Is it safe to say that McVee took the FC on a ride for 18 months? Speaks volumes who he is as a person imo.

Analysing that chat from Lamb and a few prior musings from the coach and CEO - I think Clarry is a goner for sure and Trac is likely to stay in a 'professional for hire' role.

Always find these statements/interviews interesting.
Are the responses just aimed to media/fans more so than a bargaining tool.
Clearly each respective clubs knows where things stand from the discussions they have with each other. Don't get the public chess game sometimes.

It’s just content for contents sake to fill the media machine.

But also each team manages their trade period like a big chess board and it’s still a time where clubs are evaluating all the pieces.

I’m sure we’re still working on finding a couple of players to bring in, especially looking through the GWS, GC, Freo depth.

If we aren’t getting a quality player out of the Suns (or anywhere else) then I can’t imagine we rush to do that deal. So rather than the usual Melbourne way of doing things quickly we might be dragging this out until the Suns pay the right price.

I don't think he takes these journalists seriously. He couldn't give a stuff about them.

Yeah for an ex copper he sure does know how to fold like a deck of cards when push comes to shove.

Can you name the last big name contracted player we traded out for unders?

Only thing I didn’t like was Lamb offering any kind of apology for Oliver telling Cleary to get stuffed at the airport. Clarry would’ve been well within his rights to headbutt Mitch. Just despicable behaviour to go the airport to stalk someone who just got the sack. Every other journo should be ashamed at their industry.

The vultures trying to make everything in to a cultural issue.

The McVee question, genuinely laughable stuff!

I listened to trade radio with GWS list boss.

Not sure if this has been posted here already but we are not going to trade for Wade Derksen. No reason given.

Edit: old news apparently. Already posted by dazzle in the Derksen thread.

Well let's just with the big chest pumping about Luke Jackson on October 4 2022 hey?

Speaking to AFL.com.au's Callum Twomey and Riley Beveridge on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio on Tuesday, Lamb said it "would be fair to say" they would look to secure more than Fremantle's pick 13 and a future first-round selection, and will look to strike a deal with whichever club can offer the better package.

Obviously, both Freo and West Coast are still exploring their options and we are going to do a deal with whoever comes up with the best deal for us, for Luke to get back to Western Australia," Lamb said.

"Where that stands at the moment is we are just waiting for the best offer from both clubs. We've had initial talks with both of them but it hasn't progressed very far at all.

"We'd love to get as early in the draft as we could this year, understanding that obviously when you deal with a futures market, you can't predetermine where that pick will land. We understand that.

"Luke was a pick three, he's a Rising Star winner, premiership player, he's 21 years old. Whoever gets Luke is getting 12 years of what we would describe as a generational talent so I think we are being fairly reasonable there."

Now let's look at the final trade..

Melbourne gets pick 13, Fremantle's future first round pick and future second round pick (tied to the Dockers) in exchange for Jackson, picks 44 and 67. GWS gets Toby Bedford.

Huffed and puffed at the start then folded in the final hurdle.

Should we discuss the McAdam trade whilst we are at it?

Let's look at recent B&F results across the league:

  • Brodie Grundy 2nd

  • Luke Jackson 3rd

  • James Jordon 3rd

  • Alex-Neal Bullen 5th

They might not all be huge names, but all played in sides that finished well above Melbourne and all were crucial to their teams' performances.

You can add Bedford who finished top 10 in 2024 as well (with Hogan winning). For how many of these players did we receive even close to fair value?

Jackson was out of contract mate. You have no leg to stand on when a guy is not contracted. So can you please again talk to me about a CONTRACTED star player that we traded for unders.

And ffs enough with the McAdams trade. He was a missing piece, and he unfortunately didn't work out. A second round pick is literally a packet of chips these days, when bloody Flanders is getting you pick 7!

Just let it go.

We got Grundy for what we traded him for. Very Little. We lost nothing in that trade, because we paid nothing in that trade.

Jackson was OUT OF GODDAMN CONTRACT

JJ was a bit player who struggled to get a game in our midfield, and was also OOC as was Bedford, who was offered a very good deal by us but chose to leave. Same goes for McVee.

ANB was a trade done in good faith to enable a club champion to get back for pressing family reasons that most on here don't know about

We did not want to lose Jackson, and these long term deals everyone has a sook about, is exactly why we do them, so that we have a leg up in negotiations. If Trac was currently OOC he'd walk and we'd get a compo pick back. How is that a better option?

My gripe with Tim Lamb isnt just narrowed down to trading a contracted player out. You do realise there that being an official list manager of the club right? Clearly not..

He has made dumb list management decisions by bringing genuine list cloggers to giving out ridiculous long term contracts to Jack Viney.

You're delusional if you think he has done a great job of late.

I never said he’s done a great job, but you’re going on about him folding at trades when there is no proof of that.

I can tell you categorically that the Viney and Gawn extensions came from the board in a time when we needed good news and to manage optics. It was not Lamb’s decision alone.

And these list cloggers you speak of cost us genuinely nothing.

When he got May Lever and Langdon he was ace, and now he’s not?

And where was the bitchin and moaning when Lamb managed to snag Kosi for 9 years when every man and his dog thought he was gone?!

I love Kossie but extending his deal from 2 more years to 9 years and increasing the pay on his original deal was questionable business. These long term deals are risky IMO - even for great players.

So you’d rather we lost him to Freo.

Ok cool

This is what the market demands. Jesus do people think our club operates in a vacuum?

2 first and a second with some late stuff back is as good as you’ll see for any uncontracted player. More than we paid for Lever for example. How is that folding?

I gave you proof of folding at trades.. Luke Jackson. He was out of contract and talked a big game considering he said Luke was a "generational" talent and would need to be more then just pick 13 and future pick.. at the end he folded and accepted exactly that.

Dont beat your chest demanding more only to then accept the same offer you say ypu wouldnt except?

Where is the proof that it was a board decision?

I specifically asked you about contracted players so don’t change the narrative to suit your endless hatred of our club and then ask me to accept it

And you can believe me or not I couldn’t give a stuff

Jesus why do I bother with you. I should know better.

Enjoy piling [censored] on our club

Go back and read what Tim Lamb wrote on the Jackson trade.

He talked a big game on a "generational talent" about needing more then just pick 13 and a future pick. In the end he accepted exactly what he said he wouldnt accept initially. That's folding.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
