  1. What a load of tripe!!! You make it sound as though we are investors in the club. Personally, my membership is a donation, and at the moment, I don't expect any return other than survival, and ultimately success. You would have been rapt with Szondy's appointment, given his impeccable credentials? Sometimes in business it requires intangible qualities, that aren't found in a business degree, to achieve success. Passion and the ability to promote change are a couple of qualities that Stynes has to offer. If our members elect the board based on how many letters the candidates have after their name, we will continue to be a basket case.
  2. He is a figurehead that the club desperately needs at this time. He is someone that the general public can relate to, which can only help the Melbourne brand. We need to change our image of being a conservative, dormant club, that is unappealing to the masses. How many kids wear Melbourne jumpers at Auskick? Clubs like West Coast, Adelaide and Essendon don't need a figurehead president. We do!
  3. grazman, business credentials alone won't save our club. The nature of the industry, and in particular the MFC, means that during times of poor on-field performances, our bottom line gets hit. Now is the time to get people with energy, passion and the time to devote to the club. Football is all about perceptions, and regardless of how well you think the current board have performed, the status quo can't remain.
  4. You and RR seem to forget that Stynes already has the imprimatur of Demetriou and the AFL, which means that his vision and plans are not half-baked. For John Phillips to dig his heels in, suggests that his board position is nothing more than an ego-trip.
  5. All this talk of trading for early draft picks is garbage. With the new Gold Coast side having a stockpile of early picks from 2009, clubs will not trade early picks unless there's a Jono Brown trade involved. So all this talk of trading the likes of Sylvia, Bruce and Green for 2nd or 3rd round draft picks is senseless.
  6. Correct. Nothing worse than a Melbourne team coming off an honourable loss. Especially when the oppostion have been slammed by the media all week. Is it just me that thinks that Morton is being rested this week (no Sandy game), and the bit about the flu is just a ruse to avert any stigma with him actually being dropped.

To describe any player as being "nothing at the moment", is more than just being circumspect, it's downright insulting. Newton played some good football last season, but like nearly everyone on our list, he started the season poorly. He has since been out injured, so your assessment of how he's going on and off the field is unwarranted.

Nasher, you're just like Rhino. You make open-ended statements such as the above, which gives you a get out clause when you're proven wrong. Now give us a definitive assessment as to whether you think that Newton will make it as an AFL football.

Nasher, that's just your opinion. And we know what your initial opinion of Aussie was as well! And do you know whether or not he was carrying an injury early in the season? In my opinion, he has all the tools to be a good full forward at AFL level.

Well said Gouga. Even if Newton doesn't play a senior game this year, he is definitely worth persisting with. He's played less than 20 gamse as a key position forward, and people want to write him off.
  11. I see Morton as a Ryan Griffin type, who spent his early years as a creative half back, before being moved into the midfield. Haven't seen anything in Morton to suggest that he could play KP.
  12. Whilst it's great to see our young key backs showing some promise, we still lack classy running defenders who have the skill and poise to get out of tight situations, and are creative with their use of the ball. If we're going to play a style of football the revolves around handballing when under pressure, Daniel Bell just don't cut it. Down the track, I could see Morton and Petterd filling these roles.
  13. Now we just need RR to do a Fonz, and admit he was wrong. Nah, can't see it happening. B)
  14. Spot on Deanox. I've been keen on him because he has the physical attributes to play key position, which is something that Carroll has never had. It's worth noting that most of the premier key backmen started their junior careers as forwards. Let's hope that Garland can follow this trend. However, if Warnock continues his form, I'm willing to eat humble about what I've written about him.
  15. The club's ongoing strategy of not disclosing injuries has really thrown our opponents this year! This has been a bugbear of mine, and it's about time the club shows some respect to not only their supporters, but also to the players. The players would not be subjected to unjustified derision and ridicule, if the club was honest about the extent of their injuries. This season is already shot as far as making the finals, so what is to be gained by playing ducks and drakes with disclosing a players' injury?
  16. Your quite happy to criticise Daniher, because of our poor showing in finals, yet you're full of praise for Craig, when Adelaide have achieved nothing in the finals under him. Do you recall his pigheadedness in leaving Kris Massie on a rampant Buddy Franklin against the Hawks last year, when he had one of the premier defenders in Ben Rutten in his side? And who are the "7, 8 or 9" players you perceive as trade bait, given that trades rarely go through these days?
  17. He reminds me of a young David Wojcinski. He has flaws that can be ironed out over time, and definitely worth perservering with. I hope Bailey doesn't make him the team scapegoat by dropping him every 2nd week.
  18. The fact of the matter is, Carroll's best doesn't cut it at AFL level. As hard as he tries, he just aint up to it. Garland may cop a flogging tomorrow, but i've seen qualities in his game that Carroll doesn't possess, and is worth persisting with. The best selection decision by Bailey this season.
  19. Isn't this the round where we supposedly start picking sides for the future? Maybe this is a signal that Bailey doesn't see Carroll as a long term full back. And he would be correct with this judgement.
  20. Nah, my experience in video games didn't progress past Pong.
  21. Warnock - Definitely target for PSD, or give Freo a token draft pick. Mundy - Good player, but doesn't solve our need for a strong KP backman. Murphy - Potentially good player, but I wouldn't give anything more than a 3rd round draft pick for him.
  22. Nah, behind that laugh (snigger), Green was probably saying to himself, "who's this f#ckwit think he is". However, he had the good sense to laugh it off.
  23. I'll be interested to see who gets the 2nd ruck position out of Meesen and Spencer. The jury is still out on Meesen in my opinion.
  24. And what is the relevance of this? Read the bloody thing properly. It says "one of the worst teams of the past decade". He doesn't say that we are the worst team over the past decade. Based on our performance in the first 6 rounds, he was dead right.
  25. Spot on Ash. The title of this thread totally misconstrues the point of the article.
