It’s a bit warmer here today… 7 degrees!

Charles not playing this week

AMW and Shane and AJ are working with a trainer: light drills. Kick to kick analyst handballs.

Luker is delighted to have been offered another year.

Ch. 10 reporter promised me he’d get footage of Luker but methinks he was just humouring me. 😅

Ch. 9 also here. Just the cameraman, no reporter as yet. Maybe it’s Tom Morris and he’s hiding behind a tree because the others have told him what I’ve said about him. 😂

No absentees today. All of both squads are here.

AJ is healing well from surgery a week ago. He’s actually here doing leg stretching type exercises and the physio says while he’s three or four weeks away, he’ll be running on Saturday.

Sesto is running at pace. No signs of any issues with the hammy. Said he’s been told he’s looking at three weeks and this pleases him greatly.

The anti-soccer ball brigade (especially you, PF): no soccer balls today. No soccer balls because this is a MAIN TRAINING session, it’s not a CAPTAIN’S RUN, nor is it a a FLUSH/RECOVERY run.

Anyways, full match sim right now.

That reminds me. The session last Sunday seemed to be very similar to one of those flush/recovery runs we have. Was there some sort of heavy, bye round activity they were recovering from?

There was no group session on the bye round weekend; they had a six-day break from Monday to Saturday during which they had individual training schedules to complete.

Missed that news - what did AJ do to himself Ghosty?

Did an ankle during the break. Surgery last weekend.

According to the AFL website, he had ankle pain all season and used the time afforded by his enforced layoff to have the necessary surgery.

Are you off to the GC this weekend Gw?

I know he is hardly AFL standard but I like the way he goes about playing. It would be a great story if he could get back into the senior level and kick a few goals before seasons end. Sadly I think we have to play Jefferson a lot over the next 2 months. If we are going anywhere in 2026 we need him to be a senior level player. 2025 finals are over for us. Let's play a few like Jefferson and Verral. It's time.

Interesting.

Thank you

Thanks as ever Ghosty!!! You do a great job of obsess-supporting for all of us mere mortals

Just a few points from this morning's session:

  1. Turner trained with the backs and Petty with the forwards so I expect that's where they'll play this week.

  2. May was doing some marking craft work with Jeffo after the main structured session based on positioning and body work while the ball was in the air.

  3. Viney was doing some ball work with one of the trainers. He still had a glove on his left hand and didn't do a left hand handball at all during that exercise.

  4. Max was doing a lot of around the body goal kicking with Choco and he seemed to be testing how far out he had to be before he couldn't

    use that technique.

  5. Viney and Kolt seem to have special thing going, lots of wrestling and clowning around.

  6. Ball skills seemed good to me given the ground was quite wet. There were very few fumbles in the full ground drills.

  7. Looking at the set up for the FGD's I think there is a good chance Jeffo plays.

  8. Lots of goal kicking at the end for the forwards and a few others. Melk was off target today.

  9. Chandler was doing a lot of work in a drill where he centred the ball to the top of the goal square rather than go for goal.

  10. Howes and Rivers trained with the backs at one stage with the other likely starters.

  11. The goal kicking was very serious. It's not just grab a ball and have a shot, it's a serious set shot and players clearly unhappy when they missed. It's not just an end of session kick and giggle, they really work on it. It's been the same all season.

I reckon you’re right about Jeffo playing. He’ll come in for Rooey.

I am, OD. Same day fifo.

And same again next Sunday for Adelaide

I hope not Gw, JVR got 2 goals last weekend that is the best by a KPF for some weeks. Two again from JVR and Jefferson this week would see us win this game. The ground should be dry it will suit tall forwards. We need both in the side for the next month min. Winning should run second to establishing if players have a future in 2026 and beyond. Fingers crossed.

Oh to be young!

Another big thanks to Ghostwriter, Startibartfast and all posters and special comments, loved the training and personal reports and in such cold and miserable conditions. Sounds like the boys are fit healthy and energised and I’m looking forward to both games on Saturday. GW you need to be commended, I hope you had a cup of your special coffee from your special vendor. 👍😁❤️💙

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
