett & Kent to step up today..
-
Really need Hogan to play... The Weed will need some cover, and I am dead keen to see how they look playing together.
-
Did Jesse have another fitness test today? Wondering how he went... Anyone know?
-
Or this week he may play CHF if Hogans knee is still sore and he is limited.
-
Spot on post... Jack Watts hype was all about this 'messiah' type figure.. We have changed as a club... Good to see how he goes.
-
I think he was high risk based on injuries and whether his body could hold up.. I don't think there was a risk of him being a really good key forward as long as he had some luck with injuries..
-
I think he will one of those guys who plays better at the higher level.. I am calling it early, will have a good debut and play out the season in the 1's and never look back!!!
-
Not saying he should just walk, but he should be honest and admit that he is not taking the club in the right direction.. Coaches get contracts because they sell on their vision, Hardwick has over- sold and under- delivered.
-
He won't walk, Richmond will continue with him and waste another season.. My only hope is, that we play them twice next year!!
-
T-Mac with his flaws, is one player who has enjoyed an injury free run.. That alone adds contract value!
-
An honorable man would... but then again, Hardwick does not have this quality.. History has shown that once you fail as an AFL Head Coach, then you are thrown on the scrap heap.
-
If teams are picked on form and VFL form is the basis of a player being adjudge to replace and under performing AFL player, then he should be back in this week... Not saying that I necessarily want this, but surely reward for effort must be there..
-
Most but not all.... Still have some Tiger friends acquaintances who believe their list is still in good shape, and that if they brought in a new coach and new game plan, they would be back playing finals.
