I just read a rumour that May's off to the Bulldogs. It was from journo .... but it could be true. If so it makes sense to keep TMac.

It wasn't really a rumour per se, it was an opinion piece by Scott Gullan suggesting that May could be the missing piece that the Dogs need to challenge for a flag. The title definitely mischaracterises the piece in traditional click-bait fashion.

Interesting you’re talking past tense about Trac and Clarry? Talking about didn’t want to leave. Have I missed something?

I didn’t notice I was speaking in past tense. Sometimes when I’m fired up my grammar deserts me. I was likely unconsciously thinking back to this time last year when stories abounded about them wanting out. Neither Tracc nor Clarrie wanted to leave then and neither wants to leave now. Both want to stay at the MFC.

I'm really not too fussed. Even on here there are posters annoyed with May. If that's actually warranted I'm happy to see him go. AND if he goes TMac is a reasonable replacement.

So you are saying Petty is going to the backline?

Can he turn his career around? Do we want the risk? I think not. If there are problems in the playing ranks, whether a rift or overall team morale, they don't want to add to that. After two frustrating years I think everyone in the club wants to see a bounce next year. If I were a brand new coach I'd also wanna see a bounce. If I were Buckley I'd probably also wanna see a bounce too - a coach from the enemy replacing our only living premiership coach whose last few years saw a drop-off. On top of that whether coincidental his replacement took the 'same' team to success. So I'm sure he shouldn't risk it. Oh, and especially after we got caught at the foot of the ladder when the last new sides came in we sure as hell don't wanna be there again when Tasmania come in. So no, no, no, no,no, no, no.

(I'd only recommend a team in the premiership window with an established coach, and many weeks of pondering, would risk this guy. Didn't he even point a gun at a teammate?

We probably won't but we are over allocated for rookies with our 2 ssp picks in Culley and Henderson. That brings it back down to 4.

In: Sinnema, White, Derkson

Leaves only one "live" pick in the draft which also prevents us from acquiring any other players via trade.

Of course we can trade out contracted players to make more room and I suspect Henderson may not get another contract either.

Marty Hore retirement and Jack Henderson delist provide another two spots.

Barring anything unforeseen (eg. injuries), the first three rounds of 2026 will see some huge milestones:

Round 1: Tmac 250 games & Salo 200 games

Round 2: Melky 250 games

Round 3: Maxy 250 games

Sounds like a celebration of my 21st all those years ago which went for about 6 weeks.

fwiw our current list spots are:

  • Senior: Zero

  • A-rookie: 3

  • B-rookie: Zero

Or maybe it unlocks our ability to trade other players.

No surprise you find a negative everywhere.

Indeed.

For example, Tmac staying provides key defensive coverage if we trade out May.

And if we do trade May out having Melksham as forward option means we are better placed to move Petty back to replace May

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
