This is entering 'free to good home' levels.

Long way to go yet, but I'd say the odds are leaning towards May staying in red and blue in 2026.

Yep, or we get literally a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I think we would take it too.

I think we're heading to a payout with May.

You don't go through this type of virtual delisting and come back happy.

Tom Mac went through a similar delisting a few years back but nothing like this one

Tend to agree - pretty tough on a new coach in a cultural reset if a senior player he’s tried to kick out returns.

Somewhat tempered perhaps if May is to spend more time at Casey than not ??

Teams needs may (npi) change/morph a little as the 🎪🤡🎪 plays out.

Club/s will take May at a fire sale price at the death. Why pay when you can wait 9 days and get him for virtually free?

I think the price was virtually free when announce he was free to look around.

But the question will be who will make the move?

Dogs and Pies that most obvious and they are apparently not keen. Sydney are getting Jai Serong.

Carlton? Adelaide if they move Butts to the Dogs or Roos. It’s a limited list of teams that make sense.

Not sure of his wage, but assume the closer we get to the deadline - we may consider chipping in a little given its his last year. Would be better than a complete pay out?

Yes, but if we pay him out - as is the supposition in the earlier post, not based on any report or rumour - then other clubs can get him for no outlay and on the minimum $$$.

Looks like he'll be back playing for us next year at this stage. As lamb mentioned today "If he comes back in, we expect a big year from him".

I think this was a decent move from the FD. Sit him down to have an honest conversation of where he's at. Clearly he was not up to standard this year as a key back/leader. We gave him an opportunity to play elsewhere, otherwise he comes back in next year and shows the proffesionalism and commitment to getting his fitness/form back to standard and push for selection over the up and coming key backs.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
