Just focus on our attack on ball, man and spread and the win and % will look after itself. It would be very easy for a young side to take in the plaudits of this week and already have an eye on Geelong (as some on here have) or focus on winning big rather than the process of winning. Another good test for our senior leaders to lead the way.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
After 3 years I am amazed that some still don't understand Roos and selection. Harmes was never getting dropped after the mark and hit in the middle of the ground. I do not expect to win tomorrow but I have a weird feeling and excitement to see so much of our future playing as one. I have an engagement party with the wife in Geelong tomorrow night and have told the wife I will meet her down there after the train ride from the G. -
POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 19

I have moved from last year keep him at all costs to being neither here nor there on his potential departure. Has only had a handful of games this year that have delivered close to expectations. Lots of cheap ball at wing and half back to then hang onto it too long to turn it over or kick it to a contest. Cant recall the last time inside 50 where he gave multiple leads. -

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 19

Worst overall game of football I have seen in fair weather that I can recall. Can someone smarter than me explain why we commenced the last quarter with Watts playing in defence. More so when Hogan was off ground. -

Melbourne Demons (Women's Team)

I just jumped on to say the same. We were always going to take Pearce but at 28 years old then taking our second marquee as a 31 year old makes no sense. -
Good post. I do struggle that you say its based on this year and then have Salem 11 spots higher than Matt Jones and also Lumumba at 22. I feel N Jones is slightly too high (would have Jetta and T-Mac ahead). If it were a school yard pick for 3 year deals what your change your first 22 in order be?

Not the same tools but has the right technical attributes to be a quality player. Has kicked 3 goals on 4 occasions this year which underlines he has ability. Is an excellent set shot kick and moves extremely well for a 200 cm player. Its all in his head and as a free agent would be worth the risk/reward for a position we clearly don't have covered.

I understand that. But if thats the case then they should play him in the same role at Casey. He can add speed and carry on the wings which aside from Stretch and M Jones we lack. He played there in spurts early on when his form was stronger and I would like to see us trial it again when he comes back in.
-
I did not see the Casey game but can some advise if Kennedy played midfield like last time he dominated at Casey or forward where he flails at AFL level. If the former I would like to see him brought in and rotated in the same role.

The arguments against Tyrone aren't dissimilar to Watts until 12 months ago. Has the tools, is inconsistent in application and is a confidence player who has shown moments when you think the penny has dropped. Is exactly the type of player we need and would not cost in trade as Free Agent. Under free agent I would be well open to it and back our development in.

Poor turnover but how many did he repel today. Kennedy took 2 marks for the game. -

Effort will only get you so far. You've got to take your chances. We need to win one of these games and I think then the dam will break. Just gutted we cant get one over the line. -
Cracking in hard, working our asses off but wet conditions not helping good execution into 50. Expect as it dries they will take over but lets see how far we can take it to them.
-
It's a ground where you need the courage to run and the ability to hit up targets. We don't have the cattle with the engine or the will or the skill. We should win the contests but unsure if there will be enough contests to matter. Expecting it could get ugly.

Major Shortcomings still unresolved
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
The issue isn't leg speed, the issue is mature leadership. Leg speed is overrated, its speed of ball movement and execution that is important. Our speed of ball movement looked fine in the first but that and our execution went to water under pressure in the second. Why? Because we lack mature leadership on the ground that can rally and coach mid quarter to change momentum of a game. No disrespect but Jones is not a natural leader or on field general, he has done his best to lead with his work ethic as the closest option we have had. We do not have mature players to direct us out of situations or that demand the follow me attitude of the great leaders (although Viney is on the way). NB: Blind Freddy should be able to see our improvement not just in where we are wins and % at this time of year but in game style and list (which is still the youngest on the park week in week out). -
Does not have the skill or engine to be a first up mid. Lacks the aggression and impact he had as a high half forward last year. Will be good depth next year.
