While pederson hasn't shown heaps at afl level what I have seen in him is the ability to read the play, the ability to take a mark and the mentality to take the game on. To me he looks unfit. That is extremely disappointing if the case but if he can get his fitness right and get shine confidence up I can seed him playing a role. We often talk about wanting "footballers not athletes" and I think he is a good example. At levels down he would be a great footballer, but we need to seed if he can transport those skills to afl level. For these reasons, I can see him being an appropriate swap for Garland but not as versatile obviously.

But Neeld was the coach who promoted jack to the Melbourne side. How does that support the feeling that Neeld stamped his papers? We are seriously re writing history now...

One of my favourites. Better the GCS, WCE, PA, Freo at the least. And up there with others as well.

It is patronising. Not by design but because of where we are. As if we need a song to tell us we used to be good but now we're crap, so go out and try harder? Worse idea than any of the club history stuff that had been done over the past 5 years. At least that had a purpose.

Or GWSs?

RE not missing best 22 players, we are missing fringe players who would rotate in and our based on form. Not a major problem but does impact selection.

It doesn't beg the question at all. It raises a question. That phrase had been used very incorrectly on here lately!

*insert look to the past not the present, this sort of stuff is crap unless we are good type comments here* Cmon the bag out schwab and stynes for this sort of thing, where is the anger and the vitriol now??? Get fired up demonland!

Exactly what I'm hoping r57.

The ridiculous thing is she is using her position . Formal journalist to try and influence the contractual decisions relating to key young players at her club. It may not have an affect on the player in question but it will be a mind worm to readers and the public. Did she wrote that James Frawley and Colin Sylvia should stick with Melbourne, the club who has supported them and paid them "overs", in a show of faith to help rebuild? Did she write that Daisy Thomas should resign with Collingwood die to the faith they've shown him during injury? What is her opinion on another "party boy" Lance Franklin? Should he stay for stability? This article smacks of using her influence for her own agenda.

There is a reason why port had him as fly in fly out assistant coach for two years. He did have North at the top of the ladder for a couple of years. Even if not a serious contender for senior he should be loooked at very closely as an assistant . interesting article about 2007. Lots of noises are similar to now, but with slightly different players. http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/laidley-rejects-demons-advances/story-e6frf38u-1111114142093

Webber, from your experience is it possible it will never settle, or will rest and drugs etc always allow recovery?

so are you suggesting that of he have been pick 20 or 30 in that draft we would have delayed him by now? I reckon if he was pick 30 we'd be saying how happy we are with his progress despite his lack of paragon. We'd be lamenting his lack of pace but we'd be stoked that he is so competitive with his tackling and talking about his promising ability to bob up and luck the odd goal and hoping that with better fitness he could push forward more and hurt opponents on the scoreboard. He is far from perfect, but judge him as an afl player on our list and in the afl; the number 2 has no bearing on how he is progressing as a player nor his spot on the list.

My understanding is that the afl gets funding amongst other things from the government. If the afl thumb their noses at asada or wada and Fi it alone the government would need to denounce them and cut off all ties or we would risk other participation such as the Olympics. Ie there is more at stake than just how the afl want to react. I'd the government decide to black list the afl that is very bad.

wyl, I'll accept your opinion on captain (I disagree and have made my reasons clear, but is a mot point for this convo) but what does pick 2 have to do with anything? Would you be singing good praises of he was a pick 10? Pick 20? Pick 50? rookie? The kid got 20 something touches and 12 tackles this week. Pick 2 has nothing to do with it. He is clearly in our best 22, probably in our best 10. Yeah if we drafted 10 better players he night struggle for a game but we haven't. I don't understand what denigrating gin bad on draft pick achieves. Judge him as a footballer not as a draft pick. You can judge the draft pick, which you may consider a failure because he wasn't a Judd etc. but that is a different conversation and a downy issue than judging the player.

not sure if serious or troll level 9000.

I hope Cale makes a career or of forty at West Coast. He didn't bag us after he left, he had a couple of promising years then struggled. I really feel hos biggest problem was confidence and it would be good to see him find that again. I think he had 3 coaches in his time at the mfc, a bit of stability will be good for him.

particularly if it gifts jamar a game he doesn't deserve.

Trengove has had a solid month. Our most consistent over that period. I'd like him to be getting 30 touches not 20. But given the state of our list and how we play as a team, no one gets much more than 20 touches.
-
you're right but he is clean and uses it well compared to the rest of our mids. I think he is one who will benefit from better midfielders around him.
-
Shocking decision. No more deliberate than half of the oobs tonight. Matt Jones has been good.
-
Fitzy , poor game, 4 goals. The sort of performances we need from players having a tough day.
-
Byrnes fumbles again.
-
We don't have any accumulators. That's the difference. Blokes who can rack up 30+ touches. Run hard, link up, kick the ball Ok, be involved. 2 of those and we'll have 40 extra disposals a week, which will go a long way to closing the gap in possession and making us more competitive.

Free against Dawes when Fitzroy player drops it?
