Cale Morton - clearly our best player in his second game, his more experienced team mates should be embarassed.

daylight

Paul Johnson - well he is better than the insipid White

Nathan Caroll - at least he is prepared to take hits for the team.

and

Harem Scarem with Even at the Corner on Saturday Night. Bailey should get Dr Christopher Marshall to give the pre match address.

Time for Bailey to do what Daniher never did - react to consecutive drubbings by dropping some senior players. White, Green, Bruce, Wheatley....

Morton - Like most of our draftees last few years is light, but that changes quickly. look at dunn now. Hes gonna be GOOD.

Sylvias first quarter - work in close was top notch, but was then moved to the forward line? Puzzled.

Carroll - He was on fire today.

bucks is a superstar, and will be our best player when he learns to kick properly

OMG!

OMFG!

Some of the [censored] that comes out of peoples mouths on this site is unbelievable..... Simon Buckley or "Bucks" as his lovers like to call him, will never be any good!

The boy thinks football is about running around as many opponents as you can and then handballing to a player who is in a worse position....

Or if we get really lucky, he tries to run around 2 or 3 players, beats them, and then shanks a kick out of bounds on the full....

Football is not about drinking 15 cans of red bull before running onto the MCG and leaving your brain in your locker!!!!!

Our best player in the near future will be Morton.... A cross between Robbie Flower and Adam Goodes.... I am excited!

PJ is least stepping up to another level (I wish a few more would take his lead). Junior played his 200th for our club. Morton is going to be a player. We were competitive for about forty minutes - which is about 39 more minutes than we were last week.

woohoo! even found myself barracking for the cats at the end so we aren't the biggest losers of the round, and because it's essendon, but quickly remembered that we will be absolutely mammothed next week. just like we were to be thumped in '05 after a belting from the crows...too big a bow?

Im sorry but there are no positives in a 95 point loss. We all knew Morton would be a gun so that was to be expected.

How did we end up with 38 uncoordinated skilless players with no heart?

buckley will be a damn good footballer. he doesn't need to learn how to kick, he needs to learn how to make better decisions, which he will do when he feels comfortable at this level. i wrapt to see a guy with soo little experience take the game on the way he does. his mistakes are typical of a player who is learning his craft at this level.

Great post. Agree 100%

Cale Morton did well, looked calmer than just one week ago. I like the lad, and oh boy is he going to get opportunites!

Simon Buckley is the replacement for Daniel Ward at this stage - lots of initiative, but...

Still, he has a lot more time to improve than Daniel Ward.

And enough of everyone crapping on Brad Green. He's averaging twenty-one posessions and 3.5 tackles a game, and has been a part of about half of our goals. In fact, he's our second highest scoring player (behind only 'junk-time' Robbo), plus he's our highest goal-assist player. And he's delivering with at least a decent level of accuracy through the midfield. He's also been visibly into it and showing some passion. He even appears to have his radar back when it comes to set shots, when you look at the preseason as well. Could become a valuable half-forward once again.

Jones got his highest ever possession total against the Doggies. Poor bastard. Another two good games and he'll be our next 'captain in waiting' to stew under pressure for a while, like Miller and Mclean both had to deal with. And didn't the hype and attention do those two a world of good. (hint hint)

Nathan Carroll was grimly determined and did well in obscene circumstances. I never quite figured out why people started hating him when he was underperforming last year. Maybe some just like hating fullbacks.

Paul Johnson is looking like a legitimate starting 22 player, and is someone holding up his end even when the team implodes.

Actually, I guess that's the theme of my post - here are six players who have not folded under when it would have been easy to join in the cringe. The rest of the team needs to look at this lot and take note - it's across all ages and levels of experience, and all types of positions.

That's what needs to be focused on - that there are players out there who are not folding, despite being in just the same situation as everyone else who was out there.

What he needs to do is up his work-rate, running hard when the opposition has the ball, both when chasing, and when his man is a potential receiver.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
