If we don’t trade up I wonder if we can convince Eagles to trade for a pick in the 20s.

We want Nairn and Pickett but obviously no early second rounder.

I never like trading a pick out of the top ten but if we are picking Nairn who’s not rated in the top 20 and can get Pickett I’m down for it.

Offer pick 8 so they can get Farrow (do we throw in 37?)

We get pick 13 and early second rounder.

Melbourne:

Cumming/Taylor/Grlj + Nairn + Pickett

Eagles:

Duursma + CDT + Farrow

It’s obviously a risk if those players are available at that pick.

That’s if Essendon decide against trading up.

It’s looking more and more likely that Nairn is going to go in the early to mid first round now

He’s got an invite to night one of the combine and Twomey said that clubs like Hawks and GWS would be interested in him if we don’t take him

Think we’re going to have to take him at 8 unfortunately, but I think there’s a chance we can secure a later first round pick if Pickett is still on the board

I’m trying my hardest to figure out how we secure a late first rounder but I’m struggling! Haha.

Freo sitting at pick 20 (pre f/s + academies) is annoying me because I just have a feeling they’ll take Pickett.

Will probably be clearer what options are practice come cals phantom draft on Monday but as it stands multiple clubs between 10-15 are considering Nairn as per gettable.

Eagles don't have a pick in the 20s currently and I actually wouldn't be surprised if Farrow is high up on our board as well.

I think if we want to make a play for Pickett it's going to be via offering up Gold Coasts future first to a team that doesn't mind trading out of this year's draft for next. Maybe a team like the Dogs (Pick 14) Geelong (19) or Freo (20). Just my opinion at this stage.

Or we just take him with pick 8.

The other watch is what Carlton do with picks 9 and 11 and where a bid for Dean comes in. Perhaps we can get involved there somehow.

Carlton may be willing to part with one or both of 9&11 depending on where the bid comes for Dean.

Adelaide are reportedly interested in moving up from 16.

Suns will be willing to part with 15&18 and any of their later picks as long as they get points for academy players.

Lions also wanting to trade 17 for more points.

I'm not sure we will have an realistic play on Gold Coasts or Brisbane's picks with only pick 37 to offer from a points perspective.

Adelaide might be an option but that's a decent slide and we may miss out on both Nairn and Pickett.

Perhaps there will be some elaborate multi-club trades that land us two mid to late first round picks but it's hard to imagine at this stage.

There will def have to be a third club involved, if we slide back from 8 to 13 then we could include some of WC later picks as part of that deal( along with WC future 2nd) then add the to 37 and GC 1st.

There’s probably a dozen different routes we could go to make it happen I’d say. Depends how bad we want it

I've got no idea why people come out with definitive statements like this when they don't actually know what they're talking about.

Twomey, The Age and The Herald Sun have all independently linked us to Nairn with our early picks and said we're heavily into him. Taylor has consisently gone against the grain with early picks. Just cos phantom drafts have players in certain spots doesn't mean he'll just blindly subscribe to them.

We may pick him, we may not. But "we aren't picking him" is just nonsense.

I’ll say this again..: not one afl phantom draft has Nairn in the top 20… these phantom drafts are almost 100% accurate to at least the top 15. Go back the last 10 years and very rarely will there be an exception.

JT and the draft team will be no doubt in discussions on who to pick, with pros and cons for a number of players, with input from Kingy too.

All I know is whatever 2 players we pick at 7 & 8 have to be stars ️, including Nairn.

No pressure JT, just get it right 🙏 🙏 🙏

My phantom draft does

This is now becoming comical. Why would Melbourne pick Nairn with pick 8 when no one has him lower than pick 25?

Can you send me your phantom draft from last year and multiple you tube videos breaking down every player?

I can't, I wrote it on the bathroom wall at work

Clubs in the early teens do.

Cal Twomey had confirmed this.

Reading the tea leaves with the players we have been linked to and comments by the media and others plus what I think are our needs.

I think by the end of the first draft night we will have picked up Farrow, Nairm AND Pickett.

Will require us getting creative with pick 8,37 and/or GC first but we are the best at doing that.

Demonland disclaimer- I know very little about this draft. The above comment is only my opinion.

Pickett won't be on the Board at 37 - if we want him, we will have to go early....

Then why up until yesterday cals draft had him at pick 25

Mate - he's just been invited to the night - he's going early and probably to us. And the other is Cumming or Taylor - in that order (fingers crossed one of them is still available).

It’s not a phantom draft 🤦‍♂️ It’s a form guide. Read the title maybe?

Who cares that all these nuffy you tube phantom drafts that you so keenly follow have Nairn at 20+. It’s about what the clubs think, and we’re just starting to realise that they rate him a lot higher than that. Why eles would he be invited to the first night of the draft where they only announce the first round?

4 minutes ago, Oxdee said:

That's a power ranking. That's their power levels if they're going to fight to the death

4 minutes ago, Oxdee said:

Cal will release his actual phantom on Monday. His previous releases have been his own personal rankings.

He watches a lot of junior footy and has decent insights but he's not a recruiter and there's always a decent variation between his rankings and his phantoms.

9 minutes ago, Oxdee said:

Because Cals own personal rankings of the draftees is completely separate to how clubs rank and view them from their end.

He pretty much confirmed that clubs have been trying to hide Nairm away quietly so that they could pick him up in the first round selection.

Pretty simple to understand.

Are they? Many of them are absolutely miles off.

This is also a draft where I think @ChaserJ said you can throw a blanket over them very early on.

There’s some people who understand recruiting and others who don’t. This thread has both

It’s not about the specific number, it’s about what you have to give.
