Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Only a few weeks ago, ppl wanted this bloke delisted.

After some very good games, i'm sure ppl have jumped ships from but my question is should we trade him for prob. a second round pick or keep him?

IMO. Trade.

With the season shot, our priorities should be giving kids a game but also giving the flawed talents like Wheatley, Miller, Jamar, CJ, Warnock every opportunity to shine. If they do well, their price goes up, if they fail- we lose anyway.(More then likely they are all close to being delisted which will be disappointing as we won't get a return for their talents).

Wheatley's a prime example to try to inflate our playas price.

I never wanted him delisted

Whoever did has no idea

He was one of our best players in 2005, in fact he was in our top 10 most important

Injury ruined his 2006 season

now he is fit and on fire

he is easily in our best 22

And that has always been the case

Wheatley has always played his best football on the wing running into the forward line, and unfortunately that has only been in about 10% of his games over his career. (More like 60% at when playing for Sandy).

Hopefully under a new coach, and with the emergence of Petterd and Frawley as mobile backline players, he can continue to play further up the ground and show those not convinced like yourself his true colours.

FWIW His is NOT a small defender nor a TALL one. Oh and he is not an inside player either. He is a reciever and deliverer, just like TJ. He has the greatest weapon you can have in modern football. An accurate long kick!!

IMO I would not trade him. He is the age and has the experience that we will sorely lack on our list once the elder statesmen on our list retire in the next year or two.

don't get me wrong. i rate wheatley and believe his 2005 form is his true form. ( as shown in the past weeks).

but he's 26-27 and massive question marks over being injury prone.

Don't mind if we keep him but second round pick sounds tempting. (Nothing less then 2nd round draft pick.)

My understanding is he was one player who was put on the trade table in a big way last year and got no worthwhile nibbles.

IMO he's a fair-to-good player who is far more value to us as a player than he is as trade currency. A keeper for mine.

His kicking is too good to get rid off. We have gone from a team a couple years ago with some of the best field kicking to a team that has very average skills around the ground....

We wouldnt ged anything for him if we were to trade so we should retain him. However offer one year deals so when we find are replacement he can filter out of the system.

Wheats is a handy player to have on our list even though i think he is alergic to the weights room after all these years.

Im not one that likes Paul Wheatley.

I would like to see him traded.

I dont dis-like him(anymore) as I understand that he cant play any better than he did yesterday.

If it does mean putting him on a wing and accepting he is a receiver, fine.

I just always hoped his talent would lend itself to be more of a really good backman.

But I accept now rather than denigrate him.

My problems with him are:

He cant stay on his feet during a one on one and its a real hole in his game.

When he is in a position to enter the fray he stands back, AAron Davey goes in harder.

It is just my opinion... but Id like to see him Ward and Brown go at years end.

Your Highness, not for those who blindingly say keep without looking at what is across the table as part of a trade.

.........Or for those that blindly say "trade" I would think!!!

I think he has a place in the AFL... it could be on our list, but as far as I'm concerned he's not the kind of player that will be among those that win you a flag. But then a late pick in a shallowdraft probably won't either, and a late pick is all we'd get.

There are HEAPS of players who won't be with the club next year. He could be one of them, but he probably won't be... and he's very unlikely to be delisted. I'm happy with that.

...which is why I found it doubtful he'll be traded. Unless he's part of a complicated deal I think it unlikely that anything we get in return for him on his own is ever going to amount to the fair-good value he has in our side.

Rowan Jones, Lewis Roberts-Thompson, Josh Mahoney, Gary Moorcroft etc.....

Premiership teams need all types of players, I dont see why Wheatley with his brilliant kick, speed and versatility can not be part of a Premiership team

Agreed. It would be part of a bigger deal but I dont discount it. But failing that he should be at MFC in 2008.

As I've said before, a keeper. Only 26 so he'll be around for a few years yet.

Wing is where it's at for Wheatley though - needs to be given more scope to attack.

Playing as a wingman he can push back and play defensively (after all, he played there for x years), but we can also utilise his skills on the counter-attack and get him pushing forward and kicking some long goals for us.

wheatleys kicking is great.. he kicks long and direct thats what i like to see in a player... i also to believe he should be played on a wing and kicking in to the forward line... 2005 was his best year by far IMO....

he is more valuable to us at the club than being traded..

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
