No disrespect to Brad but unless your name is James McDonald I do not want anyone with MFC connections brought back to our club.

Roos has stated he wants players that run hard both ways. End of conversation.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to timmyo64's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was at the game in the Olympic Room last night I wore my MFC scarf with pride over dinner and Mike Sheahan had his MFC tie on at the next table. If I had a $ for every "I can't believe you guys got Roosy" comment last night I could pay our shortfall in gate receipts for 2013. -
We just need to convince Adams that MFC is his club of choice we can then play hardball for an unders trade or take him with PSD 2. Our priority pick should be used for the best offer we can get for it and the other used on fresh talent. Roos was a genius at turning others teams players like Kennedy, McGlynn, Richards, Shaw into seriously good players. He now has a whole list with a few exceptions of underperformers to get the most out of.

Unless they land a senior gig this year I expect it will be one of Tudor or Simpson but would hope that Bickley is in the mix as well. I don't rate Vossy (as his wife calls him) I think he comes across a bit of a [censored] and doubt he would listen to anyone but himself. Would love to see any of Micky O, Junior or Simon Black at the club in some capacity next year.

That press conference was insane. He just has an aura around him that makes you believe without sounding like a salesman. I love how he directly spoke about the captaincy situation with respect to the players and also directly hitting up Watts and Sylvia. Also dangling the carrot of the picks for players to see what bites. If he does that to a supporter you can imagine what that does to a player. I am going to the game tonight and will wear my MFC scarf at the G with pride probably for the first time in a long time. -

How long til someone starts the Sack Paul Roos thread..... I didn't know how I'd feel until it was done but I believe this is the best I have felt about our club in 38 years as a supporter. -
That is a ridiculous effort from a kid in Hogan to get 11 votes in half a season of actual game time. I rate Hallahan and hope we are having a look at him.

My 3 word player analysis V The Bulldogs
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Howe is a seriously lazy footballer who makes dumb decisions with the ball. I would look to trade to fix our midfield issues but it wont happen. -
We could not get a clearance yet we did not put our best clearance player in the middle. Has that happened at any point this year?
-
For a whole quarter?
-
I have not scoured the match day thread but can someone explain why Nathan Jones was played across half forward and then half back in the second quarter?
-
6. Grimes (only 4 quarter performance) 5. Garland (obvious to me he was playing on one leg) 4. Davey (second half turned back the clock) 3. Watts 2. Trengove 1. Dunn

Fridays is just something to get it down on paper. The 22 don't have to start in their allotted positions. Pre-game the interchange must be the commencing bench for the start of the match.
-
No changes to either side. Tappy the sub.

Great read. Selwood is contracted until the end of 2015 so would be close to impossible to get. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just so we get pick 1 and are forced to take the freak that is Boyd rather than the midfielders we actually need. That would be just our luck -
My question would be is he an upgrade on Magner, Couch, Bail, Nicholson, Jetta, McKenzie et al.. If so and he is available worth a look. Just because he is low in the queue with Nths contested ball winners doesn't mean he would be high in ours.

Cultural change does not happen overnight. Sometimes you have to go along way back to go forward. This season has been far the worst on the park I have ever seen but we have reached the tipping point in the cultural change. Points like this from Dawes and Clark are what the top clubs do. Its not about doing whats expected its about going beyond. Nathan Jones and Garland typify this as well. Comments made by Viney, Hogan and Toumpas show the new guard will do whatever it takes to get the most out of themselves. Grimes and Trengove actions off field have made them captains and I expect once the shackles of captaincy are removed as most expect next year we will see this translate on field. We are getting a nucleus of players who provide perception that doing whats expected is not enough, that being just competitive is not good enough either. Whilst I believe they are both very talented I believe we may be best served by seeing the back of Watts and Sylvia who from the outside do not appear to typify this culture. I am confident that with another strong draft and trade period to back up last years acquisitions and this cultural shift that things will turn quicker than we think.

Welcome to 2104: How it should begin

Footy will be played on hoverboards finally -
Having re-watched the first half Toumpas had 10 handballs, 8 which were clearly effective freeing a man into space. He handballed once under pressure to Trengove which resulted in no turnover and a 50/50 he pushed out to Garland which we took the ball away from the play. He had 3 kicks all were moving the ball forward. None were direct clangers as all went to 50/50's but one was taken away from the contest for a score for Adelaide (4 possessions in the chain later). Outside of his possessions he got caught taking the game on in the first half which cost us a goal. So he had 13 touches in the first half 8 that clearly put us in a more attacking position, 4 that had no direct negative impact and one which cost a goal 4 possessions later in a scoring chain. He was clearly our most effective player in the first half and these so called possessions selling others into trouble and his slow decision making seem to be figments of peoples imagination. Will have a look at the second half when I get a chance.

Seething about this group of players
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
The good sides are still led by a core group of quality 25+year old players and supported by a bevy of improving 21+ year old players. Our issue has been that Junior aside we have had a dearth of leadership for the past 6 years and now only have a small group of quality mid 20 year olds in Jones, Frawley, Garland, Clark and Dawes who are worthy of leading. Our improving 21+ year olds have either left ie: Scully, have not shown the level of expected improvement i.e: Trengove, Grimes, Watts etc... have been complete misses ie: Cook, Gysberts or due to poor choice, circumstance or lack of development appear to not be of the quality required ie: Tapscott, Strauss, Blease etc.... I am confident that the players in that mid 20s group whilst not being the most talented have the right work ethic and values to push the others below them and set the right tone going forward. I am confident that the players that we have drafted last year in Viney, Hogan, Toumpas, Kent, Terlich and Jones have the right level of committment, hardness and competitive animal to want to get the best out of themselves. Both these bode well for our longer term success if we build on this again at the draft this year. However how rapid our improvement comes from is heavily reliant on our actions over the preseason and what a new coach can do to improve the middle tier who have not come on. -
Yes that was his worst game I can recall but what does painfully, slow, poor decisions and weak in the body have to do with leadership. NB: He has looked like he lost significant body mass since coming back from his shoulder.
-
I usually respect peoples opinion but you obviously did not watch the game or have absolutely no idea. He was easily our most effective and creative player today and to my recollection went backwards twice and only after looking for options forward of the ball. He is one of few players that disposes the ball flat and to where the player should be rather than where they are or behind them. He has been up and down this year but today he was excellent.
-
There was basically no pressure coming through the middle of the ground. Frawley and T-Mac did not have great games today though and were both well beaten.
