But that's because Kozzy and Watson are really good players.

You don't reach for a completely different player that's not of the same quality simply because they play the same position.

Think a few points has been mixed and lost in translation. Are we talking Pickett and Dovastan or are we talking the back end small forwards?

Dovaston or Pickett I’d back to have a better crack at it/making an impact at senior level over McAdam, Mentha and Henderson.

As for the small forwards available at 37? Probably not. Especially not in this draft.

I hate Essendon as much as most Dee’s supporters but what you’ve said about Dodoro, is simply not true, off the top of my head they drafted or traded in

Courtney Dempsey, Paddy Ryder, Leroy Jetta, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Alwyn Davey and one of his kids, Andrew Lovett, Anthony McDonald-Tipanwutti, Jade Gresham, Irving Mosquito and Tex Wanganeen

In fact, two of Alwyn Davey's kids (Alwyn Jr and Jayden) although neither are now on Essendon's list.

taylor byrne i think has enough, leon kickett and latrelle pickett i think do too

other smaller players bob, dalton, mcguane, kneipp, im less sure on as they arent natural crafty small fwds and dont necessarily have either the goal nous or the agility to really show up bigger stronger or even quicker opponents

Plenty of unknowns in all that. Henderson with a full pre-season under his belt and a different game plan, McAdam over his injuries and with his head in the right place, Mentha with a year in the system?

Dovaston isn't Watson, and Pickett isn't Pickett, though hard to see either of those aligning with our current picks in any case. Dovaston tested really well, so could be a player, though not sure if it'll be for us.

I think Dovaston would be our first pick at 7 if Essendon call our bluff of threatening to trade down so someone else can get Sharp. If thats the case then Essendon gets 5.Taylor 6.Farrow and 9.Sharp. What a combo that would be. Trying to get used to the idea of us ending up with Dovaston/Nairn combo but hoping its not the case.

From cals phantom draft.

"The bulk of Melbourne's work will again be done early, with the Demons' back-to-back first-round picks coming from the Christian Petracca trade to Gold Coast. They are likely to use a third selection, with their pick in the 30s expected to slightly come in on the second draft night. If small forward Latrelle Pickett is available he would be expected to be snapped up, but he is set to be gone by then. Other plays they have looked at include small forward Talor Byrne and goalkicker Oskar Ainsworth, while Tai Hayes is also another they have done their work on. If Adam Sweid is still on the board at their third pick they could be a potential bidder. Kalani White has been nominated as a father-son and is likely to get through to the rookie draft. The Demons haven't nominated Next Generation Academy prospect Toby Sinnema, with the Dandenong Stingray a chance to be a train-on option after the draft if not selected."

oskar ainsworth linked to us and also the tigers at 38, can;t find much on him but seems to be a really similar type and build to nairn, having also gone tholstrup recently i hope we look at someone with a bit more POD even a smaller mid like a sam allen or addinsall if we dont go for a true small like byrne just to sort of round out the list. theres something about a side of 18 186-189cm blokes that just appears to vanilla even if they are all slightly different somewhat, you need that game changing player to really spark your side sometimes

High highlights aren't that flash at all. Lot of turnovers in the Coates League grand final...

Preliminary final Dragons v Gippsland Power. Rory Wright was clearly best on ground and the main reason why Sandy Dragons made it into the grand final. His ballwinning, skill and kicking was a highlight. At pick ā€œ37ā€, he’s as good as any youngster in that range.

He's been tipped to go late or rookie selection.

No thanks.

I can think of about 20 or so high quality talent ahead of him.

Only saw Oscar Ainsworth in a few Western Jets games. He was ok but didn’t win it that much. Didn’t have him in the top 70-80 youngsters. Handy small medium goalkicker but there’s plenty of similar types in under 18s footy and we have plenty of small medium forwards already on the list.

Anything mentioned about Sam Allen. His start to the year and games at Scotch College were super impressive. Strong st the footy, good burst of speed and elite runner. Huge disappointment that he got injured and missed most of 2025. If he’s available, Dees should closely look at him for this pick.

Looks like we most probably have pick 33, if you follow Cal Twomey's phantom, which would leave us the 3rd pick on the second night of the draft.

We may have these names left on the draft board, according to Cal, Greeves, Hibbin Hargreaves, Phillipou, Loudowyke, Leray, Onely, BOB and to many others to mention.

Thoughts on who else may be left.

Without Sinemma being nominated, we also now have a vacant rookie spot, maybe for a train on player, or does pick 63 (late 50's) come into play!

NHH would be an absolute fantastic get at 33.

I’ve been very bullish on him, would love to get him in the side, could see him filling a couple of spots very nicely.

Our second round pick looks like it could net us a really good slider based on who’s not excited to go in the first round (according to Cal anyway)

Hibbins-Hargreaves. I rate him around pick say 15-16 so if he fell past into the 30s, I’d be shocked … [censored] amazed. His inconsistency may deter others but his best is as good as any young gun in this draft.

Do you suspect his role as a utility and inability to definitively bed-down a position has adversely impacted on where he'll go?

That's assuming this slide occurs...

The updated 'Hun Phantom no longer has HH in the Top 30 either...

Watched a bit of the Jets, the games I saw Oscar played that high half forward role works pretty hard and looks ok in front of goals. Wouldn't have him at 37 though, rookie maybe.

The Jet that has fallen of the radar is tom Burton, small but quick and good skills. With the rise of small forwards again you need small quick defenders to stop them, Burton would be a good pick up at 37

Agree. Who knows where he'd rank now if played out the year. Looks like a steal.
