I wish Charlie the best of luck elsewhere and hope he gets his body right to regain the little speed the had. We though need to go passed extending contracts for players like him and find new players to take us forward.

Spargo is one of few players who doesn't panic and kick indiscriminately when going into our forward 50. He always lowers his eyes and finds someone. I'd rather him than a lot of others who just bomb it long.

All good and well, but he's lucky to get 2-4 kicks a game.

This is the classic Spargo debate.

He’s on the list, and I dare say has been offered another contract by us, because he can kick. He stands out from most of the rest of our list in that aspect.

But it’s no use to us if he can’t get the ball, and he’s struggled at this for the last few years.

We need to move on from players who hold an AFL quality trait but, regardless, can’t impact at AFL level because their other traits are too sub par. Another example is Sharp - elite endurance/running, but useless because he’s so poor at finding the ball and doing anything with it.

Young Ooze lovely finish!

If people go back and watch Spargo in 2021 his disposal at that time and field kicking was elite and a massive help when it counted.

Said the same about Harmes second efforts but alas he went.

Unfortunately for Spargo his body has just made it impossible to get back to 2021.

A permanent forward who has kicked 1 goal in 10 games this year. Supposedly a wonderful kick inside 50, but he only has 4 goal assists in those 10 games.

I genuinely don't understand what his role is meant to be, but surely he can't be performing it to the level expected.

No doubt he played an important part in 2021 but, like most of his teammates, he has gone significantly backwards since.

The best thing for both player and club would be for him to find a new home at year end, likely as a delisted free agent.

Bump this!

Yep, take the Norf offer and thanks for your service!

And he’s just popped a shoulder, I think, down at Casey 😔

Can’t believe he played 10 games in 25. I barely noticed him. Given, he has come back from a serious injury. Still young enough to capture his best form. I hope he does it here and not elsewhere.

No one gets the ball on the forward flank for Melbourne tho. Not unless they’re the extra mid up at the stoppage or at the drop of the ball around a pack after a long bomb. He’s consistently wide open for the extra 2 kicks he need a quarter and ignored.

There’s issues with Spargo’s game, his lack of burst means he’s often caught running in circles these days and often tries to do too much. And similarly even if he’s a really smart pressure player who gets to the right spots he doesn’t nail enough tackles.

And it shouldn’t stop him getting a contract offer but needing to rehab a shoulder over summer is far from ideal.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
