Did they explain why they hated us?

Because we made him look like the muppet he is, later in his career

Spot on @JJJ

Can't be a team direction as he was the only one refusing to pick up the footy on the weekend and it was infuriating and soft by Salem.

A player that has just ticked over 200 games and we have our young players watching a senior play display bad habits is not a good sign.

Sooner AMW can consolidate his spot in our back half and Bowey back means less of Salem as I dont see him in our best 23 anymore.

Always keen to jump on Salem when he has a bad game hey? You know he was 5th in our BnF last year

Calling a 200 game player soft after putting his body on the line for 12 years and winning us a flag, is pathetic

I wish more of our players displayed his composure, skill and loyalty

I thought Salem was pretty awful and showed poor leadership. Some of his possessions were not a part of our planned ball movement. I didn’t like him kicking off the ground either.

Not a fan of Riewoldt, I was at a footy function where he and Dimma openly professed their undying hatred for us, but I agree with him here. Sometimes you’ve got to be prepared to take the hit. Put you head over the ball.

Oh please.

Give me a spell Dub.

Finishing 5th in a bottom 5 side is absolutely nothing to glorify, or write home about. So please park that because thats a laughable argument. That's like saying Dean Terlich was courageous and gun player because he finished 3rd in our best fairest back in 2013.

And secondly, you think playing 200 game automatically disregards any ounce of criticism just because so?

I didnt criticise his career or achievements, I was simply being critical of his on field performance on the weekend where he displayed sub per skill error that resulted in turnovers and goals.

Excuse me if I expect better from one our more senior leaders who is suppose to be leading by example for our younger players a bit like what Max does week in week out.

Just saw a close up of Voss who I didn’t know existed til last weekend. Crikey Moses. Having to walk around with that mug is surely punishment enough.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already in the thread, but with Disco out injured, does that get T Mac a game on Sunday?

Would be somewhat fitting for both him and Gawn to play game 250 together, given they are our two longest serving players at the club and journey at the club over this time.

That would be very fitting for Max and TMac Rodney dual 250th games has that ever happened before but probably keep them separate so they can enjoy the limelight .

I’m with @dazzledavey36 , at least a bit.

Salem frustrates me. Yes, he has skill and loyalty, but to me he dines out on those attributes whilst putting teammates under pressure with nothing/dinky kicks and then, as on the weekend, not going when it’s his turn.

The clips Riewoldt mentioned are in this video from the 34.43 minute mark: https://youtu.be/iQ-FM--mTLQ?si=bVT2FXNfmnG5n5t8

IMO it’s absolutely fair to call out Salem, a leader, for this stuff. In addition to the poor showing in the clips, on the weekend he had 7 pressure acts (5th worst for us, excluding Disco who already had 6 before his injury) and 0 tackles.

I reckon this happens often with him and then posters like you will say “but he’s a classy kick” or “look at his B&F finishes”.

Reckon Dimmas hatred fot us is pretty easy to explain - 1990s essendon. Sheedy. 2000 flag....

Riewoldt being the [censored] that he is worshipping at the alter of Hardwick.....

I'm struggling to see a better oppertunity. I'd rather ensure that we do get T Mac to the 250 games. Having him stranded on 249 at the end of last season for a guy at his point of his career wasn't ideal.

In alot of ways, I know milestones are just another game, but they also do have cultural significance to clubs/teams and I think it's important they be recognised and celebrated as such and that the club does actually put a priority on giving it's veterans thr opportunity to achieve these milestones. Like I suggest, T Mac really should have played his last season rather than being dropped for Jake Lever who in retrospect wasn't quite right.

Asides from all that, I think T Mac's preseson form and track record of standing up when it counts is such that his place in the team would be well justified. Comming off from a week off should also see him hit the game physically fresh. I'm guessing the only thing that might influence the decision on his selection is the mix of talls and smalls in the backline we think we need for Carlton and/or if Heath comes in, our overall tall and small ballance. Again personally, I'd like to see T Mac in, because I think he's a rock in defence arialy and we could do with that after last week. I also think he helps us play a fast open game style, because he has a booming kick, that he often uses to put players into space with 50m passes out of defense.

... I'm not a selector, but I'll be fascinated to see what the outcome is.
