Just reading about Petterd who now appears to be on the road to recovery after surgery. In the article, it mentions he has played 9 games this season, which makes him eligible again next year. Obviously he'd be a good chance to get nominated again next year if all goes to plan and he is up and running again in 2008.

On this same topic though, isn't Nathan Jones eligible again this year? I've looked at the nominations so far this year, and to me Jones is the equal of any of them, if not better.

On another topic, I thought Melbournes jumper last week looked better than their clash jumper, and were easier on the eye than last years heritage round jumper worn against fremantle. Am I seeing things, or was it a darker shade of blue than last years? And I was absolutely beaming when I saw the old Lions jumpers last week, they are a great looking outfit and the Lions are right to be considering it for away games. So many clash jumpers look like training jumpers (and probably were/are!)

Thoughts, anyone?

jones:

looks like they don't want to renominate him, though he has earnt it. Maybe they've forgotten their own rules?

pettard:

will fail to be renominated under the same thought.

jumper:

burn it. forget it.

though this year this team has earnt the right to that jumper.

been a long time since we've seen in a win in those horrid colours.

I did wear my ancient scarf last week but I hate the colours.

I had the same thought re Jones when I read the article. Maybe we need to remind the selectors of their own rules or ask the press their opinion.

Has anyone ever been nominated in two seasons before?

I actually loved the jumpers from last week!

I loved the heritage jumpers as well. My first jumper was the royal blue. Regardless of what a lot of people think it’s still a part of our history. I would have no issues with Melbourne wearing them as a clash Jumper.

Nice topic trumpedero I wish I was as eloquent as you oh great Hulkamaniac .

I too, in my infinite wisdom, think that jones form this year would have warranted several nominations but as yet no go.

As for the hertitage jumpers i must disagree. Although they are ok for the heritage round i would prefer another design entirely for our away games perhaps a tattoo style demon bursting forth from hell to buttrape a collingwood player on the front and the players numbers in stylised flames in black writhing across the back.

I can't get the odds up right now, but sportsbet.com.au had Jones listed pretty highly in their Rising Star market. From memory Pendlebury was $2 favorite just ahead of Selwood (who had a blinder on Saturday against Pendleburys Pies). Petterd had now blown out to over $100, obviously his season now over. Until Jones gets nominated, I wont bite, but if he does, might back him.

Last board I saw (this week) he was paying $26 as 7th favourite.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
