@Demonland Why? Why?? Why do we bomb it inside 50 to a pack so so many times… the opposition often marks it (Howe, Wilkie, Ratugolea in the last 3 weeks) or spoil it and we have no crumbing forwards. It’s bombed in high … each time with the same result !! It’s mindless. It’s either the coaches or the players. So after 3 1/2 years, who’s accountable?

@binman Q1. Burgoyne goal 32 min mark Q2. JHF goal 29min mark, Georgiades goal 31 min mark Q3. Rioli goal 31 min mark

do we have any stats on our Junk time goals against? Watching the Dees is a nervous experience as we miss easy goals, but ALSO I get anxious as MFC leak goals each week in the last 2 minutes (sometimes last 10 seconds) of quarters? Sure two were umpire clangers that killed us but it happens as a weekly event Do we switch off… it must be as it’s systemic each week !!

@george_on_the_outer Our goalkicking. I think it’s time for a big rant. The 3rd quarter was a horror show. Six chances. 4 behinds. Petty. Gawn twice. Sparrow (Eishold like miss) and the two from Trac and Clarry snaps from 15 metre out that didn’t make the distance. (Whilst I’m a passive person normally, the swear jar got a few coins added in that 3rd quarter) . Do you have techniques for passionate fellow DLers to keep calm during such times? 🤣😊

Liam Neeson Good Luck GIF

If you google "mark williams kicking skills" you'll find plenty of content..

I used to think Adrian Dodoro was the luckiest survivor in Football.. I think that baton has been passed onto Choc now

Maybe positional changes will help us get the ball into the hands of better users more often - but let's hope the club doesn't let him anywhere near Langford, McVee, Lindsay, Bowey or Turner

The issue comes back to the direction and development by the coaching staff. The wins and focussed efforts against the pies games and other big games paper work our approach in "easier" games.

The focus should now be to hit 2026 running.

The question is how much of the coaching staff do we need to change to get success not he field. If Godwin is given his last year (another review), do we start recruiting now for the best assistants to replace what is not working around him. That includes those above him in the footy department.

In the short term, how do we revitalise the current team structure and players. How can we give other players more responsibility to develop their game and improve the overall team results.

Plus hire a sports psych or kicking coach to fix the biggest issue in the short term. Plus forward craft with players staying down for the crumb's instead of letting opponents waltz out with no pressure as we're all tangled up in the pack. Just 1 player over the back! Just once...

The 50 at the end of the 3rd quarter against Jack Viney enraged me. Yes this was likely bad umpiring but so often I find that this team loves to put themselves in precarious positions late in quarters when the game is in the balance.

30 seconds before this we saw Disco Turner take a great mark on 50 and launch it in, at this point I'm thinking that at very least we'll get one more look at goal, yet Clarry scuffs his snap from close range. The next thing you know, Viney with 3 seconds left, not only gives away a free, but a 50 and a goal. The free looked extremely harsh but why are we not just standing the mark and putting the arms in the air instead of arguing or not giving the ball back quick enough?

What you do in red time counts and the difference between a 9 and 15 point deficit at 3QT matters.

I disagree. Kicking is the most fundamental skill in the game. It's called football, after all.

Max is a champion and an all time great of the club. Nobody could dispute that. Also, he is a wonderful ambassador for the club who is respected almost universally by football followers.

But the raw facts are that he has a serious, match-losing flaw in his game and it is one that can be corrected with application, with a routine and with practice. As captain I believe he has a role in showing to the rest of the list that constant improvement is what the game demands, and no-one is exempt from it. Not even mighty Max.

Get off it, match losing. If his kicking is "match losing" then every player in the AFL is a "match loser" as they dont have the match winning abilities Max has. There are way more easy and basic fundamentals in the game, like handballs, blocking, leading, shepparding. All a lot easier than kicking.

He literally can do it all besides his kicking, which isn't that bad for a ruckman. And this year it has gone backwards a bit. Fact is not a lot of other Rucks get into the positions to impact the scoreboard like Max can, and if they do they dont have anywhere near the impact around the ground.

We don't say Garry Ablett Jrn was a match loser because he was a poor tackler.

Many thanks for another enjoyable and insightful pod guys. As an interstate member, Demonland, and the Podcasts, are my ‘lifeline’ into everything Dee’s!

Enjoy the bye guys ……… you’ve well and truly earned it! ❤️💙

Thanks Andy, George and Binman for another great podcast and also all contributors, a great read and listen. I was still feeling a bit flat about our loss to Port and the fact that we kicked it to Rata 13 times, a player that I have never rated. I enjoyed Binman comments on Kozzy, I felt the same way like a big happy kid when he signed and his electric 1st half was scintillating stuff. So much effort and dominance in the 3rd capped off with such poor kicking.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
