Jacko walked and Grundy walked

Not one Casey ruckman has been given a run this year, except for AJ (who ain't a ruckman)

I'll just leave this here

Jackson is playing alongside Darcy playing pure mid as much as ruck. There was never any mention of him wanting to be a permanent ruck.

Grundy and Gawn didn’t work but they’re both top notch pure number 1 rucks. No team plays 2 genuine rucks in their best side.

Max didn’t tell them to choose Fullarton. Nor is it his fault we haven’t got a high 190’s forward/ruck on the list.

I also don’t know where JVR is expected to thrive if he’s not rucking? He ain’t much good as a forward, the ruck time is good for him.

I just think he has stifled/circumvented a 2nd ruck option - moving forward....

What's wrong with that?

You said he’s selfish! How can you call Max Gawn selfish for carrying this club on his shoulders for the last 4 years is beyond me. Insulting to a champion who has won more games for this club than anyone else this decade.

He worked beautifully with Jackson and never once suffocated his progress. In fact go ask Jackson how much he learnt from Max. Sure as hell more than he learns from Darcy!

If Verrell showed real promise he’d get a game as a second ruck and JVR wouldn’t ruck and/or play.

Gawn isn’t the problem, the lack of quality young rucks on the list are.

I’m curious as to what fans think about TC. Do people wonder why we got him as a backup for Max only to never use him? Because it’s definitely worth questioning.

Clearly you do. You wouldn’t post on here otherwise, right?

I mean, there’s a difference between posting in a forum, to caring about two teams playing for picks…

I find it interesting what’s happening with the team (re movement and picks) and also other supporters opinions. That’s why I’m here.

IMO we got him as a cover for Max, in case Max is injured, and NOT as a complementary second ruck. TC has said as much.

The thinking was that if we lose Max, we wouldn’t want to throw an underdeveloped Verrell or a second ruck in JVR into a full time ruck role.

TC is a big body with experience, but he’s at the end of his career and this is his 4th club. He's insurance and I don’t think he feels hard done by that. I’m sure we made it very clear that he’s getting another AFL lifeline for this exact reason.

This is vastly different to what I assume Fullarton is feeling, who I am sure we hoped would be a backup ruck/ forward option, and who we recruited from Brisbane for this reason. He just hasn’t shown much at Casey or at AFL level to command a game ahead of Roo.

Gosh

He hasn't let anyone in - that's my belief and stance

I have concerns

Why doesn't he have a say in recruiting as a leader?

I’ve loved this game my whole life, but what the AFL is becoming is hard to watch. Players are being punished for playing the game the right way with eyes only for the ball, and it’s turning passionate fans like us away. The game I grew up with respected fairness, physicality, and footy instincts. Now it feels like a lottery decided bye the media in a tribunal room. It’s not just frustrating, it’s heartbreaking.

Yes

I watched last night on one screen as a friend hsd the Union game on. Mever tbought id say it but it was a toss up for entertainment

He hasn’t let anyone in? So he didn’t let Jackson in? He didn’t let Grundy in (actively participated in the pitch to get him across), who cracked the sads when he was told he had to spend time forward of centre?

Please tell me who he’s stopped from playing in the ruck…did you know that he has helped turn JVR into the most effective second ruck in the game stats wise?

Gawn is a player not a recruiter. God help us if we let players make recruiting and drafting decisions. This is AFL it’s not little league.

Now if you’re saying that no established ruckman wants to come play for us because they know they won’t get a game ahead of Gawn, that’s a different argument, but it’s still got nothing to do with Gawn being selfish. Or do you expect a 7 time AA and club captain to tank his own performance to give someone else a go?

Gawn is the premier ruckman of this competition. He doesn’t play second fiddle because he doesn’t need to, and the ruck is literally the least of our problems right now.

The last time our recruiters took on recruiting advice from Gawn, he got us Lachie Fillapovic.

Let Max just play football and recruiters focus on recruiting eh?

Can you see a transition plan in place?

that May goes to the tribal for that but the clearly compromised MRO had to be overruled to get Maynard to the tribunal tells you everything you need to know about the AFL

I’m done

No more memberships no more gate receipts no Kayo

Nobody will ever replace Max. The plan is to do what 15 or so teams do and play with a good competitive ruckman post Max who doesn’t do what Max does but still helps the midfield get the ball.

We have Kalani in the wings and we will undoubtedly keep trying to pluck a competitive young ruckman via the draft or in a trade.

Generational ruckman are rare and they aren’t really needed to win a flag. Many teams have won flags with good ordinary combative beasts in the ruck. They’re a dime a dozen.

Out: May, Tholstrup, Lindsay (rest), Sharp

In: Petty, Sparrow, Billings, Laurie/spargo

Petty to replace May in the backline. Don't think Adams is quite ready yet.

For the third week I'll say that Tholstrup needs to be played at Casey. Second week recently where he's been subbed early in the third after having not much impact. Give him the rest of the year at Casey in the guts.

Sparrow is clearly seen as best 22 by the footy department and will come in fitness pending his concussion.

Billings has been in hot form at Casey and if we're serious about winning games then he plays over Sharp.

Laurie and Spargo both played well at Casey. Laurie's cards seemed to have been stamped so we'll probably see Spargo return.

Johnson for Jefferson no doubt to be discusses at match committee but hope Jefferson gets another crack at it.

I still think he can do more to develop another ruckman

Outs. Windsor. Sharp. Kolt. May. Jvr.

In. Howes. Laurie. Kentfield. Adams. AJ

You have 4 free weeks here to actually try something different. There is absolutely nothing at stake.

The players above dropped on form will get their chance again and most likely play round 1 2026, but not one of them have cut the mustard this year. Theyve all had 10 games plus and have been bottom 6 players iin the majority of them.

If you dont pick those new kids now who have all had a run of decent games at casey, you almost never will. You dont get many chances like this. And if the kids don't contribute, well its not a lot of difference to right now is it?

Selfish - and I'm dead serious

JVR needs to stay in forward 50 arc

Jumbo, usually like your work but this is crazy.

Like saying Neitz stifled other key forwards coming through. Ruck is a specific role and he is one of the best ever.

Tell me, how could he have groomed a young ruck in 2018 to come through the ranks?

Id drop Viney Salem and others before Jefferson. To tbink he is part of the problem is abdurd.

are you aware Salem has been in the best the last couple of weeks?

450m gained each week

with high kicking efficiency - unlike the rest of the team

Yea thats fair enough. He's playing well. But Im really not focussed on the win this week. We simply have to try something different and look at players we havent seen before. Even if one of them hits the mark, its a big win in the long run. As i said, you almost never get a chance like this (not as a result of injury and players coming in with form and confidence)

Don't expect us to win anymore matches this season. For those who have been long term supporters it is back to the past for us. We promise to deliver [censored] and that's what we will get.

We should drop players under the guise of being managed so as not to hurt anyone's feeling besides we don't want senior to disadvantage the Casey team.

End of year we give Petracca to Collingwood for a 3rd rounder and Oliver for a 4th rounder. We be able to watch many Pies v Cats Grand Finals.

you have an apt name

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
