  1. Players like Spargo need to stop flapping their arms, and get to the fall of the ball. Plus kicking to a stationary target can be easily intercepted. Kicking to a leading target is the higher percentage play. I've watched the 2021 GF probably 50 times, and the most inexcusable bit of play was at the start of the last qtr. Sparrow rightfully ignored Spargo's lead into the pocket, and kicked it to BBB at the top of the square. Spargo had a dummy spit instead of running to the fall of the ball, should BBB have dropped the mark. Spargo gets way to many credits for his 1 or 2 30 metre passes a game.
  2. Most players in Hunt's position would take the security of a better financial offer, when your current club doesn't show you any love. I agree with Picket, and Hunt should have been given an opportunity on the wing or up forward. Let's compare Hunt (the ball butcher) to Spargo (elite kick) when both were played up forward. Spargo 2021/2022 49 games 28 goals 28 behinds Hunt 2019 21 games 21 goals 10 behinds Hunt's pace could have been utilised to apply forward defensive pressure, rather than go-slow Spargo.
  3. Your time machine was warped. You needed to program it 20 years earlier before Tom's father Jack was zoned to Geelong. Jumping Jack Hawkins was a very good footballer.
  4. My argument is that I'd like us to get a player that may change the dynamics of how we play, because there was little evidence of Plan B. The Cats getting Stengle was probably seen as a minor acquisition before the season started, but ended up being hugely important.
  5. And that's exactly what I said, and for some reason was called "negative". I'm sure we'll be involved with some draft pick swaps, which will get some Demonlanders excited.
  6. Whilst all other potential trades are out in the open, we're secretly hiding some blockbuster move. Yeah right. And I'm sure you were one of those that didn't believe that Jackson was leaving.
  7. I don't think any clubs leak, but Player Agents have family, friends and contacts in the media. And divulging potential player movements prior to Trade Week doesn't haven't any impact on the end result. I'm afraid that there will be no Big Fish landed. Maybe some guppies.
  8. Is John Laws hosting Trade Radio?
  9. A 3 year offer for Bedford is another head scratcher. Are we offering him an extra year, but on less money per annum? Personally, I think that Bedford is a limited footballer. But if he has the tank, he could be a useful defensive small forward who's capable of averaging a goal a game. And I see that as an upgrade on Spargo. We have plenty of players who can apply defensive pressure at the contest, but very few with the pace of Bedford and Hunt to be able to apply defensive pressure once the ball has cleared the contest. I think we need to inject pace into the team, so retaining Bedford makes sense. But the problem is whether stubborn Goody will make any changes to his Premiership team.
  10. Our forwards don't have to worry about leading patterns. Just plonk yourself in the left forward pocket and you'll find it. And how often do you see our backs trying to dissect the opposition with precision passing? Long up the line is our MO. A running defender can breakup defensive zones. And yes the fans loved seeing Hunt change the game against Carlton with his run and dare, when the game looked lost.
  11. My concern is that we could have a lot of players who could be cooked physically or career wise next year. BBB, T Mac, Tomlinson, J.Smith, Weid, Hibbo, Melk, Grundy. On top of that we had numerous key players have leg/foot injuries this year. If we don't get any best 22 players in aside from Grundy, we'll be relying on quite of few of our kids who have yet to debut.
  12. Oh c'mon and let me know.
  13. I suspect his decision will be based on which club shows the most love ($ and years). He's best 22 and played 20 games in each of the past 2 years. He won't be leaving for more opportunity. If we've offered him a lowball contract, then in some ways we are "palming him off".
  14. Tomlinson not finishing in the top 10 is telling, despite playing most of the year at Casey. Explains the lack of interest by other clubs. Fair chance that Corey Ellison will get drafted. Hopefully by us.
  15. Only backman that generated any run. Compo will be negligible. Would prefer to keep.
  16. Don't know why. Gunston is a smart footballer who could fit into any sides forward line. He's a better fit than McStay.
  17. I'm not sure where the list management is going if they trade Weid. I've never been a fan of him, but he definitely showed enough improvement as a ruckman at Casey to be required as ruck depth. Without Jackson and Weid, we'd need to bring in 3 ruckmen onto our list. Grundy is obviously one, plus a mature ager at Casey, and the other a rookie. I perish the thought that we'd use JVR as a 2nd ruck should Max or Grundy get injured. T Mac and BBB are physically unable to play the 2nd ruck role.
  18. Do you really think clubs add a premium based on those? Lewis Taylor won a Rising Star. Jacob Townsend was an impactful player in a Premiership side. Club BnF finishes would hold more weight.
  19. I think we are buying Phar Lap. He's stuffed and his heart is in another place.
  20. The Kozzie rumour has as much credence as the Naughton rumour on Demonland. Both are a figment of someone's imagination.
  21. An agility test must have been part of his fitness test. If we can't get Tomlinson off our books, can't see us doing anything major other than getting Grundy. No chance of absorbing the Bowes contract.
  22. No offence, but "grain of salt" is all I can take from that. Your mate is thinking of the Grundy under Buckley, where their midfield (including Grundy) racked up huge possessions because they were indirect. Grundy's numbers dropped this year under McCrae before he got injured. His average marks was 2.5, the lowest since his 2nd season. He kicked 2 goals in 6 games. As a comparison, Darcy Cameron averaged 3.8 marks, and kicked 20 goals in 24 games. Grundy obviously averaged more hitouts because he was the primary ruck, but Cameron shared the ruck duties with Cox, and they lost nothing in hitout numbers without Grundy. Give me a Darcy Cameron type as 2nd ruck to Max than Grundy every time. And note, the Pies have beaten us the past 3 times without Grundy.
  23. Ok, now that the season is done there's no reason why @Grand New Flag can't divulge the contracted key forward that we are allegedly in talks with.
  24. That's not how it works in the NBA. Refer above and Russell Westbrook.
  25. The Pies need Grundy off their books in order to re-sign De Goey and get all their trade targets in. They see that as more desirable than keeping Grundy. That automatically decreases his true value significantly. You also haven't factored in that he's coming off 2 long term injuries, and the length of his contract, which is a negative. By my reckoning, his true value is a Pick 40. And no club in their right mind would take on Grundy's full contract and give up pick 35. The Pies would need to pony up a pick for that to happen. If you want a comparison of what a salary dump should look like, Russell Westbrook at the LA Lakers is a classic case. He has won a league MVP and relatively his personal accomplishments exceed that of Grundy. But he's on a bad contract and is a bad on court fit for the Lakers. Other clubs are asking for 2 1st round picks to take Westbrook off the Lakers hands. Westbrooks perceived talent is not a consideration, and that's how the Grundy deal should be negotiated.
