Jonathan Patton is only in his 3rd year, has already missed a year with an ACL but I'd still take him over Watts right now. David Swallow is in his 4th year and id take him ahead of our whole midfield right now. Watts is in his 6th year and he still gets babied like it is his second. If he aint gonna have a crack now when will he?

I agree, he is as soft as butter. He will never be a good player until he willingly puts his body on the line week in week out. All the skill in the world is useless unless you can fight and win your own footy and not just [censored] foot around the packs. Prove me wrong Jack, prove me wrong

He could start by focusing on the footy and who ever is holding it. It's just pathetic when he applies token pressure on a bloke who easily handballs it to another player and then watts just stands there watching him run off rather then chase the next contest and at least put some pressure on. We keep hearing about his elite foot speed but would it kill him to use it and chase someone down?

They should both be embarrassed by that [censored] slap more then anything. Georgiou for not getting him with a real one and Buddy for dropping like a sack of [censored]

Looks like we really are becoming the new Sydney. More worried about being scored against then kicking a big score. still at least there is more effort this year

I would go to it for sure being the night before a public holiday but are we just piggybacking a bit? While a block buster game would be awesome, it just sound like the AFL cash grabbing and taking away from the significance of the day a little bit. Kind of watering it down. I know a lot of d'landers hate the fact that it has become exclusively Essendon and Collingwood, but it is a formula that works. Essendon and Collingwood did all the hard work at the start to make it what it is today and quite frankly the Demons could never make it as big as what the Pies and Bombers do. We just aren't a big enough club to pull 95,000 to the MCG without it being a final. The fact we only have 33,000 members is proof of that. Id love to have a big block buster game against the Tigers but I just don't think ANZAC day (eve) is the right time just because it seems like we are just milking a day that should be about remembering and commemorating the service sacrifices of our armed forces.

It would be nice to see them wear a no gimmick, no clash jumper again one day. This year alone we will have the names on jumpers round, indigenous jumper, pink Breast cancer jumper (for a good cause at least), clash jumper every other week, heritage jumper later in the year... am I missing any?

Easy draw? We were beaten by all 17 other teams last year! How can we consider any draw easy? I'm all for optimism but if we make finals I'll eat my membership scarf!

Tradition is and will always be pushed aside in favour of innovation. Agree with it or not its happening. Its been happening for years and the names on the jumpers is a relatively small change compared to a lot of other changes over the last 50 or more years. Jumpers without sleaves, sponsor logos everywhere, we changed our colours from navy blue to royal blue (and back again) to accommodate colour TV, clash jumpers, night time footy, sunday footy, mid week footy, suburban home grounds, grounds with no mud, indoor stadium, new training bases(AAMI Park, Westpac centre etc.), rules of game, expansion teams, VFL to AFL, the list could go on forever. These are all things that have changed over the years that have now become the norm. Give it a few years and people wont remember a time without names on jumpers just as we have become accustomed to all the other changes and innovations over the years.
