I'd add to that, we can offer him quality midfield time that may be harder to get at GC.

If Humphrey was planning to return to Victoria/Melbourne in 2028 anyway, the question is "why not do it now, and build a legacy at a foundation club with a coach he knows?"...

For him its a "bird in the hand vs two in the bush" conundrum, now with MFC, or to a "better" club in three years. Assuming he can forecast who will be better in 3 years...

Yep, agreed, that's what I meant about being the main man in there

The other aspect that warrants scrutiny is this assumption that because GC popped their finals Cherry this year that more finals and a Flag are inevitable and immanent.

Taking our journey as a template of a talented list finding it's groove, GC are at our 2018 moment and shouldn't expect silverware for another 3 years (at best)... just when Humphrey's contract will expire and he'll be on the market for real.

And replicating our journey would be optimistic given the intense challenge in winning a flag.

Sure, we're looking to offload two stars of the game (formerly super stars), but given the Suns' midfield and our emerging midfield, I think we'd be an enticing prospect to Humphrey.

Playing next to Kozzy, Langford, Lindsay, Windsor and Bowey, but being the main man in there is a pretty good sell I reckon.

We want to play fast, we want to be aggressive, we've still got the best ruckman in the league, along with some hardener premiership players in Viney, Salem, Langdon, Lever and Fritta.

We also play our home games at the MCG and have recently won a flag. I don't think the sell is as difficult as some make out.

And the biggest point is the $1.5-2mill pa he'll be unlikely to get anywhere else and certainly not at the Suns.

Exactly. And he’s apparently been speaking to Hawthorn for a while. He’s going to leave, this year or next.

Taking your support out of the equation which club are you picking right now if indeed you want to break your contract, go through the media 💩storm and relocate?

Hate to bring the mood down but I think we might be glorifying the calibre of this draft a little now it seems we’re gonna have two high picks. A couple months back Twomey who everyone knows is the draft guru stated that everyone taken picks 1-5 in the 2023 draft would be a shoe in for pick 1 this year, and Sanders (pick 6) would’ve been in the mix. That’s a top 5 that includes Zane Duursma - he would’ve been the runaway pick 1.

We took Windsor with pick 7, and even though I love the kid, he was touted to be more in the early teens range. In this draft he would be an outside smoky for pick 1. The only player in this draft that’s of interest to me at the high end is Sullivan Robey, but he’ll almost certainly be off the board by 6 (becomes 10+ with Allen compo, Uwland, Patterson and Annable, potentially Dean and King).

I’ll back whichever kids we bring in and hope for the best, but I’m under no illusions that we’ll be getting another Langford and Lindsay.

It's not that simple tho, because Hawks have even less to give GC

If he's desperate to move NOW, then he also has to be realistic about going to a club that has something on offer to entice GC

In the same way that Trac is contracted, and is trying to get to a club with assets to make it happen, instead of say trying to get to Collingwood because it's his dream

Humphrey has time on his hands. He is young. He can push his case now, and next year, and GC can keep saying no, and eventually he's out of contract as he enters his prime and he tells GC to jump, because they've blocked him from going home for 3 years

It all comes down to how driven and motivated he is to get back to Victoria

I don't think GC think that at all. Its all well and good for MFC to demand a great player (or one with high potential) in the deal but how many deals involving a star player have looked like that in the recent past?

I'm aware of steak knife players being thrown in with picks to trade for star players. But generally, its always just a group of picks like we've seen for players like Cameron and Danger for eg

I imagine once GC get the pick from Saints they will group that with other picks for Trac. That will be the offer as it has been for other A grade players in recent history.

If we're not willing to do that trade then I can see GC using that offer to go after Curnow or someone else and simply send Trac back our way.

If Curnow escapes his cage he's going to the Bloods. GC have no chance at a look in there.

Tracc fills their direct needs.

The Dons (currently) refusing to trade Merritt to Hawks, adds credence to our claim that we wont trade Trac unless its clearly beneficial (i.e. Humphrey included). Would be a huge missed opportunity on multiple levels if the Suns messed up this deal for Trac in order to hold onto a player likely to leave anyway in a couple of years, and for less.

Plus we're yet to hear from the AFL/Suns marketing department... 😂

Indeed but he doesn’t appear to be desperate to move and therein lies the real problem with our fantasy. Even if he was I’d still suggest his first line would be “trade me to the Hawks” over “swap me for Petracca”

Don’t get me wrong I’m in the give them Petracca and something (bar our first round pick next year) to make this happen.

Hardwick knows his value.

If I were Humphrey’s manager I’d tell him Hawthorn are a powerhouse and we can wait. But the hand in the bush is Melbourne and they’ve recently developed superstars in Trac, Oliver, Kossi, Gawn… you wouldn’t lack for opportunity. They have future stars in Langford, Lindsay and Windsor.

If you like Melbourne take the deal, it’s big money and a good club.

It's about who can get the deal done.

Hawthorn aren't in the conversation.

They will be next year and the year after one would think.

But Suns don't get Trac.

It's probably a longshot to get Humphrey to MFC, he can bide his time trying to win flags at GC and then get to Hawthorn or Collingwood in 2029, or even take a $3M sign-on bonus at Tasmania who can take him as a FA. I actually think there's more incentive for GC to do the deal than there is for Humphrey, they're not getting a Petracca when he's traded in future. But it's really up to Humphrey.

Lots of interesting thoughts 🤔 on this subject

👍👍👍

Still early days

Demon hat ON: I think Trac is underrated now. But was overrated before. He’s the type of player that has his best years from 30-33.

I like the idea that he stays, rejected by his chosen club who lowball offer.

He plays next year like a man with something to prove and wins the Brownlow, or close.

Firmly Demon hat on, but not an entirely unrealistic proposition either.

This a classic tactic to renegotiate his current contract as per Kozzy last year. This thread is a waste of space.

Getting Humphrey to the Dees has 3 boxes we need to tick off.

1.      Trac commits to GC (Tick)

2.      Humphrey commits to Dees (Pending)

3.      Negotiating with GC on the trade details. (Pending)

Stage 1 is locked in, if stage 2 happens (The hardest part IMO) I believe stage 3 will be straight forward. We just really need to do whatever we can to convince Bailey we are the place for him to thrive / get paid! 🤣

So Trac says " I commit to GC"

End of sentence?

Whether your view is biased or not truly won't matter. But this is the ACTUAL scenario Suns must be contemplating and this might as well be our stance when negotiating.

Perceived Value is this . The trade needs to reflect a market value close to.....imho

If we don’t do the petracca trade, watch the media knobs load up on us again. I’m sick of us being an easy target. Regardless of what we do, it’s always doom and gloom. Hopefully this culture reset starts a change. It’s hard to read it constantly and not let it affect your own psych.

Why ?Tracc wants to leave so I guess GC has to stump up his value. If they don’t ..then it’s more Tracc who has “egg on his face.”

I get that, just seems like the media are trying to dictate to us what he is worth, is it being driven from above? as long as we hold firm on our belief on his worth, it’s all good. I personally think that there are far too many sports journalists (very loose term) for people with an agenda against someone or another team these days. Who can get the most views as opposed to writing the truth.

Why are posters so fixated on what the media are saying.

Our negotiating team won't be influenced one iota by what they are spouting

just ignore them

How dare you dismiss master negotiator and list manager to the stars Josh Jenkins!

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
