I was very impressed with Casey fields on the weekend.

Agreed it was my first trip to Casey Fields, and I was mightily impressed with what they've done out there also.

This snippet from that article concerned me though:

The delay in securing the Olympic Park precinct base — it is not expected to be finished until late 2009 or early 2010, and there is still much work to do to finalise a tenancy deal

What? I thought the ink would've long since dried on this deal? Who at the club is responsible for not finalising this?

And we are going to train in Cranbourne?

What a joke

Id suggest the joke is this comment...tsk tsk..

It concerns SUMMER training !! you did read it I take it ?? So instead of nomadic roaming they would have a training base over summer .. How this is a joke is a little beyond my mortal compehensive abilites !!

Posted

Because it is in Cranbourne

Next we will be doing summer training in Wagga Wagga

Posted

So what if its in Cranbourne?? ...many clubs summer train away ..

Besides that its too far to travel for 2-3 training sessions a week, there is also the problem of the players potentially being shot, stabbed or spat on in Cranbourne

Posted

Too far for whom to travel ?? Im sure on 2-300 G a year you can make the effort!!

shot spat and stabbed..!!! well as long as we're keeping this realistic !!! <_<:huh:

Geez, someone has lit a fire under your bum in the past few days YM!

not to but in on your little argument...but the problem the club is facing is probably with melbourne victory who will be using the building a lot during their season (which is our summer pre season)

For the players

As you may recall, the great Gary Lyon had his back flare up on a car ride from Melbourne to Bendigo in 1999, and that was the end of his career

And while I understand he did have a chronic back ailment, do you really want guys Rivers, Moloney, Sylvia, McLean (all with worrying groin/back ailments) spending 3-4 hours a week in the car just to get to and from training

Cranbourne is a stinkhole, bogan infested cess pit. What % of Cranbournians follow the Dees do you reckon? Trust me its no Brighton. More like Brightons a*se hole.

Hey good news is you can still buy real estate down there @ 1970's prices.

ok....lesson 57 in the art of realistic compehension

Garry ( thats two r's ) Lyon had an ailment.. He should not have travelled at all.. Wouldnt have mattered where as a ride agrevated teh problem.. not the destination !!

aww poor diddums ..they cant travel for 3-4 hours a week ??

If they have injuries..the injuries need attention.. Where ever they are they wil have to travel. If playing/not playing comes down to 60-90 mins dif in a car..then we're seriously up sh!t creek !!

Please YM.. go away .. punch a ttree.. and come back with some credibility in your posts... We'll all be happier then !!

YM is correct. Its like locating a Global businesses head office in Iraq, Beirut, Darfur or even Jakarta. Why go to those diabolical locations if you have rental space in New York?

Posted

Because at the moment we don't have rental space in New York, we have rental space in East Timor. Sure it's close to home, but why the hell would you want to go there?

Love your work,'bub! As a resident of Langwarrin, half way between Frankston and Cranbourne, I'd be delighted if the Demons used Casey Fields! It is a great venue for summer training and the Casey Council continue to pour money into the place. It is the Scorpions home ground, and hosts a District Cricket side - Casey-South Melbourne. It is 35-40 mins from the middle of the City and has about 25 schools within a 20 KM radius of the venue. Certainly an opportunity for the Club to broaden its support base. Haven't had many stabbings out this way lately - I'm pretty sure there were no knives at Corey's party!!

There are some Eisnteins here for sure !!

Its a SUMMER ...read that SUMMER !!! training base... not Club headquarters !!

we currently have...umm let me think...oh yeah NO Training base usuable in the off season.

it will allow some consistentcy ( and boy we have that in spades huh )

Until we get our real ones.. and god knows when that might happen.. this ( Casey ) is a pretty fair fill in. Probably within our budget ( non existant that it is ) too.

Hey good news is you can still buy real estate down there @ 1970's prices.

You guys need to get your heads out of your asses. Our so-called 'supporter belt' from Kew through Camberwell and arching around to Brighton and Sandy has so far this season demonstrated nothing but apathy of the highest order. If we don't get off our collective butts and explore new markets to expand our supporter base we are D-E-A-D. When will you wake up and smell the roses (when will the entire club for that matter). We are complacent and up ourselves. You don't have to live in Cranbourne but you might not mind if a few thousand Cran-ites sign up as members as well as providing an excellent summer training venue.

Have you noticed BTW, that the stronger Victorian clubs are characterised by large supporter bases made up primarily of BOGANS - maybe there is something in this...ie. passion. You see the same thing in English Football - I remember Wimbledon hitting the wall - too many well-to-do, take-it-or-leave-it type supporters. Then you have the northern clubs where there are high levels of unemployment and they are absolutely fanatical about football. We are a lot more like Wimbledon it has to be said.

Anyway, they're not building too many new homes in Camberwell as far as I know.

I agree that Cranbourne is ridiculously far away but your comments, Jacka, are an insult.

There are good people living all over the place and Melbourne supporters all over the place too. If I was living in Cranbourne I would be incensed with your comments.

Grow up.

That is assuming Cranbournites have a handle on new technology called the internet.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
