  1. Spargo started on the bench. After Brisbane scored their 1st goal, Spargo was on the wing and marked Gawn's errant kick from the centre bounce. He may have been one of many who rotated through there. But he definitely wasn't playing as a small forward, as he was rarely seen inside 50.
  2. Spargo clearly started on the wing, but it's hard to gauge what percentage of time he spent there because he was largely unsighted after the 1st qtr. And we have a ready made wingman in Jordon, so we don't have to turn a backman into a wingman. Stop making excuses for Spargo's lack of output.
  3. Not sure why. Our record interstate is better than at the G.
  4. ANB wasn't getting caught last year, or even the first half of this year. He's out of form, pure and simple. He works hard, but should be playing better.
  5. Do you think Spargo is a better wingman than Jordon? Because that's where Spargo played.
  6. That's speculation. Jackson may not have told the club or his teammates, but I reckon his manager has given the club an inkling of his intentions to leave.
  7. There is no way that Melksham gets dropped before Spargo or ANB. Melksham had assists in many of our early goals, when the game was up for grabs. And he's shown that he's a better crumbing forward than Spargo. Spargo the talisman? Based on what? Hardly touched the ball for about a month. And twice now in 2 weeks he's pulled out of contests. When the game was up for grabs. ANB was slow as he has been for weeks. Got into the game in the 2nd half once the game was over.
  8. In: Salem, Jordon Out: Bowey, Spargo Salem for Bowey is the obvious change. I don't see how Spargo gets a gig on the wing ahead of Jordon, especially if it's at the MCG. Only 9 possessions, 1 contested possession and only 1 tackle. Largely unsighted once again. ANB is still out of form, but at least I can acknowledge his gut running is important. Spargo has me mystified.
  9. You are spot on TU. It wasn't the sort of game that Goody would describe as "on our terms". Brisbane had plenty of clear entries inside 50. In some respects, we were more dominant against the Pies in the first 3 quarters than against the Lions. But there were 2 significant differences. From the 1st minute, there was a notable shift in how we entered our forward 50. I haven't seen us lower our eyes all year. Amazing how much easier it was for Fritta and BBB when they were allowed to lead up to the ball carrier. And secondly, our backline slaughtered the Lions forwards in one on one contests. For us to be at our best, the players need to be given some sort of license when we have the ball to hit up leading targets, and not be solely concerned about the ramifications of a turnover. We have the best backline to deal with that.
  10. Add to that list Turner. Putting Weid at CHB may enhance his chances of getting a gig at another club, but he won't get into our senior team playing that role. The comparison to Liam Jones and Paddy McCartin isn't warranted. Jones was always a good contested mark, but was wasteful with his kicking. Paddy McCartin never had the chance to prove himself as a forward due to his concussion issues. Weid has had plenty of chances. People need to stop making excuses for him.
  11. TBH, I cared about the Brownlow during all the years when we were a poor side. We've won our share of them in my lifetime. Now I've come to realise that a Brownlow doesn't define a player's achievements. Last year I was glad that one of our players didn't win it, as I saw it as a distraction with the G/F coming up. The same applies to this year. If we make it through to the Granny, I'd rather Clarry not win it. If we don't, it would be nice recognition for him to win it, but it wouldn't upset me if he didn't.
  12. In the same vein as Melbourne did it for Robbie in 1987, let's do it for a couple of our club greats in Hanners and Kenty.
  13. Yeah I'm sure that Spargo met his KPI's with his 4 possessions.
  14. This forum is based on opinions that are generally supported by evidence. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that Spargo is a failure as a wingman, if you watch the games. The "the match committee knows better" argument is a load of rubbish. They don't always get it right.
  15. Jordon unlucky. Others in worse form.
  16. BBB hasn't been poor. He's playing a lone hand as a tall forward and is performing his role.
  17. He's 5 ft nothing, so easy to miss. Agree, seems like a bust for pick 2. At best, he'll be an Andrew Swallow.
  18. They overachieved last year, and he got them into finals with an average list. The expectations that they would improve this year were false. If Clarkson wasn't available, Rutten would still be coaching next year. I'm not sure if Rutten will ever be a good senior coach, but his record as an assistant is very good.
  19. Neal-Bullen or Spargo. Breust's offensive prowess far outweighs what we get from Spargo or ANB defensively. We need to take advantage of our midfield brilliance and blowout teams when we're on top. Our supposed forward pressure has been massively overrated this year.
  20. Correct. Zurhaar is gettable because he's out of contract, and has delayed talks till season end. If Clarkson doesn't end up at North, Zurhaar's chances of leaving are more likely.
  21. Gawn took Cameron apart and we lost. Finlayson got completely dominated by Draper. Hit out numbers were something like 60-10, and the Bombers lost by a trillion. A dominant ruckman is only as good as his midfield, and can be easily neutralised.
  22. The person you are talking to is clueless. The mil a year was a bad contract, and has nothing to do worth his current worth.
  23. He hasn't been an AA ruckman for 2 seasons and currently has a long term injury. And the salary dump is totally relevant to his worth. Pies are trying to offload him for multiple reasons. I wouldn't give up a 2nd rd pick for him.
  24. I don't see Grundy as being a more consistent target down the line than Jackson. That's Grundy's weakness. Gunston for 2 years has less downside than Grundy for 5. Grundy's contract could become a problem if he can't perform a role the club hopes he can.
