We need our forwards to hold position and when we get it in there actually apply some half decent pressure. Vince and Wagner showing how to play these conditions. We crack in and negate to the first and second stoppage well but their big bodies then win the third or fourth and clear it. Vandenberg and Kennedy have been quiet I would push them both into the midfield rotation.

Sounds like this will create some pressure on those playing tomorrow if they don't perform. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13

This is what I would have done and do think including is a mistake. O-Mac I have been supporter of, he has improved each week, but they are not tall and the conditions call for an extra runner not a light tall. -
It is quite rare to have a player with such line breaking speed and evasion who also has decent height and potential to build an engine. Also the more he is playing at this level the better he is getting at finding the ball and balancing defensive and offensive actions. Has the tools to be anything in 2-3 years.

CASEY SCORPIONS v COLLINGWOOD VFL

All I know is I watched a game where two teams played in the same conditions and one smacked the other because they went harder, ran harder, were cleaner and played to the conditions. Matt Jones only player deserving of mention aside from Keilty from Casey who looks a likely type. -
POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The bolded are the bits I find as group think not those that want him out but the consistent justification that he is easily outbodied and outpositioned. If I had the time I would love someone to look at how many contests he has been in Brisbane, Port, Hawthorn and what % he has actually lost. I think this is one of those cases where one or two stick out (not surprising for a 19 year old) and then it appears he loses a lot. -
Was sitting at that end, he was out on his feet. Dunn would have been 30 metres off that contest. I am amazed how many don't get that Dunn is not capable of playing the style of defence we are trying to implement. He is good one on one but does not get to enough contests and struggles to know when to come off his man. This is not about development with Oscar, he is the best current option for what we are trying to implement. That may change if they play Frost there as well.

The calling for O-Mac to be dropped is one of the best examples of group think I have seen. Wont happen. Played well. I would drop Harmes for best performed at Casey.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 11

He won the ball and then played dumb football in the wet. Handballing to players under more pressure than himself and short passing to players in poor positions.I found him very frustrating today unlike Tyson and Vince who showed how you play the conditions. -

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11

We gave it a good crack but was simply outclassed and outrun in the last. Tyson best game I can recall. Frost looked a lot better back as did we with him there. Expect we will get them next time with Viney and a bit more experience. -
Its drizzling constantly not bucketing which will make it slippery but not necessarily continual stoppages. I can just see them kicking it long and the ball sliding out the back to Rioli, Breust and Puopolo all day.
-
I have always believed that the rain (unless bucketing) brings the class and skill to the top. I dispute whether this is better for us than them.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 11

Excellent changes as far as player and type. We actually appear to have a more balanced structure. However Vandenberg after limited games is a worry with Oliver who struggles to play major mid minutes and Trengove who has not played at the level for some time. Can see us struggling to run out the game. I am also somewhat surprised one of Kent or Harmes did not also get the chop. -
Out Viney (inj), Garland (inj), Harmes, ANB In Oliver, Grimes, Dawes, Trengove

I know everyone says we need a plan B. How many sides in the AFL switch to or have a plan B? Maybe they have reactive tweak to an opposition plan ie: man up their 7th back but so much time is spent ingraining plan A and making it natural that switching it off is easier said than done. Our plan A relies on at a minimum halving the contest and creating good forward pressure. Both were down yesterday. I have no issue with the plan aside from a preference that we leave one man as an anchor back (preferably someone with some speed) to stop the easy 2-3 out the back goals we saw yesterday.
-
In: Frost, Grimes, Trengove, Oliver, Dawes Out: O-Mac, Garland, Newton, ANB, Kent
-
They averaged 29 more games than us per player last week but lets not let that get in the way of your point. The amount of players under 30 games we are playing will always provide variation of performance week to week.
-
Tyson missing from your list?
-
Or maybe we are very young and still learning the balance of defence and attack? Maybe we're not quite as good as supporters/media say when we win and not as bad as supporters say when we lose like today. What do you think? Where do you think we have we improved and where do we need to improve immediately to push further up the ladder?
-
Disappointing game, never really gave ourselves a chance at it. Too many looked flat or ahead of themselves. Out: ANB, Newton, Harmes In: Oliver, Trengove, Dawes Tyson and Kennedy only play if 100% which neither obviously were today.
