Coming up now..

Not sure we learnt anything did we? - except that we will not be trading the picks, up or down....

Nothing of note, though was quite firm on now trading picks and going in with 7&8. Very relaxed as always. Was probed about the same names we've been hearing and talked up Farrow and Nairn when asked. When they asked about midfield options he mentioned Robey and Cumming immediately before rolling into the other touted names, so think he rates them the most but feels they won't make it to us. Also said we've added to midfield the past few years but we've just lost champion midfielders also...

No idea who we take based on that interview.

Whilst we don't know who JT rates what seems clear is that no matter the combination ahead of us we are happy with what's left, hence no trading of picks. That gives me a lot of confidence.

Not very interesting in terms of our first 2 pick, which is unsurprising.

In saying that he did seem fairly confident Kalani would get through to the Rookie Draft, which could mean we have a couple of train on players (Sinnema included) vying for our last list spot over preseason. Something for the track watchers at least.

Intrigued to hear he said no trading up or down. Would've thought it made sense to talk that up as a live option in order to keep Essendon honest so they don't manipulate their picks, regardless of whether we were actually ever going to do it or not.

Still, there's a reason why he's very good at what he does so just have to back him in!

Interesting that he had no hesitation is saying Kentfield is player on our list already that fans should keep an eye on this year. Had big wraps for him

Me too. He must be confident that no matter what happens above us, we'll get two he really likes.

When he said "no trading of picks" was he referencing our picks 7 & 8 or was he ruling out all trading of picks including a possible trade to an earlier pick further into the draft in order to select a player the club's interested in?

I haven't listened to it yet, so this is just my opinion, but it reads as though he's talking explicitly about 7 & 8 (I stand to be corrected). I'd imagine we're still looking to move another pick into the mid first-round, likely from next year.

Of course, that would also be an interesting move if we genuinely see ourselves in the hunt for Bailey.

Twomey said yesterday that Carlton hadn't received any offers which included a future first for their pix 9 & 11 ๐Ÿคฏ

I wonder if we are interested in Sharp after all or if there is another player we rate in the top 8 live picks.

JT clearly doesnโ€™t see the need to play games with Essendon.

Watched him at training yesterday, and he covers the ground well for a big guy. He did impress me with his aerobic work and repeated efforts. Definitely will be playing in 2026.

That's strange, I would've thought that those picks would really hit the mark with the general vicinity of first round picks we'd want to target.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard it mentioned somewhere last night that although nothing had agreed on, it was likely those pick selections would be formalised today?

I havenโ€™t seen any link from anyone to us wanting to get another later first rounder?

Or do you mean shifting one of them back a bit to get another pick next year?

The Gold Coast pick from next year has been on the table, along with Pick 37, in order to get back into this years first round.

Oh right. Havenโ€™t seen that anywhere in the media.

I wouldn't get too excited yet about Kentfield. He's a very good contested mark, but he hasn't shown he has the athletic requirements yet to cut it at AFL level.

He was also a very low production guy even in juniors.

Now, he may progress to become a star, but I'll certainly temper my expectations based on his output to date.

I'd love to see a source for that because I don't think anyone has seen it.

I'm almost certain that, if that were true, we would already have an extra first round pick (plus some extra picks) in this draft. It would also shock me if that were the case.

Yep it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Norf are getting this year's pick 11 from Carlton with their pick 25 and a future 2nd.

GC's first rounder and this year's pick 37 would appear to be more valuable than that.

Could the value of 37 be too low?

In a points sense for Carlton

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourneโ€™s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last yearโ€™s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although itโ€™s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sundayโ€™s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to foolโ€™s gold.
