We need hard running mids which neither are. Both have elements that another clubs might consider as useful and think they can develop them.

We took Sylvia and McLean because they were ultra competitive contested ball monsters. How did that work out? As you said our midfield is third world inside and out. Get the best rounded player regardless of their current size. Just get it right.

So in what is being stated as a reasonably weak draft where the consistently named most talented mids are Aish, Kelly, Billings you want us to pick someone later just cos? Pick the best rounded if that's Freeman or Crouch great if not go with the skinny kid who will mature into the best balanced mid and develop him properly.

Then if he is out of contract and he chooses us you leverage the PSD to get him for a late pick if any at all.

Who are our abundance of outside mids? Who says he is outside only? Not saying he is the right choice but getting sick of this "you're either inside or outside" or skinny at 18 means you'll never win a contested ball. Just pick the best rounded mid and back to develop them accordingly.

Anyone that thinks we will be able to convince West Coast to give Shuey up for less than pick 2 is kidding themselves. Values change when someone is still in contract. 15 of 21 games in 2012 and 9 of 13 before injury in 2013 were 23 possession+ games. A 60/40 kick to handball split confirms he has a good balance of inside and outside. He averages more than 4 tackles a game and just under a goal a game. That is a strong all round package and is a smart target that will be worthwhile of the pick if we can pull it off.

But what is Howe? Do you think Fitzpatrick would have close to Howe's value? I rate Howe's skill set I just dont thinks it will be the difference. I think if you're not a pure mid or a key tall then in mind your surplus and worth shopping to fix our third world midfield. I dont think it will happen but I wouldn't discount it either.

I agree with the thought of floating the trading of Howe to get what we need. People need to see this not as having a go at Howe but recognising that he is a quality player who will have value (just as most on here see). With Clark, Dawes, Hogan, Fitz he is a nice to have and forward surplus to fix our immediate requirement which is to get a quality midfield. If people have confidence that he is more than a goal kicking half forward flank and can become a true mid then I understand but he is a legitimate option in the right deal in my mind. NB: People that say we cant do this because of his marketability need to understand that people will come to see us win games moreso than the occasional spectacular mark.

Good result for Watts and club. Agree with the intent to make him a mid. He should aim to become our Nate Fyfe.

If in 2 years time GWS win 3 games for the year do they deserve a priority pick or does the potential age and development of their list come into consideration. I think its a fair and reasonable argument there is a difference between a young inexperienced list who win 2-4 games and an aging list who bottom out.I would have loved the leverage a pick would have given us but actually prefer we have to take the hard road this time.

If Hill was getting a game ahead of me I would want to be looking elsewhere.

Kennedy and McGlynn proves sometime they get it wrong. I rate Savage, he is exactly the type of fringe mid we should be targetting.

12 of his 16 games this year he had 20+ possessions. In fact he averaged 21 possessions and 3 tackles a game. He shows a good inside and out balance and has a bit of mongrel and skill about him. All coming into a third year when most players start to blossom.

Whats he done to suggest he's not? Isn't he two years into a career wher he was injured for the first year?

Too much risk with pick 2. Get him to want to come to us and push him to the PSD.

If Paul Roos was not coach and new coach x was talking about picking up Jolly particularly after the fantastic success of our mature age players this year he would be howled down on this site. I dont think its a good idea unless it is a Ben Hudson set up and it is clear he is there as absolute back up and to mentor and nothing more.

Kirk was a heart and sold player but not one that when I have heard him speak or commentate lends himself to understanding the strategic sides of the game that is required by your senior coach. Good addition but think as annointed successor would be a stretch.

Roos was never known for playing true small forwards more so hard nosed mids that could play the role ie McGlynn. Pass for mine.

Best of luck to all players who to my knowledge gave their all, appear of decent character and achieved what most of us can only dream of and played at the highest level and more importantly for our great club. All wise decisions but this thread should not be one for bagging player.
