2025 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.

Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

Max had a brilliant year which is reflected in his All Australian, Keith Bluey Truscott and 23 Brownlow votes. I think that he surprised us all.💕❤️💙

Greatest MFC player I've seen in my time supporting the club. I wouldn't put it past him to contend for a ninth AA next year which gets him into uncharted territory.

Contracted until 2027, but realistically, how much longer can he go on for? Hopefully the heir apparent will be in place by then.

Should have pages and pages of acclamation on this bloke and I dread the day I have to tolerate someone else run out first.

I would knight him now but he would probably refuse.

I love his independence, his humour, his mind and his stoic loyalty.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
