  1. Slightly different post on Friday Training. I live too close to Vic Park, a place where I walk my dog and let him defecate on the Filths Soil ( I do pick it up). Today the "Homeless Bummers" were training there - this is their new training venue until Tullamarine gets up and running. At 10:30 they all went inside to hit the showers. It was warm but no warmer than our training on Wednesday at Casey. I don't know if they were tapering off for Xmas but the efforts were pretty pathetic. And some of the set plays they were practising, my god they wont trouble the scoreboard much this year. Their intensity throughout their session was no more than 50% of the training our boys have been doing. I actually came home with a smirk on my face.

  2. I think we are stretching it now. As if he would pick a player they don't want, because we do. Really!

  6. Thanks guys. Looking forward to seeing the new kids on the block in 2012. You know....Maloney, Fitzgerald, Bleeze, Pettard, Trengrove and see what coach Nark Meeld has to offer....

  7. Howdy folks, I went out this morning and had a look at the session. Did seem like 3 * 1km time trials. The squad was split into 3 groups of about 10 each, the first group as mentioned by Swooper was led well by Nicholson and JT right on his tail. Standouts in the other groups were Joel Mac killing it in group 2, Dunn and Green behind him. Mitch Clark was a good performer in the last group, sharing honours with Fitzgerald who seems to run well for a big man, he sorta lopes along. Bail, Petterd and LJ were running together but didn't do the full program. Few other observations were that Davey really was struggling, hard to tell what was wrong with him but he was looking proppy and certainly alongway from the speedster we loved in previous seasons, hope he can make some improvements and show his worth to the side. Col Sylvia was running along again, and seemed to be doing a better pace than Monday. Grimes was also gaining speed and looking more impressive. Late arrivals to main session group were McKenzie, Spencer and Tapscott. I asked Tapscott when he was likely to join the main group and he hoped just after Xmas but didn't ascertain reason for being out of full training. Noticed no Watts today, wonder if it was just a day off. Post running they did some group drills and some match simulation, the coaches running the show from various stoppage positions, making the players run to new spot on group to contest, a lot of running on and off the ground with like for like players. Mitch Clark and Stef Martin kicked one or two that I noticed. That's it for today. Cheers

  8. Are you talking about the label on the weights or the label on Scully ?

  9. I honestly understand why we are still talking about this. I have little idea why there is a picture of this bloke though...

  10. lol @ that article. Is that for real? Wanting to find out who'd win if Scully sat out? Hey genius, how about the guy that comes 2nd to Scully, I reckon he might be the one.

  12. He always has a great big smile, whoever he is with. Ever noticed that ? The man has a heart many would envy. Many times I have heard him say, "you've got to keep on going", "you can't give up", "I want to make a difference", when he has spoken of his football career on reflection when younger, mostly referring to himself and what made him strive further when he faced challenges. In particular, as always comes to mind in one of Jim's quotes is - "Whatever it takes". Truly, Jim Stynes is one of - if not the most - remarkable stories in sport, ever. To have come from Ireland, embark on taking up a foreign code, on the other side of the world, tens or hundreds of thousands of kilometres away from family. And not just participate at the highest level, but succeed and dominate for a while in a long football career in Australian Rules...is...unbelievably legendary. Like many Melbourne supporters I have been fortunate to have met him. On one occassion was at the launch of Dublin Jim after his 91' Brownlow season. I was one of the last to leave and waited until he made his way around the room taking the time to thank everyone. Which of course, he did. Like mentioned before in this thread, in conversation, he took an interest in others and on this occassion it was me. At the time of the launch he genuinely took an interest of me as a supporter and what was next on the horizon for me, having just finished high school (VCE back then; the HSC equivalent). I'll never forget that. Nor will I the previous time we briefly met up at Mt Buller. It was the year after '87 and Jim was being fitted up for some skii's. I felt for him back then, but you could tell he was well driven and very positive then. And given the circumstances of what happened in '87 and since that day it's been a remarkable and amazing journey to follow him as a supporter. And may the journey continue... From the time he pulled on a football boot, to the time he crossed the mark, to see his improvement and domination of '91 and winning the Brownlow, all of his playing days and Presidential days - he has faced challenges and has been resilient with a terrific attitude, strong character, to fight for what's best and to be the best you can be. Whatever it takes, Jim.

  13. shared captaincy is not captaincy. The responsibility is halved. A brilliant idea at St.Fail but please not at the MFC.

  14. Not necessarily. It does mean though that victorian clubs such as the MFC have to improve in all areas of contract negotiations both GC $un$ and GW$ will not have bottomless salary caps forever. If i was Nought Melbourne or Footscray i would be feeling a little vulnerable.

  15. Yep. I liked his game and his nature. But am saddened that he couldn't find the taste for the disciplines to go on. I hope he succeeds in what ever he chooses.
