MFC Vs Geelong

I know its a while till we get the official team for the tough task of facing the Cats at their stadium this week, but i thought i would start a thread early.

How many changes does everyone think there will be for this game?

Will Bails continue with Weetra and Garland?

Will another senior player get dropped? Will Yze come back in?

Moloney, Petterd, Bate, Rivers Whelan to return?

Discuss :)

GO DEES! :)

In: Yze, Rivers, Maric

Out: Weetra, Garland, Davey (if he doesn't pull up)

Interesting choice in Yze...did he have a blinder at Sandy?

INS:

Addam Maric - The excitment machine to make his debut. Forward pocket to replace Weetra.

Adem Yze - I know you'll all rubbish me on this one, but me thinks Bailey dropped him for just 1 week to see if he could get a reponse. Played well for Sandy and will return.

Sir Jared Rivers - God we need him!

Brent Moloney - Always plays well against Geelong without fail!!

OUTS:

Weetra - Un AFL like

Garland - Struggled in first 2 rounds and must be punished for the 2 passes from JMAC when he waited for the ball to come to his lap.

Davey - Injured

Jace Bode - Will never make it.

------------------------------

I really don't want to put the young kids in Weetra, Garland and Bode down, but I believe we'll be far more competitive with them out of the side.

Not by any stretch of the imagiantion but he got a lot of the footy and was putting his head over the ball (in context with how he usually tries to do this). These reasons alone lead me to believe that he will be selected. Whether I agree with it or not is a different matter.

OUT

Garland - Don't see it, whatever it is, I don't see it.

Davey - Injured

Miller - 93 games of stagnation.

Bode - Petterd's better.

IN

Newton - Someone's got to play FF next year.

Rivers - It's Jared Rivers.

Petterd - He's a talent, don't know the story there.

Frawley - Need help down back and Miller isn't the answer long term, he isn't even the short term answer.

AND

Bate for Sylvia if he's right, but probably not.

Thanks BBP, forgot about Bode, needs to go to Sandy.

Whelan needs another 1 or two weeks to get up to full-fitness but their where good signs for him last Sunday against Casey.

IN

Newton - Someone's got to play FF next year.

Disagree. Agree with you that we need a FF but I thought Juice was ordinary at best against Casey last week. Looks like he was having a tough day in the windy conditions but on the performance I wouldn't think he woulf warrant selection this week.

You're keeping Weetra?

I would be very surprised if Miller was dropped. I would be surprised if Yze came back.

Its about character, commitment and discipline to follow team rules. Yze???

Weetra is not going to be dropped with Davey injured, simple as that.

And yes, at the moment he does not look that accomplished.

Why not try Maric instead?

Exactly RR. Bailey will stick strong with those that follow the team rules over those that don't. Which is why we won't see Moloney, Newton or Petterd this week and I doubt we'll see Yze again for quite a while if at all. I'd love to see Riv get back in and this week is when he was scheduled to return. If wheels has pulled up OK he may come back in as well. I have a feeling Bate will get a run with Sandy first. So for me:

In: Rivers and Whelan

Out: Davey (inj) and Garland

Weetra survives for one more week.

A smokey to debut- Stefan Martin ;)

EDIT: Actually i would really like Frawley to come in also, i think it will help if he comes in the same time as rivers.

Agree with that Bailey likes Miller and will give him every opportunity.

If he brings Yze back what does that tell him? It tells him that if he gets dropped it will only be for a week at a time.

Weetra is also a favourite at the moment and will probably get another week.

Petterd, Moloney and Rivers, if available, should be in and if possible Frawley, we need to know if he is up to it.

Yze only played the 1st round because Sylvia, Bate, Dunn and Bartram were unavailable. He was not there on merit. He showed in the pre season what he was good for. He confirmed it against the Hawks. His gamestyle and attitude is a compromise of every one of Bailey's principles.

IMO he's gone for good bar injuries and extraordinary happenings. If he is not back by Rd 6 you can assume that the next time Yze will be on the MCG will be next year pre match propped up in an open top car with his kids doing a slow lap of the ground with well wishers waving their Red & Blue scarves saying "He was still good for another year."

Davey's injury and Moloney and Petterd's petulance has probably saved Weetra another week.

I hope not, I'd rather see another kid like Maric come in for weetra, he has show so little, i have not even seen anything that makes me think we will make it as a afl footballer.

People are kidding themselves if they think Yze is going to play and Miller won't.

Yze is done. Time to let go.

In: Rivers, Bate, Petterd/Frawley

Out: Davey, Bode, Weetra

Garland stays in? He has been nothing short of hopeless.

Garland stays in? He has been nothing short of hopeless.

Garland stays in because I don't tend to give up on tall, athletic players after 3 outings.

Leave the team unchanged, except Davies if he is unfit. let them all know this is there crunch game, do you want to play for Melbourne or not. Then next week drop anyone who does not follow the game plan etc. PS no point putting the kids to the sword at Geelong.

We need Rivers, Whelan, Holland ins.

Outs - Green, Wheatley & anyone else who won't contest the footy, or put their head down over the ball.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
