Absolutely.

We got lucky that everyone played above themselves in that magical run at the back of ‘21.

The players asking for less contact hours should have been warning enough, the best are always working on themselves, 24/7 - which includes sleep/recovery, I’m not saying they need to be at the club that permanently

Sorry I’m so late to this conversation but I’ve heard nothing about the players asking to reduce their contact hours. Have I been that distracted by how bad we are that I missed it? When did that happen

Apparently part of the review process

Was player feedback for over the offseason.

Looks to have worked a treat 🤦‍♂️

What do we mean by contact hours? Training? Or literally can’t be contacted unless during a set time?

I'd shake it up NOW... but by now I would be referring to the instigating of change.

The first would be putting everyone on notice. A mini review. Not the waste of time review earlier. ( that's had wonderful results )... no, a better than cursory look at who's doing sfa to benefit the playing group. You'd run your eyes across the F.D. across coaching .. across the lot.

Who's essential, who's not. Who's f'ing up who's not.

Start negotiating with Simon. Everything IS negotiable. If you think it's not.... you've not negotiated 😉

Start short list of coaches available... up and comers, seasoned etc. Look to get fresh eyes , fresh ideas.. An aspirant together with experience mentor for mine is the ideal.

F off all the FD cloggers.

Inform the List Managers to sharpen their quills... we getting seriously jiggy jiggy ar the trade table.

In conjunction with that get better understanding of who can go, who stays.. contract exposures etc etc.

Time to prune the Rose bush.... lest it dies.

The first step is admitting there's a problem.

Currently we don't

I'd also address the playing group. Inform them the current state of play is not good enough. There will be change , there will be improvements. They would be told they are either part of the solution...or part of the problem. Everyone needs to understand the status quo will change.

Get on board or get out the way.

Great action Plan Exactly who is going to drive it

Self interested introspective board members acting president Acting CEO who has zero football business experience

One thing that resonated with me is the incredible situation where we ignore the facts that we have serious problems. Smith and Guerra are insane to come on board if they continue to listen to the BS coming out of the club and don't accept reality

Who is going to drive it .... indeed 🤷‍♂️

No one currently has the moxy. Few seem to understand/admit the problem. No one seeing the Elephants and no one's feeling the urgency.

I don't mind in a fashion that the CEO has no footy resume. That might actually work in our favour as he can possibly work outside of the 'accepted' norms of the industry. No need to worry about " oh you can't do that, that's not how it's done " .

It's a business. The problem is it's run as a Club, nudge nudge, wink wink 😉

Yep. No point in waiting. We have all seen what is presently on offer

It does dismay me somewhat that apparently Guerra has backed Goody for 26.

The greater likelihood is that Simon will maintain the reigns for the time being but it would have done the incoming CEO no harm than to have stfu on such matters til at least he's been here 5 mins.

I may have missed it, but who and when was it stated that Goody will be coaching us next year?

It hasn't.

The equation:

He's contracted through 26

Currently no one in position to actually do a thing about it. Current President won't. The incoming CEO has backed Goody for 26 ( apparently ) .

Even if Smith was of a mind... be too late .

So I don't see what machination can occur that will oust him ( just yet)

Goody survives become were a useless bloody joke of a club.

What an indictment.

I don't agree that we are a "useless bloody joke of a club" Beelz. We are all frustrated because the players, through their inept performances, are letting this Club, and our great supporters, down. Sure, the coach has to take some of the responsibility for that. What is so frustrating is that we have shown this year that we can match it with any side when we want to. Unfortunately, we have also shown that we can lose to any of the other 17 clubs if we are not switched on. All that aside, where has the incoming CEO backed Goody for '26? That was what i was after. I highly doubt that any CEO, before they have even officially started, would make that sort of comment. I think that is all D'Land BS. I do however recall someone saying that Goody was the man for '25 - cannot recall who that was though. As i said in another thread, I'm sure there is plenty going on behind the scenes that we are not, rightfully, privy too. The time for in-house action, i believe, is at the end of the season, not now. Who's to say we are not already doing research on any number of Club positions and possible players as we speak?

Or maybe he will survive because we honour contracts and might not want to waste say $800k or more of members money by sacking him..

Or because we believe it’s a better culture maker and more chance of managers trusting us if we honour contracts:

Or because the players want him to stay.

Or because while not having a great year, we have changed our game plan and are not getting thrashed, even by the top sides since the change.

Or because we have understood that he is not the one missing easy shots for goal, that has cost us many games.

Or because we have decided that with some better help he could still get us to finals.

Or because we have decided that our recruiting hasn’t been as good as it could have been.

Or many other reasons that don’t lead to the conclusion that we are a “ useless bloody joke of a club “.

another two bit apologist and excuse maker

NfP management at its best! Why would you do that ahhhhh I know its the board members who needs cover so they can say when it goes pear shaped next year " It was the CEOs fault" Guerra better learn quickly what he is dealing with here Bunch of self interested blockers in my view!

Red... i do respect your views, your passion and i give a wink to your background. I know you're a reasoned person a dyed in the wool Dee.

I'd have no intention of not honouring his contract. I'd simply pay him off in a negotiated settlement. Thats honourable is it not.

I'd dispute its a waste of money as I rate TIME ahead of coin. The usable time we have with players is far more constrained than $$ Thats my opinion granted. I'd rather 'waste' money than talent.

Culture is an interesting direction. I see us currently as impotent. The culture is that of accepting mediocrity as the norm. What exactly is the MFC when it fronts TWO CEOs to a Meeting. Seriously if that's not a joke then nothing is. Thats amateur hour whether you like it or not.

I could give a rats whether players like him, want him or otherwise. His job is the Senior Coach. That's akin to a parent. Not their best bud !! All have a 'role' at a club. It's not supposed to be a 'good times social' as it ought to be a professional sports outfit who ALL adhere to a high echelon of standards ( and outputs )

Deals work both ways and contracts are such deals. When you fail to live up to what's required you are going to be replaced.

Change in and of itself is not sufficient. Changing one stuffed tyre for another doesn't really accomplish much other than allowing you to say, well, 'i changed the tyre' !!

Not all agree and I'm ok with that, but the results on the field ultimately reflect those in charge and most poignantly the one in charge of the others in charge ( so to speak )

If you're missing goals then someone needs to address techniques , skills and mindsets. All roads lead back to the HC .. can be no one else

Game Style... that's the Coach.

Abilities to carry out game plans .... initially assistants but what exactly is the HC doing if not overseeing them ?

Selection. No one is EVER going to convince me the HC doesn't have the last word. Everyone else provides input... not decision.

There is substance to the idea that better help might benefit. I think it's way past this. The deckchairs have been mucked around with considerably and a number of issues have presented. We don't have the best assistants and Goodwin is very slow to change. Worse still seems ineffective in getting change to work.

This brings me back to Time. We don't have infinite time. We need to do things not only better than WE do currently but better than our competitors. In the vernacular were just playing catch-up-footy. ... but we're not. We're falling further and further behind.

If we are to talk of honouring things. How about we honour the pact with those who barrack and support the MFC ? How about we do the very level best for them/us.

Simon is but a cog in a machine. That cog is worn and slipping. You're not doing any favours to the ones who are owed the greatest by not fixing the problem. Sometimes problems cost money. Not a waste if you can get the machine working properly again I would think.

For the best part of two years. I would add that one of Petracca / Carrie has to go. We need the salary space to get a good KPF. Both are shadows of their 2021 form. That probably means Petracca goes as he has the best trade value. In 2024/ 2025 form Clarrie is worth little. Other clubs would only take him as a gift and we would end up paying a large part of his salary. Fortune favours the brave!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
