Robbos final straw

Featured Replies

Apparently he has been quoted on It Takes Two saying " Kicking a goal on the MCG doesnt compare to the feeling of being out on stage".

Has he completely lost the plot? I think we have a real problem with this so called "leader".

God help the MFC and all of its players. God help them.

And god damn you Robbo.

Idiot.

More like keep him on the show and get him off the field. It's obvious what his true passion is.

Did a great job just before with a Jackson 5 song.

I seem to remember Tim Boyle saying that he'd prefer to particpate in the Grand Final pre-game entertainment than play in an AFL premiership side.

Maybe we should paint a microphone on the ball. I am sure he will take a few more marks if he can get his hands on that bloody microphone!

Jackson 5??? How about he goes out and kicks 5!!!!!

he didnt actually say that the woman host said something like that.

He did not.

Get off his case.

Hes doing an extra activity that he loves just like people play golf etc.

This show has had no effect on his playing, our team is playing bad and they are not singing.

yeh get off his bloody case. He said the feelings of singing a song and kicking a goal on the mcg were 'different' thats all. You all sound pathetic and looking for something trivial to hang ur hats on. He has been a great servant of our club and he isn't in form. WOW! an age-ing player that isn't in form...it's not that uncommon geez.

Robbo is the only half decent positive press we are getting at the minute........let's cut him some slack.

I doubt his success on the show has led to any extra memberships going by our numbers so whats the point? It definitely isnt helping his footy or the team.

But is it really hindering it? And if it were, would it matter, given how crap we are anyway? Give the guy a break.

Ok guys I am a massive fan of Robbo and the excitement machine that he has been. But unfortunately the game has passed him by.

I salute him in a non-gay non-sailor fashion for the entertainment he has provided for me on the football field.

I for one hopes he wins the competition and therefore decides to bail on his next year of his contract thus allowing himself to chase his dream of being a rock star and freeing up a spot for another younger star of the future to take his place.

Do it for the team Robbo.

Apparently he has been quoted

So, from this do I assume the quote is correct because I am worried about the rider implied in your use of "apparently"?

You guys let Robbo off the hook so easily.

The game has not passed him by, he is just playing selfish sh!t football.

He's kicked 8 goals in 4 games and alot of them have been rubbish. He has had 4 'one percenters' and 6 tackles in 4 games - that is pathetic.

His head is all over the place at the minute, and his venturing down into the backline to find a kick hurts more than it helps.

He should be doing more and playing better.

Full stop.

Robbo going down into the backline was part of the game strategy last year and is part of all the players doing more in a team sense - instead of just staying on FF line. Part of same plans that have Carroll and Rivers pushing right up to half forward line and having shots on goal. So not valisd to critisize him for that.

Is fair critcism that Robbo has been trying to take marks and losing his feet too often on 1 on 1 contests when needed to stay in the contest. Particularly so when lack of crumbers in the forward line.

Robbo and Neita both lost pace cos of their knee injuries last year and that is hurting on rebounds.

The other thing that has hurt them both is the total cr## delivery into the forward line. At least 6 - 10 kicks directly to the opponents 20 mtrs clear from any MFC players and same number of kicks landed a metre or 2 short of them.

Also apparent in other games too - the excessive handballs between half back and wing with run and carry and multiple switches is making it impossible for leading forwards to anticipate when to break.

Note that in last qtr on Satruday when MFC changed to longer kicking game the MFC straightened up and delivery was better and more marks and goals resulted.

That being said both Robbo and Neita will need to be ommitted by mid year based on current contributions. No goals between them to 3/4 time on Saturday. Robbo will survive in short term cos he is our main goal kicker for the year and Newton is not impressing at Zebs!

Well said

Robbo, he can delight, and frustrate...

As far as his personality goes he's a fun loving extroverted heterosexual.

Only message that I [and many others] would like to get through to him...stay on your god-damned-feet

Because if he does he will probably kick 4-5 goals a week, and at a time when MFC are hopefully still in the contest.

Has he tried a 'break dance' yet?

Or does he save that flailing around on the ground for when he is wearing Red and Blue?

Perhaps he should try the Salmon Song next - cos that's what he looks like most of the time - one that's been landed.

thanks mods! that's much better

Look i for one really don't see the problem. Players need outlets, and this is a much healthier one than pubbing. It's the only positive media press we are getting at the moment - I work with kids and can tell you he is pretty much the only player they know from melbourne because of the show and they love him for it. Not to mention the fact that he has always sung during the week, through the bad weeks and the good ones so i think much of this is an over-reaction, and not an original one either

I had lunch with a die-hard demon member today (I am one as well).

Topic: "did you see Robbo on It takes Two..."

If it comes to this, then I would rather remember how he would take a speccie probaly once a match, but that's about it.

Players need to recognise when their time is up. Some do, but most don't and it's really sad.

Does the word dignity ring a bell when referenced to retirement.

The future lies elsewhere, but unfortunately dollars speak louder.

Dean Bailey - i'm relying on you to make the big calls soon.

Could this not have fitted in with any of the other 7 "robbo on it takes two" threads?

Could this not have fitted in with any of the other 7 "robbo on it takes two" threads?

fair point, except i didn't see them when i posted, and in any caae they are all about what he did and didn't say on the show.

Who gives a rats.

I'm about dignityin the twiligth of one's career.

Then again, if i was on megabucks, maybe I'd stay till they tiurned out the lights.

Let's not be precious about this..

We need re-building and if your not in the mix then move on.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
