In his first two years Trengove moved like Dal Santo now he doesn't its either he is injured or too heavy in the legs. You don't just suddenly become treacle for no reason. Had been much improved the last couple of weeks but was poor yesterday.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 13
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 Garland 5 Sylvia 4 Spencer 3 TMac 2 Watts 1 Clisby -
Was the best brand of footy we have played in goodness knows how long. Our spread was still rubbish as was our execution but the style was there. Garland, Sylvia, Tmac and Watts were excellent. Byrnes and Pederson appalling. Look forward to seeing us build on it next week.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

It doesn't standout as much because his DE has been above league average every round he had played. But lets not let stats get in the way. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lets sack the coach...Spencer has been killing it at VFL and is more ready to play first ruck in the AFL than Gawn is. -
Boyd from the highlights I have seen looks great. If he becomes a 30 possession inside and outside running machine by the time of the draft I would take him without a thought.
-
did you not read where I said I could understand him getting a game ahead of McKenzie?
-
I mentioned in another thread recently that at VFL level against Essendon McKenzie had 44 touches. There is a vast difference with form and how it translates at the next level. I asked Neil Craig recently if our focus is on contested ball, stoppages and tackles why neither of them were getting a game. His response was whilst both were ok in those areas they had work to do on their spread and with their ball use. I dont understand the reference to Toumpas as they are different type players however I could understand if you wondered why Jordie and Rodan received games ahead of them. Toumpas showed enough last game as to why we need to develop him in the team and not at VFL where his form allows.

2014 off-season will be huge (list management)
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Number 2's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is limited likelihood Magner or Couch will be retained. I am pretty sure returning through the VFL against Essendon at Windy Hill McKenzie dominated with over 40 disposals. This probably highlights the difference between the two levels. -
Being that the interview with Misson on the website he says they think Dawes will play against StKilda with Chip a chance but Viney still 2-3 weeks away then yes they are a bit out.
-
He played on Sidebottom all day who had 19 touches. In saying this I would still drop him. We lose too much drive with him through the middle. I dont agree with playing kids for kids sake. By the looks of the Casey report it was a win driven by Magner, Couch, Hogan and Byrnes. Not exactly a list filled with available youngsters. StKilda and Dogs are winnable games and we should put our best possible side on the park. I do think Clisby is a sneaky to be upgraded though as has had good form and by all reports has toe and can hit a target. Assuming Chip, Viney and Dawes play (big ask) would go with the below. Out Dunn, Tapscott, Rodan and McKenzie In Frawley, Byrnes, Viney and Clisby.

POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11

Poor fitness base (already quoted that our list is at about 70% of required conditioning this year). Lack of games in our mid field unit. Just learning what a decent work rate looks like. -

POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I dont necessarily agree with you. Our work rate and defensive intent to me has clearly improved. Its our disposal particularly as we tire that is poor. We have played sides that put you to the sword when you turn the ball over. I don't see StKilda and Western as sides that will make you pay on the turn over. -
POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We looked ok when we ran with the Pies in the first and our disposal held up. We looked poor when we could no longer run with the Pies 5 minutes into the second and our disposal deteriorated as we tired. Watts worked harder and attacked the ball in the first like I have never seen before but he was stuffed by quarter time. If he keeps that work rate up he will significantly improve. Good games by Terlich and M Jones once again. Good improvement from Toumpas and Pederson. Garland tried valiantly but I cant see how when your opponent has 13 marks you can be your sides best player. Keen to see how we go against some of the lesser sides post bye. Shame it will probably be without Frawley, Clark, Grimes, Viney and possibly Dawes. -
THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
People need to stop looking at how skinny a kid is and look at how they win the footy. It would also be good if people who comment on threads such as these actually make it clear whether they have actually seen a player play that they comment on or are just an expert based on reading big footy. I could not care how good Boyd looks with Clark, Dawes and Hogan we need nothing more than mids. If people want us to not take the best kids and trade for established players it would be good if they could give examples as to the pick we have who they think may be achievable. Its then easier to rate how good the drugs are they are on. -
I dont understand this. An extended salary cap is best for clubs who cant afford to pay their premium list. This would force us to over pay players who dont deserve it. It also assumes out of contracts or free agents will leave purely for money to struggling clubs. If anything give us the priority pick which will then with a low draft position gives us bargaining power at the trade table or at worst the ability to pick a premium youngster (assuming we dont bugger it up).
-
And your point? We have played most of the year without 4 of our best 5, cut away experience in Moloney, Rivers etc.... and mature deadwood in Bate, Petterd etc.... Makes it alot harder to judge whether we have improved at all. Playing Davis this week would be worse than debuting a young 18 year old key position on Queens Birthday. Sellar is good one on one. If Cloke gets on his bike up the ground then let him. Pederson to take Q.Garland to Elliot.
-
Why. The easiest thing to do would have been to bay to media and supporter unrest. It would also be wrong to put out a limp statement that he is safe when in fact he may be gone in 4 weeks. It appears we have taken stock to ensure the right decisions are made. Doubt this would have happened 6 weeks ago. Being that his normal 30 minute board presentation went for 90 I would think he is clear in the expectations on him to retain his role or where its at. Just because it didn't happen today doesn't mean that things haven't occurred.
-
Most last year probably would have said Frawley, Clark, Grimes and T-Mac were in our top 5 players with Jones. There's alot of truth in its not the number of injuries but who they're to. Would nice at least at some stage in the second half of the year to get our best 18 on the park together.
-
You have highlighted the key point here. It is not the number of losses it is the number of big losses. 50% of Neeld games we have lost by 8 goals or greater. That is the damning bit.
-
I believe Dunn for most of the game, Terlich for some parts.

It was a good piece of play. Unsure what that has to do with the criteria I set but agree it was a good piece of play. -

Why? Show me footage of him attacking a contest or chasing more than half paced and I will happily retract.
