i just looking up at past trades we did in the draft and interesting to see results

Unlucky for us with the Sherman trade.

Anyone seen that video about Fremantle and their trade history and who they've lost out on because of bad recruiting.

I had a bit of a thing for Michael Clark, but man he was a dud!

Would you rather have kept pick 20, or get Ben Holland?

Keep in mind that we could have chosen someone good with pick 20, since we are not Richmond and we do know how to draft.

Vardy was a great get, but he was too old and too injured. A shame because he was a gun right up to his retirement. Medhurst is a troll!

the number 20 pick , currently plays for Brighton ,never got an afl game

How can Vardy be a great get? In your own words he was too old and too injured. He may have been a good gamble that didn't really pay off. Even though he showed glimpses of his former brilliance (against Freo when he won the game off his own boot for one).

We obviously didn't think he was injured, and his age was a good fit at the time as we thought we were a chance to win a flag.

From memory, we didn't pay a whole lot to get him, and he gave us good service. His time with us was short, but I really enjoyed having him in our forward line. IMO our forward line was at its most productive when he was on the field. I wish we could find a 'crumber' like him again, big, aggressive, and with a magical boot.

We absolutely lack forward pressure, especially when Davey is running around in the midfield.

the number 20 pick somehow got to west coast, and is sam butler. if you do dreamteam pick this bloke up next year he is a possession machine but has been injured for the last few years. butler will be a very very good player and there is room in the eagles midfield now.

regarding what id prefer, we keep getting an extra year out of big ben holland. however, im of the opinion that any trade that doesnt result in a premiership is a wasted trade.

Holland was traded for pick 20 to Richmond.

Which was subsequently on-traded to Western Bulldgos from Richmond (along with pick 6) for Nathan Brown.

Bulldogs then on-traded pick 20 to Geelong for Peter Street.

Geelong then on-traded pick 20 to West Coast for David Haynes.

West Coast eventually drafted Sam Butler (not Gilmour who went pick 21 to Richmond)

So its actually Holland - Sam Butler

When we picked up Vardy, he had a sensational year, and was still a fantastic player for subsequent years, if a bit injury ridden. Consider for a moment what our forward line would be like with him in it now. We could REALLY use a dashing, marking, leading, crumbing forward who can kick them from impossible angles from 55 out. Remember the goal he kicked that started that unbelievable run in the 2002 Semi against Adelaide? He did that regularly. Sylvia is a similar player I reckon, that's how highly I rated Vardy.

I remember about 10 rounds into Pickett's stay I thought we had another great trade on our hands (and to some degree we did), as it turned out he didn;t stick around. For mine, Vardy has been our best trade in recent years (not including the draft picks we traded for, eg Belly...)

Wasnt Cook a PSD pick up? Either way he kicked six in one game then did his knee in the next. He was hardly the worst we have had.

Moorcroft was a dud if ever there was one.

For mine, Vardy has been our best trade in recent years (not including the draft picks we traded for, eg Belly...)

Rather damming assessment of MFC if it were true.

We obviously didn't think he was injured, and his age was a good fit at the time as we thought we were a chance to win a flag.

He was injury riddled and gave us good service!

We got just under one good year out of him. Injuries limited his output. He was hardly a great pickup.

well done. if you search for it i started a thread about that (or posted in a thread about that years draft (i cant remember), but i worked out who had played more games, kicked goals etc we've done the best to date, with holland performing reasonably compared to even brown (considering brown also cost pick 6) due to his injury. and sam butler is the other one who hasnt played hardly at all. given our situation at the time, picking up holland was a great get, we needed some extra depth KPP and we got one who has provided good service...

The best trade I can remember Melbourne pulling off involved the acquisition of Jeff Farmer for Phil Gilbert in one of the most comically lopsided deals in history. One of the few bigger steals than that was Adelaide slaughtering us with a Nathan Bassett for Matthew Collins and Brent Williams combination.

Sam Butler is a very very good player. I'll have him over Ben Holland any day.

Beau Waters and Sam Butler were the two players coming through fast last year.

Jump on him Dreamteam next year.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
