But seriously if the worst case scenario happens - Robey, Taylor, Cumming and Farrow off the board (and we don’t rate Grij or Sharp) - who the [censored] are we taking with Nairn?

Dovaston seems to make sense but not sure if we’ve been seriously linked to him

Oskar Taylor? Josh Lindsay? I like them but seems early

The options don’t inspire much confidence

Then we go need.

I reckon Dovaston could come into the frame in that scenario.

Great intel Viney.

What team is the top 10 lock likely to go to?

Is he a good kid?

A potential for MFC. Excellent citizen, has seen what it takes training with a draftee from 2 years ago that is excelling and was blown away by the level required, is willing to do the work.

  1. Willem Duursma — West Coast Eagles

  3. Zeke Uwland — Gold Coast Suns *

  4. Dylan Patterson — Gold Coast Suns *

  5. Xavier Taylor — Richmond

  6. Daniel Annable — Brisbane *

  7. Sam Grlj — Richmond

  8. Harry Dean — Carlton *

  9. Sullivan Robey — Essendon

  10. Dyson Sharp — Essendon

  11. Aidan Schubert — Melbourne

  12. Josh Lindsay — Melbourne

  13. Oskar Taylor — Hawthorn

  14. Sam Cumming — GWS Giants

Also has Pickett going at 28 to the Bulldogs - it’s a weird mock draft

I spoke to a top 10 draftee lock today who I have coached, some insights:

Dovaston - Hawthorn or Adelaide likely.

Farrow - Yeah he is alright.

Dursma - Very laid back, lots of talent , similar to his 2 brothers.

Cumming - Richmond have serious interest.

X Taylor - Richmond or Melbourne.

Nairn - Never heard of him, yeah apparently Melb have told him they are going to take him.

Cal Twomey - he is a ripper fella, might be hard to get the top 10 right this year.

Couldn’t see Hawthorn taking Dovaston given they have Jack Ginnivan, Nick Watson & Dylan Moore.

Unless of course they aim to be the forward line of midgets.

A lot of Hawk fans on the socials seem keen on Dovaston which is a surprise to me for the reasons you have put above

What a patently poorly researched mock. Granted I’m not an oracle but we’re almost certainly taking Nairn, and have also been ruled out of taking Schubert and Lindsay. The mind boggles!

This is News Corp's 'premium brand', as well.

  1. WCE: Duursma

  2. WCE: CDT

  3. RICH: Sharp

  4. RICH: Cumming

  5. ESS: XT

  6. ESS: Robey

  7. MEL: Nairn

  8. MEL: Farrow?

  9. ESS: Dovaston

We aren't using pick 7 on Pickett. This is a Demonland fantasy

Yes it’s like when people wanted us to take Sam Van Rooyen

I’m starting to feel like Taylor might reach us. Not sure how off the mark I am

We would take Cumming in this case.

Looks like a phantom draft they've done on October 15 and couldn't be bothered updating

Jungle drums are beating on Sharp + Cumming to RICH

Good result if Sharp gets taken I guess

Wonder if Essendon take XT or Farrow with Robey?

I wonder if you could swap the Blues 7 for 9 and 11 if they thought they could get ahead of the bid on Dean?

Dean will be bid before 7 so that’s useless to them

Can you make a rumour about Robey getting to us instead?

What's with the lack of hype around here on Xavier Taylor?

Looks like an absolute sure thing if ever I've seen one. High floor but also high ceiling type. Vlastuin clone

We kept the Nairn interest under wraps until fairly late. I’m still intrigued by who is next on our board if none of Robey, Cumming, Farrow and X Taylor get through.

Might be wrong but still have a sneaky suspicion JT has another option if needed. Maybe one of Taylor, Harley Barker or Mitch Marsh.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
