Aussie football is the game, AFL the body supposed to run it but instead try to ruin it

Footy = our game

Soccer obviously

Rugby (both) rename scrum ball

No idea why the American game gets called football when only one player ever kicks it, occasionally

Sorry to correct you but there are two who kick the ball. The punter and guy who kicks for goal.

I stand corrected. Thanks. How many kicks on average in a game?.

I might be able to help you with that.

The kicker place kicks the ball;

To start the game or to resume after half time.

To resume the play and gain best field position after a score, either a touch down or a field goal.

To kick field goals

To kick an extra point after a touch down

On some rare occasions used for an onside kick

Depending on the scores the kicker can be used between 10 and 20 times a game. More if it’s a high scoring game.

The punter is used much less frequently. They punt the ball purely for distance and hang time and its all about best field position.

With more and more Australians filling these jobs the style of kicking is moving towards drop punts rather than a punt. The reverse Aussie spin kick it is described as.

To punt is to give the ball to the opposition so it’s a last resort measure.

Some games the punter is not used. On a day of low scores the punter can be used up to 10 times.

The punter also has the important role of holding the ball after the snap for the kicker when attempting field goals and extra points.

Don’t know why they call it football. My Dad, who was from Scotland, used to ask me the same question about Aussie rules.

He's a gun picked us over 5 clubs. Played footy til he was 16 so he has the skills you watch the next Harris Andrews!

Hopefully, but he is a bit smaller than Andrews.

From watching for some time. The goal kicker would get 5 to 6 max. The punter about the same. It all depends on how tight the game is and a few other distractions. Whatever way you look at it is not many. They don’t get paid as much as a lot of other positions in the team which probably says a lot.

I do laugh when people say only 194, like they’re 200 cm themselves. Not saying you’re meaning it like that but just generally find it a funny comment.

Yep, fair enough. I'm only 185 so still 9sm taller than me. In that context you're spot on, in the context of needing key defencders to combat key forwards who are 200cm less so

The game I watched last night;

Baltimore scored 4 touchdowns (average score) the punter had 9 game involvements

Miami scored 2 field goals (poor score) the kicker had 5 game involvements.

Agree the kickers get paid considerably less but there are laws in place to protect kickers from getting injured and some of them play through to their mid 40's. Whereas the lineman have about an 8 year window because they get bashed up every week.
