  1. Give Trengove a run, leave him in the middle, see how he goes.
  2. Trengove is more than serviceable as a ruck man. He held it down for Port last year. Would be a good back up for Gawn. Gives us an option for Gawn to rest down back - swapping wtih Trengove, or up forward - swapping with Watts.
  3. Second rounder at tops. May isn't very good.
  4. Not as bad as Salem getting hauled out of bounds - taken off the ball - only for the free kick to go against him. The club should demand to the AFL that Nicholls doesn't umpire a Melbourne game again. He cheated. Plain and simple, and I never whinge over umpiring. Today was clear bias. It was a game full of terrible decisions. Cost us the game.
  5. Negative: Our ineffectiveness continues. Once again we were pathetic. Too many times we just hacked it on the boot. It is disappointing. So much effort doing the 1%, but so much hard work being undone through stupid errors. - Nicholls should never umpire a Melbourne game again. Positive: Not many. Probably our resilience to get back into the game. Our effort was there much of the time. We got close to winning even though we played well below our best. Doing this with a side that doesn't have Gawn or Hogan.
  6. I don't know about never play again. But Bugg should remain at Casey as a depth player, and only be called on if we really need him. There is no position for Bugg in this side. He isn't a great kick, and he cannot break into the midfield. I think both Bugg and Melksham should remain in the VFL. They may look above the VFL, but they aren't good AFL players.
  7. I think the club should petition the AFL to not have Nicholls ever umpire a Melbourne game again. I am not one to usually lay blame on the umpires, but Nicholls cost us the game today. No doubt.
  8. I think we have the team to make the 8, and have the team to perhaps even make the grand final. But, we are too inconsistent. Our first half against Essendon looked as pathetic as I have seen a football performance in my lifetime - granted Essendon were equally as lousy, it was a sh*tty spectacle. Based on that game I'd find it hard to entertain we could even make finals. Then a few weeks later we smash Adelaide at home, and looking like a team that could go all the way. We can't afford to be good one week and sh*t the next. Although our lapses are getting fewer and fewer in games, I would be surprised if we could put it all together this year consistently. Our year thus far suggests we won't.
  9. I wouldn't play Brayshaw again this year. If Brayshaw does continue then he needs to think of what is the safest way forward (for his career). Now he has copped a few too many head knocks, he is going to have to change his game. I have seen people talk about wearing helmets, etc. But that doesn't achieve much. It can often just give a false sense of security. Brayshaw doesn't need to believe he can wear a helmet, and continue to play his own game, and that everything will be ok - it won't. If Brayshaw does decide to continue an AFL career then he is going to have to completely change the way he plays the game. My suggestion would be to model his game along the lines of Sam Mitchell, with the goal of broadening his vision, slowing down leading into contests (it will naturally broaden his vision and lessen any incoming contact), precision kicking off both feet, etc. Gus has the rest of the year to now study tapes and work on reshaping his game.
  10. Hunt just give the thumbs up. Well that is a relief.
  11. We just can't take a trick.
  12. Tyson too slow, surprise surprise.
  13. Salem was doing well on Betts, but was benched for 10 mins. Why I don't know. Was a costly bench.
  14. Dangerfield is a car crash waiting to happen. Although he is one of the special exemptions that are allowed to dive on the ball without getting pinged for taking the opponents feet out, playing like Dangerfield would only result in more concussions for Brayshaw. If he needs to give anyone a call it would be Ablett jr, or Marc Murphy, who keep their feet around a contest, and wait for that ball to come out.
  15. That is why we need Kelly. We have so many ineffective mids on the other end of Oliver's sharp handballs - that it is often a waste Oliver getting it out. We need to be more effective as a team. This is our single major issue at the moment. Oliver could get the ball out 25 times a game, but if he is putting it in the hands of someone who just hacks it out, then it is pointless Oliver getting it in the first place. We need a player like Josh Kelly who will not waste the football. Better yet, he would be a good chance of hitting Hogan lace out dead in front. There are plenty of players we could think about culling, or offloading in order to get Josh Kelly. He is what we need at the moment, and there are half of list of players we probably do not need. At present we are looking at a bottom 6 finish. Our draw gets harder here on in. We'll most likely need to make some major changes at seasons end IMO.
  16. We can back our youth and still put in a reasonable offer for Kelly. There are a lot of passengers on this list. Get Kelly, then do some pruning. We overrated our list.
  17. I hope so. We are sorely lacking a Kelly. I would give up a dozen Melksham's for a Josh Kelly. I hope we go all out on Kelly, he is exactly what we need. We need more effective players. At present we have a lot of solid battlers. We need some class.
  18. The next couple of seasons will be the judge of Goodwin. At present we are inconsistent, and largely ineffective. If that trend continues then we will finish bottom 6 and Goodwin will have the job ahead of him to turn that around next year. Ultimately I think Goodwin's biggest challenge will be to throw out what doesn't work, and find a way to identify - and implement - what does work. He may have to target some outside resources (coaches, assistants, etc) in order to get some finer details into his game plan ( or even change his game plan). For so long we have focused on culture, and trying to rebuild some of these damaged souls, but at present we are having a problem with players implementing basic common sense skills. There is no real need in today's game for players to bomb and hack the ball into our forward 50. I was hoping that trait left our club when we offloaded Moloney to the Lions.
  19. We are dragging Hawthorn down to our level at least.
  20. Agree. He actually takes the game on. Hibberd and Hunt have a dip.
  21. Our first half last year was as bad as I've seen for a long time. Today isn't much better.
  22. Get Jayden Hunt in the middle. This kid is gutsy.
  23. Nathan Jones is Jordan Lewis like by foot today - terrible.
