VFL 2025 Season Review

Featured Replies

Jed Adams, Luker Kentfield, Noah Yze and Paddy Cross all deservedly got recognition by their coach. If list spots are available the later two will hopefully get serious consideration by the list management team. Casey has been a rewarding alternate pathway to the big league for a number of players. Like to see that trend continue.

Riley Bonner on 7 votes is only 2 votes behind the leader in JJ Liston Trophy for the VFL B & F after Round 5.

Yes but their capitulation to Frankston who had no listed AFL players was most disappointing.

Hard to find details & trying to confirm but I think Riley Bonner came runner up in the Liston....well done Riley.

J.J. LISTON TROPHY (Smithy’s VFL Best and Fairest)
Jacob Dawson (Southport Sharks) – 28 votes

Riley Bonner (Casey Demons) – 23 votes
Dom Brew (Werribee) – 21 votes
Deven Robertson (Brisbane Lions) – 20 votes
Henry Hustwaite (Box Hill Hawks) – 18 votes
Brodie McLaughlin (Williamstown) – 17 votes
Jack Bytel (Coburg) – 15 votes
Ted Clohesy (Geelong Cats) – 15 votes

Billings 12 votes. Yet didn’t poll in the last few games where he was best on ground in at least 4 games. Got 40 disposals v Hawks in last game was absolutely the best on ground. Zero votes. Umps are clowns.

Agree most disappointing particularly for 45 minutes during 2nd and 3rd qt. Nine unanswered goals was damming. The disappearance into the Frankston (Bermuda) Triangle was on the whole team, AFL and VFL listed players alike.

The winning ‘streak’ to get to the finals proved to be illusory. Frankston’s performance that evening as KC mentioned was a finals outlier. Nonetheless proved to be a formidable opponent. With a team of unheralded players who had a blue collared attitude. Add to that some unexpected polish. Proved to be a home ground ambush.

Tom Campbell never gave up, Bailey Laurie, Jed Adams, Paddy Cross and Luker Kentfield showed some fight. But the last qt. comeback, commendable as it was seemed bound to fizzle out from so far back.

Onwards and upwards in ‘26!

Including a Brisbane premiership ruckman.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
