Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Anyone have the latest membership figures?

When I renewed my membership a few weeks back I asked the guy on the phone, apparently about 10,000 have signed up already.

Well this was in todays Members newsletter which was received today:

2008 Membership

The Club’s membership drive has started strongly, and a big thanks to the 13,636 members who have already signed up for 2008, which is on track to achieve our record membership target of 30,000 members in our 150 year. For those yet to renew, do so now to beat the pre-season rush.

This is awesome our membership has been growing very consistantly over the past couple of years!! Hopefully one day (2010?) we can be a real power house with 40-50000 members that would be dream come true!!

This is slightly off the topic but are we getting stickers this year?

Good question.

I rang the club a while ago and was told we'll be getting the season guide along with stickers early in the year.

Hopefully this means we'll be getting them soon, and hopefully they won't fade like previous years.

Am getting a new car tomorrow and can't wait to destroy the paint with Melbourne stickers

  • 4 weeks later...

According to today's website it is currently at 15,385. Just received AFL membership renewels in the mail last week so expect that to increase by at least 5!

Just curious, does anyone know if the players and officials purchase memberships themselves? At our local country footy club the players are required to purchase club memberships for about $25, which gives them entry to all home games. Obviously with MFC players and officials they wouldn't require them for match-day entry, but it could be a handy little revenue booster and the increase in membership numbers couldn't hurt either......

Our figure is disapointing (15K) compared to everyone else. The price you pay for having the year from hell.

Roos are on 20K. (I bet this won't be the case next year if they miss the finals)

Lions are on 19K (they were lower than us last year)

Dogs, Richmond and St Kilda are on about 17-18K

The rest are over 20K

Melbourne - 15,385

Brisbane - 19,037

Kangaroos - 19,376

St Kilda - 20,260

Port - 24,914

Essendon - 28,419

These figures are from the clubs websites.

I couldn't find the other clubs figures from the quick look I had.

In the Press it was said the Roos had 12,000 just prior to the start of the 2007 season. Bit of a dead cat bounce!

At what were the respective Clubs figures current as at. Regardless the MFC figures are not unreasonable relative to the others.

The big issue for me is not just the bold numbers of members but also the mix of full paying as opposed to nominal paying members.

On memberships does anyone know if there is a backlog?

I purchased mine about a month ago and haven't recieved anything yet...

in an article on our website...." Visit from Dees is just Capital".... it mentions membership of 18,000 BUT homepage has not been adjusted !!!!

Right, by my understanding, we're on about 18,000 now (as mentioned by ummmm21) and in about the same ballpark as the Dogs, Tigers and Saints.

I've gotta admit I'm surprised that the Kangaroos haven't continued to climb, given the huge surge in memberships following the 'we'll fight on' declaration. I'd worry a little if it turned out that it was simply all the usual members just signing up early, and they don't actually add a big pile to their final tally. Seriously, there are people from other clubs buying a Kangaroos membership just to make a statement, they are in real trouble if they can't get a huge spike in members in this context.

As for us, 18,000 at this time of year isn't exciting, but is far from a crisis. A round one smashing of Hawthorn (without Lewis, Hodge and Crawford) should give a sting to the numbers (fingers crossed etc..). Especially with a likely contest in round 2, our first home game, against the Bulldogs. Momentum can build ever so quickly (touch wood, throw salt over shoulder, go outside, turn around three times, curse and spit)

It's a shame we don't get to play in Melbourne until at least round 3 of the [censored] cup, even if we win through and avoid some of the exciting trips to Geraldton and Wagga.

As far as the fight back is concerned for the Roos it all p1$$ and wind. The figure of 19,376 would be buoyed by the media spin and a fantastic performance last year. Its a fantastic effort but hardly sustainable. Without the media focus on the future and poor season in 2006 they had only 12,000 members to the start of 2007. I reckon they will struggle to push 25,000 especially if there 2007 golden run of injuries stops and their performance goes pear shaped.

18,000 for MFC is definitely part of a crisis we are facing. Our best membership effort was sub 30,000 and that included a mix of $40 members. Hell, Richmond can still get 30k+ members and their team is repeatedly crap. Coupled with our low turnover, MFC is in one long crisis.

I bought mine 4 months ago and still haven't received it. Call them and they keep saying they'll send it in two weeks.

Way to impress your members.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
