Does anyone really thinks we will make the top eight this team could not beat Casey seconds. I watched the match vs north and when the kangs put pressure on our boys, we could not put more then 2 posses together we lost by eight goals but the kangs only put 55 % effort in the last qter. Our best players either cant play or are too old, we just have to face facts this group had its chance they blow it. For three years in a row they where top three at the half way through the season, and fell in a heap 2004 was our best chance and they blow it, with four rounds to go we where top of the ladder 5 weeks later we where blown out by essendon, that was the last chance we have been treading water ever since, we need to do what hawthorn did 5 6 years ago, a clean out trade anyone with any value and retire the old, and miller the game has passed him by he cant kick and cant handball to a man in space only men with two or three opponents on him.

To answer your subject question, yes, I am prepared for a wooden spoon. However, there is a difference between being prepared for something, and anticipating it. A thread was created the other day by someone (I have forgotten who) complaining of negativity amongst Melbourne supporters.

Obviously, there is sufficient grounds for which to base the argument that a wooden spoon is a distinct possibility. As you've outlined, we have experienced players who simply aren't rising to the occasion, and overall, we are crumbling under pressure (as seen Vs. Kangaroos).

All that said, I maintain the view that any member who claims to be able forsee the wooden spoon, is only bringing us one step closer to it in their denuding of our confidence as supporters.

By all means, we should be prepared, but don't envision a wooden spoon; supporters are fundamental to the club, and we must do what we can to ensure we lose as few of them as possible in these difficult times.

i am a member and love the club carlton tanked last year after the 11th round because the deal had already been done between judd and carlton the interview judd gave to the other clubs was a fake just a smoke screen, dont be fooled judd went to carlton because pratt will give him a job at visy at the end.

I am of the opinion that while you hope for the best you prepare for the worst........

If (and despite what happened on the weekend it is still round one, and therefore it is still an 'if' and not a 'when') a spoon does come our way this year then so be it. I hate the thought of it, but that would be our reality so we mourn a truly shitty season, and then prepare for the next one with some top notch new talent.

But I am simply not prepared to concede anything after one match, no matter how bloody awful it was !!!

You're a hero to yourself, aren't you? It's not so much a case of naivety. Most people are realistic enough to know, deep down, that we're in for a vile year. But at least they aren't patting themselves on the back for being so overwhelmingly negative.

Gotta love those inspiring doom and gloom merchants that revel in the "end is nigh" melodramas after 1 round.

It was always going to be a tough year but lets not slash our wrists.
