So based on the four who attended the second session absentees today were:

Viney, Lever, Bowey, Jefferson, McAdam, Campbell, Petty, Kosi (family thing), Cross, Johnson, Henderson, Kentfield.

Tom Cambell was there, first session. Having shots at goal and some run throughs. No neck brace. Did not participate with the group.

Paddy Cross was there in the first outing. He had a top on without a number. Someone said he will get the number 41.

I too would rather there'd not be these stupid songs. But it is it really that bad? It/they just sounds like a bit of an inconvenience, that's all.

I’ve been labelled a music snob before. My usual response is I absolutely love disco music so I really don’t qualify as a snob. 😁

If there are songs played after goals that will be the end of me going to the football.

I’d be happy if we could have a latter day Leonard Teale (I’m pretty sure that Leonard’s dead ‘n gone) doing a spoken word version of the players’ favourite songs.

Or do you mean Leonard Cohen? Teale was an actor in Homicide.

How about we drag out the old Hammond organ from storage room of Tommy Hanlon’s It Could Be You, and have one of those organ fanfares every time a goal is scored, with a voice over yelling out, in true Jack Little style, “By Hecla, it’s a goal!!”.

No, as much as I love Leonard Cohen, I do mean Leonard Teale… he did a spoken word version of Stairway to Heaven, on Andrew Denton’s, Money Or the Gun.

Also, being picky again, those gals weren’t performing Irish dancing, nor were they wearing traditional Irish dancing attire.

End of Karen outburst

Cheers Kaz!

How about the [censored]? The [censored] is still alive!

He was at a con only a couple of weeks ago.

I would love to have been at that show… considering that he (Leonard Teale), died on the 14th May, 1994.

Edit: saw your edited post… yeah, Shhh…atner would be an excellent substitute.

hardtack in my misspent youth Ummagumma was an absolute favourite.

Double Album live set and a studio set. Recall this side as probably from the studio set.

Set the controls for the heart of the Sun a stunning climax.

Never saw them live back then envy those that did.

It was my favourite album back in the very early 70’s… Careful With That Axe Eugene which was used in the film Zabriski Point, was my favourite track.

I was fortunate enough to see them live at Knebworth in the UK in 1975, performing Dark Side of the Moon complete with a Spitfire (3 of them) fly past right on the stroke of sunset. Despite the fact that I’m one of the few people who aren’t particularly impressed by DSoM, it was a brilliant show.

That wasn’t TC, Kev. That was Dylan Roberton wearing TC’s #29. I know for sure it was Dylan because he sang My Way to BL16 and me (long story) while tying his bootlaces, wearing #29

Paddy’s #41 kit mustn’t be ready yet hence the no-number training top. It was great to see him there today, he’s so grateful.

Thanks for the report, Ghostie.

I'm having trouble finding training times. Not that they will line up with when I'm in Melbs but hey.

Although I suspect tongue in cheek, if you are actually leaving a Dees game because they are playing music after a goal, then you probably should be at home on the couch because its not for you. The club is getting with the times (popularity of american/european sports) and trying to attract and keep younger supporters and grow membership numbers. The dinosaurs (minority) I doubt will be missed.

In context I've been going to the footy for 35 years, and it's not a big deal. I'd like to hear 25 songs a game if it means we've kicked 25 snags.

As both a teacher and father of two young boys, I’m constantly amazed at how often people underestimate and infantilise children.

Kids these days, exactly the same as when we were their age, don’t fall in love with the game because of gimmicks like music between goals or watching to see if some punter can outrun a virtual player at half time.

They fall in love with the marks, the goals, the roar of the crowd, the taste of a pie and chips. Getting to spend the day with Dad or Mum or both.

This constant Americanisation of our great game is nonsense.

There is nothing better than the roar of the crowd after a goal, and the hum for the minute or so afterwards as the state of play is discussed. Nobody needs this interrupted by ear splitting music. Nobody needs all of their senses assaulted any time there’s a break in play. Let the game breathe. Let people take the opportunity to be able to actually converse with their family and/or friends next to them without needing to constantly shout to be heard.

I promise you when kids discuss the game when they get home, or when they get to school the next day, the choice of post goal music is a hell of a long way down the list of their topics. Don’t talk on their behalf and presume they’re idiotic goldfish - they’re a lot smarter than that.

Lucky you.

It's odd how with the passage of time there are groups that you wished you'd seen, even if you weren't particularly into them at the time. Floyd are one. My interest/respect for them has grown through more exposure to David Gilmour.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
