CASEY: Rd 03 vs Box Hill

Featured Replies

After last week's bye, the Casey Demons who are sitting close to the bottom of the VFL table, have another tough assignment against a strong Box Hill Hawks combination - but at least the game is to be played on home turf next Sunday at Casey Fields.

Slight problem is that this also provides the fans with a tough assignment of getting to the MCG for the game against the Gold Coast Suns from Cranbourne to Jolimont by mid afternoon.

A possible line-up please @WERRIDEE .

I wonder if anyone knows whether the squad trained or was involved in some match simulation at the weekend. Important because there are a few contenders for a senior place who have not had much in the way of match practice over the past month thanks to the lightning strike at Ballarat and the ridiculous VFL rule that prevented them from playing in the practice match vs Box Hill a few weeks ago.

Hopefully Luker and Jefferon are back this week or next. Feel we could do with one more key forward. Cross coming out of the goal square is probably not the preferred set-up despite him contesting well.

Easter Sunday morning at Cranbourne/Casey.

Could break the all time low attendance record. Not that this is relevant anymore to the VFL.

Seriously what was wrong with 1:30pm Saturday ??

Here WERRIDEE comes to save the day again with his groundbreaking possible teams, almost as good as WERRIDEE's wisdom.

Firstly I have Rivers in the seniors replacing Jiath, Moniz-Wakefield is a chance as well with Taylor being a smokey.

Johnson should come in for his first game after overcoming a knee injury, while Kentfield (Knee), Jefferson (Foot) and hopefully McAdam (Calf) are only a week away. Get it right AFL it's a calf not an achilles! Why can't they get it right EVERY SINGLE TIME like Ghostwriter does (we won't mention McVee).

I think 2 Casey players will come in which are Scapin and Gatt who were in good form in the preseason.

B: Moniz-Wakefield, Adams, W.Lual

HB: Taylor, Berry, Mentha

C: Stanley, Laurie, Onley

HF: Henderson, Johnson, Matthews

F: Scapin, Melksham, Craven

FOLL: Heath, Bonner, D'Angelo

IC: L.Lual, Pipicelli, Gatt, Sinnema, Ah Mu

EMERG: Sruk, Bowden, Cheffers

B: Moniz-Wakefield, Adams, Berry

HB: Taylor, Petty, Mentha

C: Stanley, Laurie, Onley

HF: Henderson, Johnson, Matthews

F: Melksham, Jefferson, Scapin

FOLL: Heath, Bonner, D'Angelo

IC: L.Lual, W.Lual, Gatt, Pipicelli, Sinnema

Yeah well I MIGHT be able to attend, pending the fact that after filling my car I could STILL runouta Diesel! Making the 10 K trek from Berwick! Anyway IF, I go will let Demonlanders know how it pans out!!

Nice try Werridee - you have dropped Petty from the AFL side? Liked the look of Craven in Round 1. D'Angelo struggled...

Not sure that Melkie will make it, the way he looked last week.

I would leave Petty in ones as the ultimate replacement forward or back. Hes not slow and can ply tall. seems to play better when he is a burst player. He makes and creates space and can tackle pretty well.

I think Luamon Lual was injured in the Bulldogs game and could be an out. Melky’s knee was problematic too.

What's his injury? Was at the game didn't notice he was injured. Noticed Melksham was injured but no reports on the injury list.

I dropped Petty for Kentfield. Turner and Rivers come in for the injured Jiath and Cross. L.Lual looks to be injured Craven to replace him. I'd like to drop D'Angelo but we have nothing to replace him with at Casey.

Picket I know your not a fan of his but can you do a report on Jefferson?

Give Luker a go.

Just a bit worried that the significant injury he sustained may affect his confidence and impact which I would rather see built and evidenced at Casey.

Luker has been told he’ll need to play VFL first.

As for his confidence, dpositive, I don’t think that’s an issue. He’s as confident as he’s been since returning to good health this preseason. The broken cheekbone did nothing to erode his confidence nor has this knee injury. He used to have low confidence, when he first came to us, but playing well at Casey has changed that.

Every VFL game is streamed so we don’t need a report

Some people might not have reception or dodgy internet, so if I choose I will add some insightful brevity and expert opinion to the action!

Riley Bonner and Ethan Stanley are the two Casey Demons picked for the VFL State Team squad ahead of next week’s clash with the SANFL in Gather Round.

Congratulations to these boys, but this is yet another problem with this basket case competition. As if the byes and mismanagement of fixtures isn't enough, you are selecting a state squad on a couple of very early season games, a farce if ever there was one. The sooner we get a stand alone AFL reserves the better!

Berry is only 2cm shorter than Adams, and it's early days yet , but it seems Berry is close to going ahead of Adams as the next 3rd tall for the senior side in defence.

I recall that Lual went off for just before 3/4 for what I believed to be a concussion test. Assuming, that he went into concussion protocols as a result, it would be touch and go if he was able to play this week.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
