I sent a voicemail but I’d love to also reference here for all demonlanders — maybe trust in the coach?! Whipping boys Sparrow, Sharp, Lever, Fritta, Windsor, Kolt, Langford (honestly wtf was that LW???) ALL stood up & ALL showcased their value with aplomb — are we ready now to cool the jets & trust that our coach knows what he’s doing?

AMW, Kentfield, Taylor, Viney (maybe), Milkshake, Laurie, Jeffo all on deck to play role — our depth is there, and anyone who says it’s shot and that we’re thin is DELUSIONAL!!!

Always felt like Q1 was travel vs 17d break related — we settle, got ball outside contest and won by 23!!!

are we satisfied? Are we ready to stop throwing in towel after a bad Q? Which will happen all year and next year -/ it’s just part of the process, it’s how we respond that matters!

We had no right running down team that’s gad a 17d break. NONE! We had a Perth trip after a tough loss, yet managed our 5th best comeback of modern era without freak luck or one player dominating Ala Wonamerri, against a side who’s backs were against the wall and that made us look 2nd rate — we not only ran em down, but smashed them to win by 4g

PS — How good is Jack Steele, my goodness what a Lamb special.. another maligned figure!

I lose one final question — how wld dogs go without Bont and Libba?

Pies w/o Daicos bros?

Brisbane w/o.. actually with them it doesn’t matter they’ll still win

But my point is, let’s embrace this new era inc the odd bad qtr, it literally HAS to happen as it’s fastest way to LEARN.. so let’s calm the farm and enjoy the good qtrs?!?!

If you haven’t heard blues radio do yourself a favour esp once they get 44-1 it’s once in lifetime goodness — piling on us like you’ve never heard.. so so good https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/afl-nation/id604775284?i=1000758010619

How bloody good is our Captain Max Gawn? 17 years, 250 games, 116 goals, 8349 Hit Outs, 8 All-Australians and a Premiership as Captain. He is still carving teams up at 34 and I am positive he will still end up in the 300 game club.

for recent comparisons...

aaron sandilands (4 all oztrayan selections) retired at 36, about to turn 37, with 271 afl games across 17 seasons, plus a further 22 in 2 at east fremantle before he was rookie listed by flagmantle - he lost a lot of games to injury

dean cox (6 all oztrayan selections) retired having recently turned 33 with 290 afl games in 14 seasons, plus a premiership with east perth prior to being drafted by meth coke, where he played 26 games across 2 seasons - his durability was amazing

i have full faith that gawn can - with nothing unforseen curtailing him - continue to perform at an elite level for at least another two, possibly three seasons

if dogga jackson had stayed with us perhaps it may have actually curtailed his career; cox retired as they thought nic nat was ready to take over (when in reality scott lycett was their real succession plan)

speaking of which, he also retired at 33, with 213 games played across 14 seasons, earning 3 all oztrayan selections in that time

My main point of discussion is the role of CJ.
I watched his live in Perth and his decision making and kicking was terrible, well above other clangers by teammates.

The question is, did we improve our ball movement once Cj went off injured. Watching on TV Sunday we often linked through CJ early in the game and then his kicks were not good even to teammates he hit up.

Is there a correlation of his absence and our ability to transition the ball better. Or was it simply the blues falling into their hole after 1/4 time. Hard to tell from the limited screen to seeing the game live.

cj going down meant kolt went to the back flank role, where he was pretty calm, and careful with ball usage

removing him from his tag on cripps opened up our midfield in the third term

How good was it to shove it up the [censored] of that overrated one trick pony Patricks “YIPPS”!!

I almost jumped through the TV and wanted to rip his head off after he shoved Tholstrup when he was on the ground.

To watch us come back and rip their little pea hearts out and get up for Max & TMac was beautiful.

They can have their 80-100k members. One thing they’ll never have is a [censored] Back bone! Because they haven’t been able to buy one since the mid 90s!

Carns the Dees!

I thought Sparrow produced one of his best performances in the second half. He really stood up around the contest, worked hard through the middle, and was able to push forward and hit the scoreboard.

Last week I asked whether we might be expecting too much from our young brigade. I thought they responded strongly in the second half. Most of them had first halves they would want to forget, but the same could be said for plenty of Dees players. There were fumbles and missed disposals everywhere early, yet Langford, Lindsay, Windsor and Kolt all lifted after the break and helped bring Kingy’s game style to life as the Dees overran the Blues.

Hello panel members and thanks again for your efforts.

I would also like to sing the praises of Sparrow with respect to stepping up through opportunity. I was excited this year to see who was going to fill the supposed gaping hole in our midfield left by the departures and injury to our magnificent Grand Final midfield.

I would like to suggest that if Petracca was still with us and had a hamstring injury, we may well have lost this encounter, because no-one would have stepped up. Last week and for the first half this week we were smashed at clearances and stoppages and all the media were suggesting our midfield will condemn us to the bottom regions of the ladder. But in the second half I think we really saw the emergence of a midfield that is learning to compete, where players might have been challenged by King and finally responded. It was terrific to see and Sparrow was a real stand out in this area. I am confident of continued growth.

Only one question for you -WHY????

As an overseas fan I am only able to watch on TV. For those who were at the MCG, can you confirm that Carlton’s players were actually on the ground in the second half?

Maybe both teams swapped at half time - we stood out the first half and they did the second ?

What's this about miracles? I told you throughout the game to be patient. The Blues were always ripe for the taking once the second half demons took over.

Huge thanks for the weekly pods guys. As an interstate member, I value them enormously!

My question relates to team selection vs GCS. Does Riv. come straight back in for CJ (assuming CJ will be out with a calf injury) or will Riv. be required to serve at least a week at Casey, to earn his place back?

If it’s the latter, who comes into the 23 for CJ?

PS. IMO, the Casey bye after one round compromises Dees selections greatly. If Casey had played, and AMW had a blinder, he would have been right up there for selection.

This is great, 59 minutes in and they start saying "you can feel it, it's happening" referring to the coming capitulation. We've kicked one goal at this point. I must say you bloody well could feel it too!

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
